Based on the discussions being made, these are the current issues Scienta would like to see incorporated into this treaty:

  • A recognization of the rights of non-nuclear nations to develop nuclear weapons
  • A cap placed on the number of weapons a nation may possess
  • Nations must announce their status as one of the following options:
    1. Non-nuclear state
    2. Nuclear state
    3. State possessing nuclear weapons under a sharing arrangement
  • A ban on all atmospheric nuclear testing
  • A ban on nuclear weapons being stationed in international territory, with an exemption made for transportation.  Transportation should be done under the supervision of an inspector, and with the route through international territory announced to the other signatories of this treaty.
  • A ban on nuclear weapons being stationed in space, with exemptions made for propulsion.  Rules to be set to guarantee that the devices to be launched into space are meant for propulsion only.

Karnetvor would be in favor of these terms.
We also agree with Sedunn; we accept the use of nuclear weapons only for defensive purposes.

We finally understand nuclear pulse propulsion but is not yet on board with allowing it. Qvait is concerned that this idea could be weaponized in which it will thrust a nuclear weapon towards a target in the South Pacific. In essence, using two nuclear bombs by first using one to thrust it at a target and destroying it with the second bomb. Qvait would also like to bring up to discussion the hypothetical act of kinetic bombardment and whether or not to allow it even if it is not nuclear.

Seeing that the discussion has mostly gone over nuclear weapons, a second round of negotiations will discuss arms reduction.

Sporaltryus and Aquica will agree to:

• The use of nuclear weapons for non-nuclear purposes
• The use of nuclear weapons for nuclear purposes unrelated to the destruction of life, land, or national sovereignty

OOC: Are we then going to discuss arms reduction on another thread? Also, in terms of scope for arms reduction, are we merely talking about arms capable of delivering nuclear weapons, or arms in general?

RE: First Round of Negotiations on an IARNPT - Jay Coop - 05-07-2015

(Yes, there will be another thread, but just not yet. I am talking about arms in general.)

RE: First Round of Negotiations on an IARNPT - Darkstrait - 05-08-2015

Would this treaty also ban or restrict use of ballistic missiles carrying conventional warheads?

RE: First Round of Negotiations on an IARNPT - Jay Coop - 05-08-2015

Darkstrait, the nuclear non-proliferation part of the treaty, which is the discussion in this first round of talks, will not ban or restrict the use of such missiles. However, I cannot say whether or not the second part, arms reduction, will ban or restrict the use of such.

RE: First Round of Negotiations on an IARNPT - Darkstrait - 05-08-2015

Well, to get back to the topic at hand, we can only really support the setting of a cap on nuclear weapons.

And if we take the time to discuss all of these issues separately, these conferences will take a long time.

RE: First Round of Negotiations on an IARNPT - Jay Coop - 05-08-2015

(I have created a thread for arms reduction, but this discussion will continue on this thread.)

RE: First Round of Negotiations on an IARNPT - Farengeto - 05-09-2015

While Farengeto is not currently participating in this, if you are not limiting the spread or production of nuclear weapons this is no longer a non-proliferation treaty.
