Termination Notice of the TSP-TNI Treaty
23/07/2014

Quote:Having now reviewed the 'Treaty of Peace and Amity' between The Rejected Realms and The South Pacific, The New Inquisition hereby gives the required five days' notice that it is terminating its treaty with The South Pacific.

We believe that alliances should represent meaningful foreign policy relationships formed upon a bedrock of shared political and security objectives. This does not require that the policies of allied regions be aligned (that would be absurd and unduly limiting), but there are fundamental differences beyond which an alliance loses a shred of credibility or value. A principal and long-standing foreign policy objective of The New Inquisition is our war against the Founderless Regions Alliance, which includes The Rejected Realms (which we invaded in February 2012). The status of The Rejected Realms as a game-created region makes no difference whatsoever to us while it remains in the Founderless Regions Alliance.

Accordingly, it would be inappropriate for us to remain allied to The South Pacific now it has made made a mutual defence commitment in a bilateral agreement with The Rejected Realms. A region which signs such an agreement affirming its intention to protect The Rejected Realms (a disreputable region which, aside from its FRA membership, maintains a propaganda machine which regularly slurs imperialism, TNI and our allies, and which has chosen the founder of the UDL for its leader) is in practical terms no ally of TNI. Terminating this alliance simply confirms that a region's foreign policy choices matter and naturally will affect how other regions relate to it.

While this decision has been reached solely as a result of The South Pacific's decision to align with an enemy of The New Inquisition, it would be remiss if we neglected to note that we had previous concerns regarding the conduct of The South Pacific and some of its senior officials. In particular, while serving as Foreign Minister of TSP, Glen-Rhodes has not only criticised TNI publicly but also openly questioned the basis of TNI's alliance with TSP, using it pose aggressive questions to TNI. This conduct has been defended by TSP on the basis that Glen-Rhodes has been speaking in a solely personal capacity, but that is not the standard of behaviour which we would expect of our own Foreign Minister and other allies have responded far more appropriately to similar concerns. Moreover, the blundering approach exhibited by Geomania, as TSP Minister of the Army, in the May 2014 counter-invasion of Liberal Haven, assuming that the UIAF and the FRA were aware of each other's intentions without checking with either beforehand, was very much far from the diplomatic miracle which TSP officials subsequently sought to portray it as. Ultimately, apart from sheer unprofessionalism, both of these cases can be traced to an extent back to a complete lack of clarity in TSP foreign policy, resulting in a forlorn attempt to gain advantages from two opposing and entirely incompatible sides.

The provisions for mutual defence and wider military cooperation, contained in the treaty between The South Pacific and The Rejected Realms, confirm that it is no longer worthwhile for TNI to continue to tolerate this charade. The objectives of TNI will not be served by agreeing to guarantee defensive support to a region which would in turn guarantee support to another region which TNI has declared war on. We were glad to offer TSP support against the threats posed to security by Sedge in 2011 and Milograd in 2013. However, unfortunately the decision of The South Pacific to ally with an enemy of TNI means that an alliance between our regions is no longer remotely credible. In line with the provisions of the TNI-TSP Treaty, termination of this treaty is not to be seen as an act of war or hostility.

Signed,

A very regrettable decision. I suppose Glenn-Rose, aside from an inactive Foreign Ministry, now has this to add to his record as well.

I would say "I told you so" but that would be not only churlish, but redundant. Glen knew this was likely; that was the objective.

No statement from our government on this matter? Very sad leadership we appear to have just re-elected.

The Cabinet is drafting a statement. I would appreciate that you contact us directly instead of jumping to conclusions like that.
