Not Weird, But A Bit Long Wrote:The Republic of Notharia
4 days ago
Greetings and Salutations to Thee.
We are the Republic of Notharia.
A peaceful and progressive nation who have until this point enjoyed the blissful quiet and solitude that is to be found in the south pacific and it is our hope that such will remain so. We are able, willing and happy to live in harmony with all who are willing to extend to us their hand in the spirit if co-operation and of course mutual benefit.
We have little interest in involving ourselves in political machinations or personal powerplays of those from without but will if called upon by the legitimate authority to act as our creed doth allow as is necessary to maintain the status quo, so long as that path leads us through to the same garden that we currently inhabit.
We enjoy a lively, robust and passionate debate as much as the next person, and more so than most, either as participant or as a spectator and will happily enter the breach on almost any subject but we expect that the basics of civilised and considerate behaviour to be maintained at all times.
Admittedly, being a junior member, a relative newcomer, we have not participated in local events as fully as we might have in this world and would not wish to impose ourselves upon those who clearly feel they have better things to do than pay any attention to those may simply be "passing through" aside from when they would canvass us to simply lure us from current region so as to join their "power block"... The only spam we appreciate comes in a can and when properly prepared is good to add to a chesse, chive and full egg omellete.
speaking of which... it is now time for our breakfast and we seek yet another cup of filtered coffee and more fresh sour-dough vienna toast.. with hot melted butter..Hmmmm;-) .. so we shall bid thee adieu and bon apetite! and wish good luck with thy efforts on our behalf. Thy efforts to maintain this happy oasis is appreciated but in matters as thou hast broached we feel we can add little of worth. so we shall hold our silence.
Our respects unto thee and thine.
from the eternal grey eminence that moves behind this visage
That is Nothus Deus Vagus.

No need to get rude. If I'm right your job is to sever all who live in TSP. If I ask a question it's your duty to replay, and you have not answer my question.
I would also say that you sued to friendly and kind to me and all others in TSP. As I may have the vote whever or not you are in power or if you become a citizen once again.

re: Distortilla´s latest outrage about your/our politics
to be honest, I looked at the link which he posted but the whole thing didnt tell me much; ist too confusing without further informations. so before I say anything that might come out stupid, I would like to ask you to give me a short, easy overlook over the situation which Disto was ranting over. maybe you can provide me with a version which contains a bit less neo-fascistic/stalinistic propaganda.
best regards,

I sure can.
Recently we passed a treaty with the Rejected Realms, the largest region in NationStates. This treaty opened up the possibility of military and cultural cooperation with them, and also sent a message that we supported each other, given that we both are Game Created Regions and have similar interests in terms of regional security.
Then we have The New Inquisition, a region with which we had a treaty and that is currently at war the Rejected Realms (more about that in the next paragraph). While many people will tell you that the alliance with TNI was very important for our security, the truth is that we didn't really communicate or have a friendly relationship with them. In fact, our last actual contact was after a join military mission, when they came to us to say we couldn't talk with the regional newspaper of the Reiected Realms about TNI. We felt offended that a supposed ally would try to control who we could talk to, and send an official complaint, without response or apologies from TNI.
Now, after we ratified the treaty with TRR, TNI terminated it's treaty with us, arguing that we were being unprofessional during the newspaper incident I meantime and bad allies for signing a treaty with a region they were at war with. You will ask, why are TRR and TNI at war, and why should we even care?
TRR is a defender region, meaning they protect regions from being invaded. TNI is an imperialist region, meaning they mostly invade other regions and use their military forces to increase their power abroad. Obviously, their interests come into conflict there. TNI even briefly couped TRR in early 2012. We are an independent region, meaning we don't really care about those kind of conflicts and believe that we can be allies with both sides, and benefit from a broad set of alliances. In this case, we signed a treaty with the Rejected Realms because we thought that we could actually keep both alliances. TNI thought differently, because of their endless war with TRR.
What Distortilla complains about is that some people think we (the Cabinet) misled the Assembly into approving the Treaty with TRR at the cost of the TNI alliance, supposedly because some people (like our Foreign Minister) wanted TNI gone without actually having to repeal the treaty ourselves. Distortilla also complains at how only the Assembly participated in the treaty debate, instead of the whole region through the RMB. In response those two complaints:
1. Nobody was misled. While we each had our personal opinions about the TNI alliance, we told the Assembly the truth: TRR is a valuable ally, this helped assert our position on the sovereignty of Game Created Regions, and we didn't think TNI would outright terminate our alliance without talking things through first. Some people also say that we will be insecure now that TNI is not our ally, but we have existed as a region for eleven years now, most of it without TNI as an ally, and we have done just fine before they were our allies, so we can do just fine without them.
2. It is simply impractical to run the government on the RMB. Posting is disorganized and you can't restrict who posts, meaning foreigners could move a nation to the region and participate in a debate that should only be held by citizens. That is why we have an offsite forum, so that only the people who actually want to participate get to participate. While people can and should voice their opinions on the RMB, it's just impractical to do actual government stuff there.
I realise this is a bit lengthy and complicated, so if you have any more questions or things I can clarify, feel free to ask. Smile

