I think that that is one of the great mysteries of the universe, and perhaps we'll never know until we meet God in person, but until then, there's no reason not to speculate.

RE: Philosophers Corner. - God-Emperor - 05-04-2014

Other than ya know any speculation is almost certainly incorrect.

RE: Philosophers Corner. - Almonaster - 05-04-2014

Hmm, sounds a little speculative to me. Can you back that up?

RE: Philosophers Corner. - God-Emperor - 05-04-2014

Only with speculation.

RE: Philosophers Corner. - The Union of Free Individuals - 05-06-2014

Well, we can reason based off of what we know about the universe, and make assumptions about the reasons behind them.

RE: Philosophers Corner. - God-Emperor - 05-06-2014

But they'll always be just that, assumptions, and I'm guessin' we actually know very li'l 'bout the Universe.

RE: Philosophers Corner. - The Union of Free Individuals - 05-08-2014

Sometimes, the wisest thing to know is that you know nothing. Ultimately, we must rely on faith if we are to believe in the Supernatural. That is after all why we have holy books and religions in the first place, to encourage our faith, and focus on the meaning in a seemingly chaotic universe.

RE: Philosophers Corner. - God-Emperor - 05-08-2014

Interestin' combination of Socrates and religion, but, yes, I agree, more or less.

I would, in all appropriate seriousness, point you fine minded individuals to that old chestnut.
Everything we are and perceive is perceptually filtered, thus how can we be said to know anything?
Just because a majority of people agree on what they assume is the same thing and call it a 'fact', does not make it cosmically anything, except palatable.

I would argue a differing viewpoint on the original need for religion however.

RE: Philosophers Corner. - Belschaft - 05-08-2014

Religion belongs to the infancy of our species. It was our first, worst, attempt at understanding the universe.
