Resignation as Prime Minister - HumanSanity - 03-06-2022

Fellow South Pacificans,

It is with clarity of mind and sadness of heart that I announce my resignation as Prime Minister, effective upon the lawful selection of my successor.

When I started this term, I thought I had it in me to serve a full term with distinction, to complete the unfinished work of the previous term, and to continue breathing fresh life into the region.

It turns out, I did not. Between TSP and my previous region, I've been running full steam in playing NS for about 2.5 years now. Being Prime Minister has been an honor and a privilege, but it is only an honor and a privilege because of the care and labor required to do the job well. At some point, I've lost my passion, energy, and drive. I'm exhausted.

Combined with shifting priorities and responsibilities in my real life, being Prime Minister is just not a part of the set of things that are best for me right now. I could continue going through the motions of the term, but I don't think that is fair to the region or to me.

With that said, I'll continue to serve out the term until a new Prime Minister can take office. I'll continue to be available to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet to provide advice and as a staffer in different Ministries. In some ways, I even hope that with the mantle of obligatory leadership lifted I will have greater energy to again find the work I genuinely enjoy in NS. I hope to one day return to executive leadership and Cabinet service, as it is something I genuinely cherish and enjoy. But for now, I don't have it in me.

Yours faithfully,
HS

RE: Resignation as Prime Minister - Kris Kringle - 03-06-2022

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE ELECTION COMMISSIONER

I have taken notice of the resignation submitted by Prime Minister HumanSanity, intended to be made effective upon the election of a successor. I have also taken notice of the fact that, while the Elections Act does not not explicitly require that special elections be held after a vacancy has occurred, neither does it explicitly allow for a special election to be held prior to a vacancy occurring. In view of this ambiguity in the law, and out of an interest to avoid acting outside the remit of my competencies as Election Commissioner, I would like to announce the following:
  • I will not hold a special election until such a time as I find definitive proof that a vacancy has occurred.

  • I will submit a legal question before the High Court to seek future clarity on the nature of resignations and the ability of the Election Commissioner to hold special elections when a vacancy is expected but has yet to occur.
I hope the region will understand that, far from seeking to destabilise the workings of government, these actions are an attempt to operate within the confines of the law and to act only as permitted by the Charter and the Elections Act.

Kris Kringle
Election Commissioner

RE: Resignation as Prime Minister - HumanSanity - 03-06-2022

I look forward to seeing the result of the High Court's deliberations. That said, I'll make the immediate question easier for the sake of simplicity:

I hereby resign as Prime Minister, effective immediately.
