W3_Rules, AKA WallaWakkaWalla
#1

Ok, first off, the CoI report. Likely among the shortest out there.
WA Nation: WallaWakkaWalla
Other Nations: None
Aliases: None, unless W3_Rulez counts as an Alias
Past NS involvement: I used to play a long time ago, but I do not believe that even if I could remember anything of back then, that it would have relavence.
Current positions:
Just a regular old TSP citizen and WA Member and occasional talker.

Platform:
Like what both Belschaft and Rebeltopia have said, Priority one is to lay down the procedures by which the Judiciary will run. Without these, and without these codified, you end up with the Assembly and the Delegate running around all willy-nilly and the average TSPer having no recourse. Why am I suited for this task? Because as a debater, I like to run lead, and in the lead spot, often it's part of the job to define the framework for the particular debate, and I also understand how to set things up FAIRLY for all parties involved, even when the other side says I'm being abusive, which I have never been in round, at least when it comes to definitions. This means the process needs to be transparent, easy to understand, and decisive in terms of it's final results, so that way no one can say someone is 'gaming the system' or somehow taking advantage of something inherently wrong with how it's all set up.

Now to deviate from both Belschaft and Rebeltopia. In terms of my Judicial Philosophy, I would argue that you need to be more flexible in both utilizing precedent and the law in making rulings. It is not likely that two completely different sets of judges will see two cases in which the variables are the same, and so to go solely on previous rulings and the law, while admirable and they should always be consulted, should be avoided and the ruling should be, in the end, made based on the facts of the case before the bench. Does this now sound like I'm stabbing myself in the back, saying the procedure needs to be set in stone but to remain fluid in rulings? No, it is not and if you were thinking that it was shows how little faith you have in me. It takes into account that in the end, the Justices are people, and people cannot be rigidly put into cute little labeled boxes. It allows for leeway and extenuating circumstances to be taken into account, which in the end, allows for greater freedom. Does this semi-idealistic view make me a dreamer? Well, here's hoping I'm not the only one. Thank you for your consideration.

You made some good contributions to the Bill of Rights when it was being debated, but then stopped contributing and disappeared. What made you return now and why did you choose the High Court as your first attempt at a government position?
Former Delegate of the South Pacific
Posts outside High Court venues should be taken as those of any other legislator.
I do not participate in the regional server, but I am happy to talk through instant messaging or on the forum.

That is a very fair multi-part question and my hope is to give a satisfactory multi-part answer.

Why did I disappear? Real life decided to show up and it kicked me in the face. I'm still putting Ice on a particularly nasty bruise. I had to step back for a little bit and had to resolve it. Some of it was fun, such as national debate tournaments and becoming an uncle. Other parts of it were not so fun, like dealing with Financial Aid departments and becoming an uncle. I also needed to get focused on my last quarter of Undergrad before trying anything else.

Why now and why the High Court? First, cross-apply the last part of what I said above to here, so I (Think I) missed the April elections window. Also, the timing of the government bug biting me, the opportunity to try something new (In terms of government I tend to drift towards Leg and Exc) and the fact that well, it sounds kind of fun rebuilding an entire branch of government from scratch.

If you do not win this position what are your plans?

Well, while I'd HOPE to win, I do understand I am a longshot. I think the bookies have me at 22-1 right now. But if I don't win, perhaps just shadow various government officials to get a better idea of how it all works, then do all this again. Tounge
