The mountain range in that area isn't that high. Plus current borders were not in effect at that time, the natives from my country were spread along. It's not that hard, current day people make treks that way all the time. If refugees from Ryccia came over that way it wouldn't be hard.

You're right, if Ryccian refuges did come over, it wouldn't be hard, but it is still a mountain range. Would you want to constantly go up some rather treacherous cliff-faces to just make a small profit? It's better to trade with the guy more geographically accessible, in this case, the guys right next to you on your side of the range.
