A Brief Message from the Minister of Media

By Farengeto.

Hello everyone! I am Farengeto, the South Pacific's newly elected - and first-ever - Minister of Media. This election was a historic one. The region has granted me the honour of founding a brand-new Cabinet ministry. I'd like to start off the first issue from our ministry with a few quick words.

It has been a rough few years for TSP media. Under the old Ministry of Regional Affairs, our region has long been struggling to keep our publications active. But, as the leader of the new Ministry of Media, I hope to finally change that. Already we have started on a series of new Media projects, the first of which you will all hopefully be seeing before the end of the month.

I was elected on a platform of providing a series of new and diverse South Pacifican media, and it is my goal to be able to share that with you over the next four months. Stay tuned-the best has yet to come!

South Pacific Elects Historic New Cabinet

On October 14th, 2020, the South Pacific officially elected its new regional Cabinet.

The election was a historic one, occurring following a series of Cabinet reforms in September. The reforms saw the former Ministry of Regional Affairs split into three new ministries: the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Engagement, and Ministry of Media. It also saw the Ministry of Military Affairs renamed the Ministry of Defence. The election would see these new ministers elected for the first time.

The Prime Minister election saw a tight race between the incumbent Prime Minister North Prarie, regional veteran Sandaoguo, and Minister of Regional Affairs PenguinPies. After a close three-way race between the candidates, PenguinPies pulled off a win over her opponents in the third round of Instant Runoff Voting.

The races for Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Engagement, and Minister of Defence saw their candidates running unopposed. Omega, USoVietnam, and incumbent Minister Phoenix - respectively - each gained near-unanimous approval in the vote.

The Ministry of Culture race was contested between three relative newcomers to the region: Indusse, Royaltica, and Swifty. Voting turned into a virtual tie between Royaltica and Swifty. The result would be decided only in the third round of Instant Runoff Voting, with candidate Swifty winning the election by a single vote.

Finally, the Minister of Media election saw regional veteran Farengeto face off against former Chair of the Assembly Rabbitz. Despite a strong effort by Rabbitz, Farengeto won a first-round majority in the vote.

The Southern Journal team congratulates the newly elected Cabinet and wishes them well on their upcoming terms!
