Let the tiger tige things to 80's rock music | Hobbes&QD 2014

4. Why are you running for Vice Delegate? ('Because Hobbes asked' is not a valid answer!)
Because I asked Hobbes to tun for delegate.
Seriously, two reasons. First, I think Hobbes will make a great delegate and I can assist as being a long time TSP ONLY resident and together we can bring new ideas from the outside while maintaining the nuances of TSP within. I applaud the enthusiasm of the newer generation AND of the old timers coming out for this election, but Hobbes and I are currently the most ACTIVE in the game right now.

5. Do you think you have the necessary diversity of experience to help lead the South Pacific?
As the current Minister of the Army and active member of the assembly, I think I do.

6. How would your style be? Would you just wait for the Delegate to assign you duties, or do you want to be an equal partner and help him coordinate the regional agenda?
I will already have my own responsibilities with approving citizen applications and working with the CSS. Hobbes and I will be very capable of working together, sometimes with him running the show, sometimes with me running the show and sometimes together. I am totally aware that the Delegate is the Face of TSP outside the region and will be sensitive there.

(For both)
7. What do you think of the Fellowship Programme? Should we continue encouraging newcomers, regardless of their citizenship status, to get involved in the region?
Anything that encourages participation should be nurtured. Just like the SPSF, I think the Fellowship Program (I, too, don't live in England) should be open to residents with the belief activity generates citizens, Citizenship doesn't necessarily spawn activity.

8. Results from a recent SJ survey show that the region would favour having non-binding regional polls about Assembly bills being voted on. Do you think it would be positive to implement this?
Absolutely. I would even suggest taking it a step further that the results of the RMB poll become a single binding vote in the assembly. Feelings of inclusion and participation encourages participation growth.

9. What should we do to improve activity in Treasure Island? Should that be even a priority, or should we let it happen by itself?
I think the RP groups do well enough on their own. The ONLY suggestion I would add is to include a column in SPIN with news stories of the active RPs.

10. Glen has been a champion of the GCR Security Network concept throughout his terms as Foreign Minister. What do you think of it? Should we continue having that as our guiding foreign policy objective?
I think that GCRs should all have pacts between them. The issues have always come as TSP having treaties with Regions on both sides of an argument. Adding a simple line that should two treaty-ed allies go at it, TSP reserves the right to remain nuetral.

11. We have a treaty with Balder, and I believe it is our least known treaty. Why do you think that is? How should we address that situation?
It's a simple mutual aid pact, Don't know if we need to address anything at this point.

12. Do you think we should approach more like-minded UCRs, regardless of their size, and establish close relations with them?
Personally a region, both GCR and UCR should be rated by activity, longevity and presence and not endo count. It's all about what do we brig to each other's table and not "Oh, look! They were the same shirts we do"

13. How would you respond to recent criticism that TSP is leaning defender? Do you think that is even true?
As current MoA and knowing 4 of the last 5 missions have been aiding raids, I would point out the critisism is wrong. There has been attempts in the Assembly to go that way, but the SPSF at this point is chartered to serve the region. If the region decides it wants to be defender, then the SPSF must defend the region.

14. Many still have the image of the South Pacific as an unstable and drama-filled region. How should we fight that perception?
We don't listen to it. TSP is fine within the walls of TSP and needs to develop the swag to become the TSP we want it to be and not the TSP we think the others won't be upset at.

15. No Cabinet is perfect. What failing has the current Cabinet had, and how should it have acted instead?
We've had our missteps and mistakes and got though them all. Don't know how to improve that.

16. Describe the South Pacific in one short sentence.
A region where the new player and the veteran player rebuilding themselves have equal chances to be heard and express themselves.

17. There are three (maybe even four) other candidates for Delegate and Vice Delegate. Why should we vote for you?
Because Hobbes and I are both ACTIVE in the game and experienced. We compliment each other's strengths and weaknesses. I applaud the enthusiasm and response from the other candidates but believe this ticket will have less time getting adjusted and we can hit the floor rolling

Oi, I don't live in England, yet I spell it the same way. You mean I'm not British, not I don't live in England.

I will be asking the same question to all candidates, and I would appreciate an honest answer. Anyone that bluffs this question off by trying to be polite will not be getting my vote.

What do you think are the strengths and weaknesses of each of your opposition candidates campaigns?

This question is for both the Delegate and Vice Delegate to answer.

Thanks.

A new GCR is formed. It is a feeder, and you are the only government official available to respond to it. You notice the feeder within the hour and happen to be free all day - you are also aware that most of the rest of the cabinet will not be around for the rest of the day, if not for the next couple of days.

The GCR quickly attracts a small group of roughly organized people who identify themselves, on the RMB, as being from a non-descript non-NS related online community. A couple of representatives find the TSP IRC channel and are available to chat. Their IP addresses, should you check them, are reliable ISPs and unknown to you.

It quickly seems that they have a tenuous grasp on the WAD - they far exceed any endos picked up by any ragtag WA members, but could quickly be dislodged by a concerted effort from almost any GCR or UCR military (say, a half-dozen to a dozen). They have no forum set up, but do have an IRC channel with multiple OPs and a clear OP hierarchy.

You seem to be the only major GCR politician at the time, and no prominent gameplayers are in their IRC channel.

What do you do?

I'm not going into picking apart each of our competitors but I can summarize my feelings rather easily. The strengths of ALL the candidates are their enthusiasm to make TSP a better place. There isn't one candidate that that doesn't have TSP's interests at heart and the desire to make it better. The weakness I see, with the exception of Tsu and Penguin, is the lack of experience in the game itself  and in the case Tsu and Penguin, the lack of visibility of recent activity. Being a Feeder, politics and landscape change almost daily and the wrong message to the wrong person at the right time might cause issues we really don't have to deal with.

As one of the IRC admins of TSP (on daily) and The Minister of the Army, I know where the Military's of NS live on IRC and communicate with most of them. It's would not be hard to start a conversation to deal with it. If no one is on, No one is on. I have Skype connections to some and I'm confident I could get movement by the next update with some of the major players and make it a joint effort.

I also believe that it's not really up to us to go liberate a feeder with no ties and dictate how things are going to be. Simply moving puppets into the region and posting a warning on the RMB might be all that's needed.
There is also no reason to rush into something like this. Armies can get orginized by an update. Forces can be gathered in a day.

Then I do not see myself being capable of earning your vote if you are asking me to, as a candidate, pick apart my other candidates campaign and spit them back out to my benefit. They have flaws, as does mine, but it is not my place and time to tell the citizens of TSP what those flaws are; that is the job of the citizens of TSP, and while the debate will delve into this further, my campaign thread should not be the place for that.

I suppose I have lost your vote over that, but if that is unfortunately needed, then so be it.

Not necessarily, I didn't mind how QD responded for example. Just was more interested in if candidates are willing to analyse an opponents campaign to not just focus on where they are going wrong, as some may have done when asked for an analysis, but to see if the candidate is going to recognise the positives from these campaigns and if they would be willing to consider these ideas. That was the main purpose of my question.

I am undecided who I will vote for still, I think this will be a close election. You still have a few days to convince me, so keep it up. You haven't lost my vote yet, but you haven't won it for sure either.

I get what you are saying, the wording of the question seemed more like a 'we want to know how much you think the other candidates suck'. Apologies.
