Legal Question (interpret the meaning and application of a law) Trial of the 17 gunmen in the University of Qvait, Sydney hostage crisis
#1

After the Qvaitican Domestic Intelligence Agency of Defense and Security (DIADS) found more than sufficient evidence, a trial against the seventeen living gunmen is set to begin.

Spotaltryus and Aquica will provide anything that Qvait may require in the courtroom.

The seventeen gunmen, rather then tried individually, is tried as one party. "On the charges of terrorism, conspiracy, first-degree murder, and murder during a hostage taking, how does the defense plead?" The defense's lawyer said, "Not guilty by reason insanity."

(In the interest of time, we will skip ahead five hours. In this time, the gunmen are examined by clinicians who determine that they do not suffer from any mental disorder or PTSD.)

After the Supreme Court Justices conferred during recess, Chief Justice William Slazenger said, "On the charge of conspiracy, in a 9–0 decision, we find the defendants GUILTY. On the charge of first-degree murder, in a 9–0 decision, we find the defendants GUILTY. On the charge of terrorism, in an 8–1 decision, we find the defendants GUILTY. On the charge of murder during a hostage taking on four counts, in a 6–3 decision, we find the defendants GUILTY. Because murder during a hostage taking is a capital offence, we have decided to sentence the defendants to death. Since this procession is taking place in Sporaltryus, it is the responsibility of Sporaltryus to carry out the death penalty."

Sporaltryus will impose the death penalty upon the gunmen tomorrow. It is up to the Justices on what type of death penalty will be used.

In Qvait, lethal injection is practiced on those condemned with capital punishment. As such, that is how the condemned will be executed.

Sporaltryus and Aquica will conduct the executions tomorrow at noon, at once. A cigarette will be offered beforehand.

Qvait will send observers to witness that the condemned are executed.

We would be glad to have them if it weren't under such circumstances.

These observers will attend to make sure that none of the condemned evade execution.

OOC: I thought that people pled insanity not because they were actually insane, but because circumstances drove them to drastic measures.
Example: Fred comes home to find his wife in bed with the plumber. Fred, very angry, beats the plumber to within an inch of his life. He pleads temporary insanity and as such gets a reduced sentence.
