I have sent this letter, and this draft treaty, stating mutual defense, freidnship, and cooperation, along with two of my negotiators, Mr. Arnold Reddicker and Ms. Rita Lane, who will work with you and Ambassador Kretoss so that we may finalize our alliance. I wish you and my ambassadors luck i finalizing this treaty, and I most certainly look forward to our countries' futures together.

Resentine and Darkstrait,

Intending to improve the bonds of peace, prosperity, and friendship between them, and to uphold the principles of peace and rule of law,

Intending to establish and improve economic cooperation between them and promote economic stability and well-being in their countries,

Reaffirming the belief in world peace and security, equal rights, self-determination, and human rights, and the desire to live in peace with all nations,

Recognizing that both nations have the inherent right to individual or collective self-defense,

Considering both nations share a concern for the maintenance of international peace and security in The South Pacific,

Having resolved to establish a treaty, cooperation, and security,

Therefore agree as follows:

Article I

The Parties establish a state of friendship between them, promoting political and social ties between them, and seek to eliminate and political disputes in a manner where peace, security, and justice are not endangered or damaged by either Party.
Article II

The Parties will contribute toward the development of friendly and peaceful international relations through strengthening their free institutions, bringing about a greater understanding of the principles of which these institutions were founded on, and promoting conditions of stability and well-being. They will seek an elimination of conflict in their international economic policies, and encourage economic collaboration between them.

Article III

The Parties establish an open borders between the two them, allowing each Parties' citizens to travel between them unhindered, allowing businesses to trade freely between them, and allowing the economies of both Parties to grow together.

Article IV

The Parties , both individually and in cooperation, through the means of continuous self-help and mutual aid will maintain and develop, subject to each Parties' constitutional provisions, the ability to resist armed attack.

Article V

Should either Party be at war with any nation or group of nations, the other party shall not cooperate with the nation or group of nations against the other party.

Article VI

Should either Party's sovereign territory or citizens be attacked by a nation, the other party is obligated to assist the invaded party in the defense of their territory from foreign invaders.

Article VII

This treaty shall be ratified by Darkstrait and Resentine in accordance with each nations' constitutional process, and will enter into force on the date on which the instruments of ratification thereof have been exchanged by them in Theron.

Article VIII

This treaty shall remain in force for 5 years, after which either Party is to give one month's notice to the other Party of its intention to terminate the treaty, in which case the Treaty shall terminate one year after such notice has been given.


IN WITNESS WHEREOF the undersigned Plenipotentiaries have signed this Treaty.

I have read your draft. The only change I suggest is that the time requirement be replaced with an clause staying that any party wishing to withdraw from the treaty must give a month's notice. This would prevent either party from dropping the treaty and launching an immediate attack.

The changes you have requested will be added, the only questions remaining are the brackets marked on the draft. Or, more simply, would you prefer to send ambassadors to Theron and sign the treaty there or to do it in Skotino Steno yourself, and how long shall this treaty stand before a country before either of our countries are allowed to dissolve it?

I intend to sign this treaty myself. If however you are unable to travel to Skotino Steno, I can make a trip out to Theron, where we can discuss the last minor issues.

Dear Ridcully,

I would be honored if you would join me in Theron to sign this treaty. I will present it to Parliament once we have finalized everything, they will likely debate and vote on it tomorrow. You may take a guest room at the Royal Palace, and we will make arrangements for anyone that may be joining you for the signing, along with any security you may bring with you. The signing of the treaty will most likely be done on Friday, depending on how long it takes for Parliament to debate it. You will arrive at Theron International Airport where My car will take you to the Royal Palace, just like the last time. Let us hope this all goes swiftly.
