Let's talk about our host
#241

I guess maybe I could support this if tsu was amenable.

Part of my issue is that when I discussed ZB as a viable option before we moved to this forum many people said that there were major issues with it and shut that option down (from what I remember that it has adspam, is less secure in regards to forum destroyers and how one person could report something and ZB would shut the whole board down) so is that not the case?

The issue falls down to some people here aren't convinced the issue is service.

You have people here who are paid to do this kind of stuff saying that something may be being done wrong, and when we flat out offer to take a look at the problem we are told that the situation is "under control" and the problem is obviously the host. :-/

QuietDad, for instance, hosts six forums on the same server, using the same software none of which are having the same issues.

The issue wouldn't be the x10's hosting service if we were the only ones having this issue. Take a look at the x10 forum and you'll see other people having the same issues we are.

I don't recall saying it was a database error.

My money always has been on (and still is) misconfigured plugins and or addons. This is the most common issue X10 users have to my knowledge (Hell, it's even directly in the x10 "high resource limit" page: "This issue is commonly caused by inefficient plugins or modifications to common software platforms, " - It should be something, but it comes down to that I believe at the core that what is (in comparison) a really small forum causing this to hit its resource limit and break every day/night is really possible without something else at play in the inefficient side. So while moving to G-R's server probably will fix it as your working with bigger hardware, I don't see it fixing the core issue nor the move being necessary

But if it is insisted that I am a big bad person here to steal all of TSP's secretzzz (the fact that you gave all "trial administrators" Cabinet forum access kinds of indicates they're aren't many to hide) then QD can do the same thing.

(04-05-2015, 11:53 AM)Escade Wrote: Hobbes, what record of service do you have in TSP that we should give you access to the servers at all? There's a reason that not everyone is suitable to be administrator or have access to administration level areas. If we needed help at that level, which I doubt we do because the error messages are available to all, then there are a host of people who, even if they are in or outside of TSP, have a better record of being helpful to the region then you do. QD has stated some things he will do and acknowledged I believe that the server we are on is problematic in general.

If I haven't burned a forum made for 13 year olds to freak over crappy music that I have root over, I don't see myself burning TSP.

Or the fact that when I had all opportunity to burn Lazarus with a group of people I weren't exactly friends with at the time - yet let them move off site on their own accord and gave them a copy of the database, should also say that, but I guess you'll take the facts and only accept them when it's convenient to you.

The only reason my question is "politically motivated" is because some people here want it to be. The fact that I'm being told I should prepare for a court case for offering another solution outside of moving or jumping the shark entirely to ZetaBoards is a downright shameful display.

If it isn't obvious I'm not the type of person who would burn a forum when I've been shafted in that way before and haven't done it, then I don't really think you're honestly directing these questions at me. The issue is being overthought; Not every offer indicated is a evil conspiracy to kill TSP in one way or another...

I can't see how Hobbes as Root will solve anything. Lazarus just went through a very dramatic process trying to remove Hobbes as admin and shifting back to ZB. -_-

I honestly haven't the slightest clue how this went from me offering to fix the forum from me wanting to be root - I recall being the one offering to stay on x10.

Though A) The only reason it was "dramatic" was because of the PRL-OFO war at the time, which spun it either which way for both sides benefits, and B) "Just" was 9-10 months ago, and C) I recall working with them and helping them move offsite lol.

Trial Administrators never had access to the real Admin Office or to the Cabinet Office. We faked admin threads and created a Cabinet subforum for recently declassified threads.

Oooooh, alright.

That was surprisingly effective Tounge

Could it be Market Street causing at least some of the issues? Seems they started around the same time from memory. Noticeably worse the last day or two, not sure why for that though.

I posted this on IRC — but here's a solution. http://www.gofundme.com/rh9jzdc

We need $142.20 to pay three years of paid hosting with x10. Nothing would change just that we'd have better service and access. (The other $9 is for GoFundMe's chunk.)

Thoughts?

Why would we pay $150 bucks to a service that's barely registering our complaints currently? They seem like crappy hosts to me.
