Hey all -- It's come to my attention that we're going to be holding a special election for a justice on top of a the regularly scheduled Cabinet election.
As such, I would like amend the Article 3 of the Election Act to one of the following:
Quote:Article 3 - Vacancies
1. In the event that no candidate runs for an available office the newly elected Cabinet will appoint a Citizen to fill the vacancy.
2. Vacancies in office occur when the office holder resigns, is recalled, or no longer holds citizenship. In the event of a vacancy in office a special election will begin within 72 hours of the office becoming vacant, unless the vacancy occurs in the two months prior to the start of the term for the position in question; in this case the Cabinet will appoint a Citizen to fill the vacated position for the remainder of the term.

3. Special elections will not be held concurrently to regularly scheduled elections. If a vacancy opens within that time, a replacement will be appointed by the Cabinet.
Option 1, I feel like I suggested before, but dunno what happened to the idea. It would essentially only have special elections when there's more than half the term.
Option 2, Would essentially just stymie vacancies for justices and the local council.

I still think we need to review the posts that exist and see if there really is justification for having so many that, in real terms, have very little to do
I'm leaning option Two.

I'm liking option two as well.
Regarding option one, two months is a considerable amount of time and deserves an election to fill the position. I'd suggest changing it to thirty days.

That is the status quo.
I support option 1. #2 looks way too vague to me, and doesn't give a specific timeframe.
I would actually propose an option #3: that a special election not be required if a vacancy occurs in the month prior to that position's regular election is held. Currently the law sets the limit at the start of the term.

Option 3 in written form.
#3 is the prime choice.

I don't think we even need to change this. The next term for Justices starts August 15. We are in the calendar month prior to the start of the next term now. IMO, the Cabinet is able to appoint a Justice to fill the rest of this term.
The current law only allows appointments for Cabinet positions, iirc.
