[COMMUNICATIONS] New Community Standards
#11

I'm actually going to disagree with Roavin a bit here.

These rules aren't groundbreaking and can pretty much be summed up by "Don't be a dick or a creep."

If someone didn't read the original list for four months — and somehow managed not to f--- it up — it's proves that the rules are pretty much commonsense.

The rules aren't intended to make people question what they are posting and/or to be fearful that they are breaking the rules. The rules are here so that when someone is being a dick or otherwise harassing members, mods and admins can take action without being accused of overstepping bounds.

As such, I don't think its necessary that everyone read the rules, as much as everyone is aware there are rules.

It's mostly common sense, sure, but particularly for newer players the part on IC vs OOC should be relevant, and the part about this place not being political Tindr as well.

Every time you board an airplane, you will receive that explanation on how to operate a seat belt. That's not because most people don't know how to operate one, but because there will occasionally be people that actually don't.

Sure. But, what I want to stymie is a debate over "Are the rules properly displayed? Did we make sure that people read them? That people understood them? Did we have them sign in blood that they would follow them?"

Even the IC/OOC distinction is something that most newbie players wouldn't even understand, let along use a defense.

While I would not go so far as to request a blood oath from new members, I would like to ensure that they have seen the guidelines in a similar respect to how a service provider displays their TOCs — you may not necessarily read it but you are given every opportunity to do so and at the very least you know that one exists and you know where it can be found.

A suggestion: LegComm could add something like "have you read and do you understand the Community Standards"

I'll start implementing all of the changes shortly.
