Independent. Ol’ Mr. Webster defines it as “not subject to control by others - self-governing”. The South Pacific has been independent from foreign control since about this date in 2003. That’s sixteen years. The great LadyRebels was thrust into being the Delegate of this great Game Created Region, and then all but told the ACC - whose main mission was to own as many regions as possible - to pound sand; she would not be flying their flag over TSP.

This week, we have celebrated our sixteen year run as a region not under the control of any other government. Since that day, The South Pacific has been NationStates’ longest tenured democracy. While we have had people come in (and come from within) and attempt to destroy the Coalition, the natives and long-time government officials have quashed any coup d'etat. We, the people of the Coalition, have continued to make democracy flourish. And we will continue to do so. As touched on by every cabinet member this week, the Assembly has now passed the resolution to adopt defending officially. Our military will continue to stand up for other regions whose independence has been subverted.

Each and every person who has contributed to TSP in any way has contributed to TSP’s continued independence. From voting to running Ministries, every citizen helps keep TSP free. It’s not just about the Cabinet, Local Council, CRS, or even the Delegate. While, without one of those, the system could fail, it’s the sum of all the parts that keeps TSP independent.

July 20th is a day for remembrance, but its also a day for great celebration. As this week comes to an end, we should all reflect on what The South Pacific’s independence means to you, and to the region as a whole. But we should also look to the future, and what another sixteen years of an independent The South Pacific will mean in NationStates.

I want to thank Henn for taking the reins on this and making it the great celebration that it is! Without him, this weeks events would not have occurred. Last, and absolutely not least, special thanks goes to LadyRebels, because without her, we wouldn’t be celebrating this week.
