A Totally True History of the Local Council
#1

The South Pacifican Local Council is a form of local government for the in-game community of the South Pacific, composed of three or more residents of the South Pacific. The Councillors elected to serve are tasked with representing the interests of all players in the region, slaughtering their enemies without mercy or remorse, moderating the Regional Message Board, encouraging activity on the Regional Messaging Board (known colloquially as the RMB), and administrating itself on issues unique to the in-game community.

Established in Section V of The Charter of the South Pacific, the Local Council is entitled to self-administration within its jurisdiction on local issues, up to and including seizing the means of chocolate production, but may not pass laws or regulations that contradict this Charter or constitutional laws. However, this section also protects the right of the Local Council, with the Assembly and Cabinet not allowed to enact any law that is solely related to an issue local to the in-game community.

The modern Local Council can be traced back to the April of 2015, SJS Republic was the first Councillor to ever be elected into such a position. Their dethroning was as swift as their rise to power, their term coming to an end and mere 45 days after their election. The two other Local Councillors at the time, Darkstrait and [Image: ryccia__687206t2.jpg]Ryccia, continued their rule, joined two weeks later by [Image: the_solar_system_scope__486436t2.png]The Solar System Scope, who would go on to cheat the system and serve for over a year using his wicked fox magics. After the dreaded Celery Incident where more than fifty nations were killed, Darkstrait and Ryccia left the Local Council, leaving The Solar System Scope as the sole Councillor for an entire month.

Due to a mismanagement of public funds and a looming economic recession, in addition to the near extinction of the South Pacific's zebra population, two additional Councillors were brought in during the month of August, [Image: imkitopia__395224t2.jpg]Imkitopia and [Image: rikuchar__681881t2.jpg]Rikuchar. However following increasing pressure from religious zealots from the Holy Order of the Llama Imkitopia left their position, which went vacant until January of 2016 when the next elections were held, amid controversy over the SPIT Maker's Union Strike of 2016. From this new election came two new Councillors to join The Solar System Scope, The brotherhood of the sword and, in a twist involving the entire region getting extremely drunk the night before, [Image: curlyhoward__0.jpg]Curlyhoward. The Brotherhood would only last 10 days when they disappeared mysteriously, never to be seen again. Legend has it that if you say their name three times into a mirror and turn off all of the lights, you won't be able to see your reflection.

More Councillors came and went over the next few years, few of any great importance. Many small names, never heard from again, such as [Image: erinor__128957t2.jpg]Erinor and [Image: pencil_sharpeners_2__239832t2.png]Pencil Sharpeners 2, did moderately adequate work, as befitting their station. The Local Council was embroiled in controversy and a fierce debate between fried and grilled chicken before one nation rose up to the task of leading the Council to greatness.[Image: auphelia__716195t2.jpg]Auphelia, anointed the Year of Our Auphelia 2018, won the position as a year old, first time candidate in the first round of the elections. Her vague promises proved to be wildly popular, and along with [Image: midand__938848t2.png]Midand and [Image: havenfell__126415t2.jpg]Havenfell, the latter of whom perfected the art of "ghosting" during her term, would go on to rule with an iron fist. Not the terrible Netflix-Marvel series, but the good kind without freedom.

Eventually she would be ousted by Pencil Sharpeners 2, Si-topia, and The Solar System Scope. Their rule, constantly in peril from alien invasions and a mysterious rash of stabbing across the region, would go on to be known among Gary (he lives down the street) as the worst Local Council ever, sorely lacking an Auphelia to quell the riots with her patented murder techniques. The Delegate at the time was recorded as saying "..." about the term. Truly, a dire condemnation.

More terms would go by, blah blah blah, scandal, corruption, [Image: concrete_slab__938769t2.png]Concrete Slab and [Image: aidenfieeld__330885t2.png]Aidenfieeld vote trading, Concrete Slab being forcibly removed from office, Auphelia single handedly saving the region, Aumeltopia and Volaworand forming an axis of evil to take RP from the people, and what have you. If you've read this far you're the real hero of this region and should be very pleased with yourself. Just know that the Local Council is here for you if you need it and that Auphelia should never be trusted with recording history.
