New Proktethian Prime-Minister Speech
#1

Viktoria Afroditi, King Iannis III and four royal guards took to the balcony of Anthroupimiloun Palace, the location of the parliament.

King Iannis III raised his staff, and all below went silent. “Good Afternoon, people of the Republic of Proktethia. We are all gathered here today for the announcement of the winning party of the general election. The Honorable Speaker, Viktoria Afroditi, shall now tell the results to you all. Thank you.”

King Iannis stood aside and Viktoria Afroditi took the centre. “Greetings, citizens of our glorious nation! I am sure you are all excited to hear the results of another election. I, Speaker of the House, am hear to tell you of that. It always brings me great pleasure and honour to stand here. Perhaps, one day, you might do so too. With one seat, we have the Fere piso party. With eleven seats, we have the Kanonas party. With fifty seven seats, we have the Syrintikos party. And finally, I am proud to announce, that with 130 seats, is the Anti apomonosi party, which has been fighting for this victory for 57 years, ever since it was founded.“

She stepped back and the King said a brief statement “We now present the new Prime-Minister, her honour, Tatiana Zenovia.”

The Speaker and King both stepped aside, to the left and right respectively - with two guards next to them. Then, Zenovia stepped onto the balcony with two guards.

She spoke. “Dear people of our wonderful land, it gives me great honour to stand on this Balcony that many of large influence on out history have stood on, across the centuries. It was 1952, when our nation surrendered in the great war. We joined that war to gain back all our land from the golden ages of Proktethia. And we were going to do so whatever the cost. The atrocities caused on the nations around us were horrible. But we were distant from our allies, leading us to become helpless in the war. Surrounded by many nations after revenge, we lost. And those nations deserved that victory. By 1953, a treaty for Proktethia was signed (and 10 years later this party was founded). We were stripped of territory down to what we currently have. We became a democracy. We lost our military. We became very isolated beyond trade with other nations. Few have left or come to Proktethia, and even less legally. This is wrong. This is unacceptable. The government should not be the only body who knows what is happening. You should have access to non-Proktethian books, films, websites, music, products, food, and so much more!”

“I know I said it was an honour to stand on this balcony, but it is also a little scary. I have acrophobia, the fear of heights. We shall achieve great heights during my term, and we mustn’t be afraid.”

“It has always been the tradition of a new Monarch, Prime-Minister or Speaker to stand up here. And since 2003, those have been filmed live on television each year. This year, we have allowed the outside world to listen in too. The beginnings of Proktethia’s journey back into the world.

“I look forward to what this term will bring. Thank you.” She made her closing statement.

The crowd broke into cheers, but the King motioned with his staff to stop. Afroditi spoke. “There will be interviews with various officials on Monday.” The King motioned his staff and the people applauded them again. Then the King, Speaker and Prime-Minister went inside, and were followed by the six guards.
