I won’t lie to you and sugar-coat what you can expect from me. If I am elected, I will be annoying. The ping button shall rest neatly on my desk and I shall be most liberal in my use of it. There will no doubt be instances during my tenure when you wish I was not the Chair. But if I have to earn your scorn by kicking your unproductive, ungrateful, and unwashed ass from here to Maxtopia, then that is what I shall do.

Legislator Checks

While the Legislator Committee Act does not require the Chair to maintain a legislator roster, I am in favour of doing so.

And may I say:

It. Shall. Be. Glorious! — Up-to-date, accurate, pretty, and everything in-between. If Beyonce was a spreadsheet, she’d look like my spreadsheet.

Game-side

I appreciate the mention notifications from Roavin’s dispatches during his time as Chair and I will continue this practice.

With regards to the ever necessary evil of recruitment. I’ve yet to decide the best way to implement this but my general idea is a Jehovah's Witnesses’ approach — something along the lines of 'Excuse me Supreme Ruler, do you have time to talk about our regional legislature and bureaucratic monolith, The South Pacific’s Assembly?'

Legal Codex

Although our laws are currently spread across a great many number of threads, there is a benefit in amalgamating the general details into a one-stop-shop.

It will not, of course, have any legal force but it would be a useful resource for all new legislators. And it goes without saying but it will be blindingly beautiful, as all good things should be.

Standing Committees

I believe there to be a general consensus that while our present laws are, in a majority of cases, adequate, they nevertheless would benefit from a thorough examination with the possibility for revision.

As such, it shall be my focus throughout the term to establish certain Standing Committees. These committees will specialise in a specific area of our laws where they will examine what is currently on our books and make recommendations accordingly.

A final note

As I am neither a prophet nor a particularly fortunate individual, I cannot, in good conscience, guarantee you that all the plans detailed in this campaign will come to fruition. No doubt some will but it is possible, if not likely, that most will require amending to some degree in order to reflect shifting priorities, circumstances of the day, or any number of unforeseeable events.
Full disclosure, the dispatch thing was Nakari's idea, I stole it from her. Tounge

Any plans to appoint deputies? If so, how do you plan on working with them?

Kudos to Nakari Angel

Deputies? You mean Servants of Sauron? Tounge

Should Standing Committees become a successful venture, I imagine that the 'Chairperson' (standby for a more appropriate name) of each Committee would be deputised to, at the very least, provide them with some authority as they go about their business.

In any case, depending on how much work there is to be done, the number of deputies will be appointed accordingly and the process would function in a similar fashion to the Advisory Council.
Could you elaborate with your proposal for standing committees?

Sure!

I think it best to begin with a pilot program -- starting with one area -- to establish whether it is a viable and beneficial initiative. The first potential area which comes to mind is security. Ideally, I would like to see all members of the CRS serve on this Committee and provide testimony as to what they see are the flaws of the organisation. While I understand and appreciate that the Assembly and the CRS are two separate institutions, I think recent discussions have shown that the processes can be better refined and to do so, continued dialogue is paramount.

In saying that, on matters such as this, it would be inappropriate for the proceedings to be as readily accessible to non-legislators as our normal affairs currently are. It is advisable for it to be cordoned off into a separate legislator-only area.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

*Calms self down*

Okay, let me start by congratulating you on your step up to running for office. You have done a lot of fantastic and consistent work here in TSP over the last while and it is awesome to see you stepping into an official leadership role.

I have a few questions for you so here we go:

1: You do a lot of work already with the weekly press updates and activity on all of TSP's channels. Are you confident you can maintain activity in these areas and be a reliable chair? IF not what do you intend to pull out of in order to make room for these new responsibilities. If so, how do you plan to juggle all of this work? :o

2: As far as pings go, do you plan to exercise a balance between being active and being annoying? Or will you be full tilt daily pings for everyone around?

3: After the Assassination of Stewie, your government has been a bit chaotic. Is there anyone coming up in the ranks of your Nations administration that can replace the legend?

Activity and general engagement in Discord will continue as it is. It is beneficial for the Chair to be aware of everything that is being discussed so I don't see myself stepping away from that.

The Drama Llama Herald is a more complicated matter. While I would like to continue to write articles for the publication, I don't think I will be able to maintain the appearance of independence. The Herald will occasionally require dishing out harsh criticism of individuals and that is hard to do when you are trying to shepherd people to partake in Assembly business. I think the most logical path forward would be to take a break from the Herald. I am happy for another person to take it over, writing articles and such, while I simply provide the graphics work.

The Weekly Digest is something which I think can be folded into the Office of the Chair. The Chair can and should provide weekly updates on everything currently on the floor of the Assembly, and that is what I intend to do.

It would depend on how much business is before the Assembly. Say there is a sudden surge in bills being presented for debate over a sustained period of time, then it is indeed possible that legislators would receive daily pings.

As it stands, this is my current structure for notifications:

Legislators will receive a Discord ping when:
  • a bill is presented to the Assembly:
  • a bill goes to a vote: and
  • the result of the vote has been finalised.
I suspect that while many of us check in with the forum on a daily basis, we all use Discord as our primary mode of communication. As such, it stands to reason that you would be more likely to both debate, vote, and be aware of the final result, if you are pinged.

However, I also understand that there may be some legislators who do not use Discord and who are primarily onsite. To cater for this cohort, all legislators will also be pinged through a dispatch mention for every announcement which warrants a Discord ping.

Legislators should also expect to be pinged periodically to upvote all the official TSP dispatches (once or twice a month) and to fill out a bi-monthly survey conducted by the Chair to gain insights on a variety of issues.

There is no doubt that the number of pings legislators receive will increase should I be elected but I would rather you hate me for the pings and be involved with Assembly business than the opposite.

Firstly, it is Admiral General Griffin to you. No one calls the Admiral General by his first name. No. One.

Secondly, his Majesty was only temporarily removed from office by a rogue element within his inner circle. These traitors have since been temporarily relieved of living and aren't expected to make a return for quite a while.

I'm not sure I can condone a campaign that might result in a break from the DLH, but I'm liking everything else, so far.
Thanks! Happywide
