The Chair's Weekly Address: A Foundation for Change

by Bzerneleg
24 March 2019

My fellow Legislators,

Today, it is my utmost honour to give you my first official weekly address as Chair of the Assembly.

Since day 1, we have continued to work hard in order to execute necessary reforms to this legislature. The accomplishments that this administration has achieved until now will not be possible without the help and guidance of my wonderful Deputy Chairs: Rebeltopia, Islands of Unity, and Kurnugia.

Together, we have been able to successfully execute the duties reposed in the office of the Chair and bring fresh changes and new initiatives to the Assembly.

Using the Chair's power to declare bills defunct[1] for the first time ever, we broke the legislative gridlock to help bring the first two proposals to be voted on this month, both of which are, in one way or another, regarding the Assembly.

Also, for the first time, I will addressing you in my State of the Assembly speech in two weeks, something that no other Chair had done in the past. It is, of course, an ambitious move but one that I am willing to take.

We are currently taking steps to increase transparency in the Assembly and making it easier for Legislators and our citizens to keep track of what is happening in this legislature. By the establishment of the Assembly Press Gallery, which is where I am making my speech right now, and possibly, the Assembly Calendar, it has never been easier for us to access the Assembly.

No matter how much we have achieved so far, there is still so much more to do and even more that we can achieve together. I hope that you are all ready for this one hell of a roller coaster ride. There may be challenges that, from time to time, will stand in our way, but we will remain united, we will aim high, we will maintain hope, and we will succeed.

We have a long way to go and on behalf of this administration, I am making a pledge that we do our best every single day to bring this Assembly to heights we never previously thought that we would be able to go to.

Thank you and have a good day.

The Chair's Weekly Address: New Faces in the Crew

by Bzerneleg
1 April 2019

My fellow Legislators,

This week, it is unfortunate that we have to say goodbye to some of our very dedicated officials. It is surely a moment when we reflect on their tenure in this region and how their work over the years has brought positive change to the South Pacific.

I am unhappy upon hearing the news of the departure of my two Deputy Chairs: Rebeltopia and Islands of Unity. The former, if approved by the Assembly, will move on to serve as one of our honourable Justices, and the latter has chosen to embark on a new chapter in his NationStates career.

Rebeltopia and Islands of Unity have served us well, and it is my wish, along with so many others', that they both encounter good luck and success in all their future endeavours. With their departure, it leaves Kurnugia as the only current Deputy Chair. The two of us will consider the option of appointing an additional Legislator to become our second Deputy Chair and shall inform you of our decision in the near future.

Deputy Chair Rebeltopia has been nominated to serve in the High Court, along with Awe, who was a Chair of the Assembly. We today received, from the Prime Minister, two judicial nominations of Awe and Rebeltopia to be Associate Justices of the High Court of the South Pacific. Both have been known to be having a long record of public service, which has given them knowledge and experience that a Justice shall have. Over the next few days, or a week, this Assembly will be questioning and examining the two nominees, hoping that at the end of the day, we will be able to thoroughly understand their positions and stances on judicial matters and use that to decide on whether they are the right ones to serve as our Justices.

Last but not least, I will be making my State of the Assembly address live @ Lampshade Bar voice channel at 00:00 (UTC) on April 7, so make sure you're online!

With all being said, thank you very much for today and see you next week.

PRESS RELEASE

Endorsement of Somyrion/Aumeltopia in Local Council Special Election

Prarie
7 April 2019

Dear Citizens of the South Pacific,

This is an important time for our democracy. We have an opportunity to replace a corrupt and unjust politician who represented gameside unfairly, with a new, empowering leader, who all South Pacificans will be proud of.
But there are only one of those nations in the field that I believe will do this.

Somyrion is a dear friend of mine. He was a buddy on the regional message board when I first became a South Pacifican, helping all nations out and being a friendly Local Councillor. He was the best Minister of Military Affairs I have ever seen, creating the Reserve Forces and not forgetting his roots. His term as Minister of Foreign Affairs was vastly successful. He handled the New Pacific Order crisis well and opening many new embassies with potential allies.

Sadly, Somyrion resigned from Legislatorship in the middle of his run for re-election as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Somy cited the fact that he wanted to escape from the drama of TSP politics. I think that's a brave action we can all learn from.

However, we have the option to be guided by Somy's leadership once again. He's running for the open Local Council seat, and I think that he is the best choice for the job.

Somy not only has experience in the Local Council seat, but he knows the modern Regional Message Board. He's the only candidate who has taken a definitive, clear-as-day stance against the inappropriate posts on our beloved Board.

In the face of potential weakness on inappropriate actions from Kerlodia, and in the face of potential divisiveness and unjust moderation from New Haudenosaunee Confederacy, I urge you, citizens, to make the correct choice and elect Somyrion, or Aumeltopia, for Local Council in this beautiful April.

The Chair's Weekly Address: Our Way Forward

by Bzerneleg
22 June 2019

My fellow Legislators,

It has been long since I last made a weekly address to you as your Chair of the Assembly. Despite going through what we perceive as a period of inactivity, you all have strived to gather your energy and devotion in order to revive this Assembly. I take pride in overseeing a body in which its wonderful members are constantly deliberating on the most pressing issues. Now, I would like acknowledge and thank you for all the hard work that you have contributed.

Not so long ago were the Cabinet elections. It serves as a testament to our long-standing democracy that will only get stronger. I want to congratulate once more to the successful candidates who are now in their new office. Those candidates have served our region with honour and distinction and I take pleasure in calling them Prime Minister Nakari, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sandaoguo, Minister of Military Affairs Witchcraft & Sorcery and Minister of Regional Affairs Rebeltopia.

I received earlier today a resignation letter from my Deputy Chair and dear friend Islands of Unity. He was appointed the position of Deputy Minister of Regional Affairs. Islands of Unity has been a longtime member of the Ministry, also having led it himself. I am fully confident that he will do his job well and wish him the best of luck.

Lastly, shortly after this, I will be submitting to the Assembly my new report on a proposal called the "Universal Coding System." It will act as a "wrap-up" to the discussion we've had back in April on reorganizing the Assembly forums. This will be the first of many actions which I seek to take from now until next month, which include a potential ASSEMBLY MEME GALLERY and a more transparent Office of the Chair of the Assembly.

PRESS RELEASE

APPOINTMENT OF DEPUTY CHAIR AND ASSEMBLY ADVISOR

by Amerion
16 July 2019

Esteemed Legislators,

Please be advised that Omega and Kris Kringle have been appointed as Deputy Chair and Assembly Advisor, respectively.

Omega previously served as Chair and has shown considerable interest in the future of this body. His activities elsewhere underscore his tremendous abilities and I am sure he will do his utmost to see to the Assembly's success. In the event of my absence, Omega shall serve as Acting-Chair.

Kris Kringle has held a myriad of postings over some six years and is currently Chief Justice of the High Court, Council on Regional Security member, and an Advisory Councillor in the Ministry of Regional Affairs. His intimate knowledge of the law and its impact on the region will no doubt prove to be invaluable as the Office of the Chair progresses to Stage 2 of the Assembly Renovation Project.

I very much look forward to working with both Legislators.
