Shameless Reused Biography

Broadly speaking, I am a textualist, I believe in strict interpretation of the written law. Power resides in the Assembly - the Judiciary serves to interpret the law plainly and adjudicate.

In the past I have served as Minister of Justice for three terms in The South Pacific. I have served once again as Associate Justice this past term - it's been good to be back.

The best qualities a justice can have are independent thought, a keen mind, open ears, good sense and better judgement.

As justice I would be active, serviceable, fair and pursue jurisprudence above all else.

Quote:COI

Currently a citizen in The South Pacific, The Rejected Realms and The Pacific. Delegate in The Rejected Realms. Chief of Recruitment in The Pacific. Guardian of the UDL.

Formerly a citizen of The North Pacific, The East Pacific, Balder, Osiris, Europeia and the Eastern Islands of Dharma.

Formerly Chief of the Band (UDL), Former TRR Media Officer, Former TRR Mobilization Officer, Former Minister of Justice (TSP), Former WA Minister (TNP), Former University Chancellor (TEP), Former Arch-Chancellor (FRA), Former Delegate (Balder).
Can I put a question to you - as someone who has just taken on the rather a big job as Delegate in TRR, why do you want this role?

Secondly, although you claim you would be active, I imagine that you'll spend most of your time in TRR, would it not be better to have a justice that was more firmly located in TSP, and if you do not agree with that analysis, why not?
I actively keep my eye on The South Pacific's forum when I'm not off at work. I'm active enough. I don't think TSP should want someone who is deeply active in TSP's politics as justice anyways. A Justice has to be impartial.

As for why I want the role, I want to contribute and give back to The South Pacific and it's an area where I have quite a bit of fun with adjudicating and trying to interpret the law reasonably.
Why do you think textualism is most appropriate in the region, despite the fact that we are all amateur legislators?
i have just gained citizenship and would like to know what you will do to help first time citizens

Because that's how amateur legislators get better. I've never liked legal interpretations that try to judge intentions or expand upon laws more than written - they often do an incredibly poor job, if not commit judicial activism.

As you find yourself more comfortable with our laws, you will find that not all of them are particularly clear. Some of them even require difficult legal questions - as a justice, answering those questions is part of our job.

Welcome to TSP, nairb!
By the way, it goes without saying, but this thread serves as my CoI for this round once more.