alright thanks for the quick reply there.
it was indeed a bit more then I would have expected but I think Ive got the necessary things. in short we can say that Distortilla is upset that we lost TNI as an ally and he is angry that the cabinet decided whom to cooperate with; instead of discussing that with all residents in TSP. did I get that right so far?
if that is so far correct, then I wonder what he is thinking about, since it is fully impractical to get a few thousand people to talk about one and the same topic. not lastly since many people wouldnt want to discuss such things, those ppl would rather just not care.
all in all is this no reason for Disto to make such a drama out of it after everything is through; the child has fallen in the well, as the old saying goes. yea well, thanks again for clearifying this for me.

That's basically what he says, yes. Here's his problem: he argues that since the game itself doesn't recognize offsite forums, the Coalition (our government) is only legitimate as long as the people recognize it, and that we shouldn't be using offsite forums anyways. He argues for a fully in game government. There are others, the majority of us active users, who argue that it's a good thing to get the in game region active, but that it's impractical to use the RMB for governance (as you said), and that the government is like a social contract (you can't just not recognize it).
One particular point of contention is that we say that it is relatively easy to participate on the forum, so if someone doesn't participate after bein given the chance, most of the time they just don't want to get involved in those aspects of the game (with some exceptions, sure). Distortilla says it's still not fair, but he doesn't give any logical alternatives. He's like this guy they always distrusts the government just because. Tounge

civilised debate is one thing; insulting the actual government, even though not with direct words, is something fully different. if he at least would give any contructive advise I would say let him have his rants, but not when hes trolling around like that and literally insults everyone who has a different opinion then himself. even under the lights of "free speech" (curious description within a game) That kind of stuff is more then enough a reason to eject him from the region, for the benefit of all of us who want a quiet game without manic ideologists like him.

You are missing the point. Nobody is being hurt and Distortilla is only exercising his right to free speech. I don't agree with what he says, but he has a right to say it. Which is the same right I would expect if I was the one saying things the Delegate disagreed with, or if you were the one saying things others with power disagree with. Free speech isn't mean to protect discussions about the weather, it's meant to protect those who say things that we strongly disagree with. Otherwise it really is an oppressive government, like he says, not a free and open one.

the known and accepted to free speech is when it gets insulting and offending; and there is no doubt that his brainless rant was eaxcatly that; even though he tried to masquerade it by using a snobby language.

Kringalia Wrote:The South Pacific Delegate of Kringalia → Opplandia

That's not true. Free speech was specifically for the things that are offending to us, that are controversial. Otherwise, why is it protected?
I'm not going to suppress Distortilla. That would be illegal, considering the Bill of Rights explicitly protects residents who criticise the government.

You can't sue people who insult you (at least not for calling you a dictator), not in a democracy. People have a right to their opinions, even if that means they have a negative image of you. You don't suppress their speech anyways, what you do as a responsible leader is prove them wrong.
