[IC] A Disease of Uncertain Nature - rosaferri - 03-13-2020

Aweiqinna, Huawan - WF Committee on Health

The delegates of the world bustled about as several travel bans emerged overnight immediately over the spread of Gastrointestinal Consumption Disease strain 4, colloquially known as GID-20. As it stands, several have died in Eggraria, and spread continues.

Octavian Smith found this reason enough to attend the Committee on Health himself, mixed in with the crowd of delegates of the world.

Planning to deliver a speech on the matter, he gathered himself at the desk of the WF Committee on Health's Eggrarian seat, occupied by the ambassador to Huwan.

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for attending this meeting at such short notice. As you may know within the week there seems to be a massive explosion of cases from the norovirus disease dubbed the GID-20. The disease spreads waterborne and foodborne, and has caused tremendous turmoil in the region. As the World Forum we would need to draft a response in these testing times, and I gather you all here, honorable delegates, to discuss about a strategy we may all adopt.

Without further ado, I hereby provide his excellency Octavian Smith, the Eggrarian speaker to the World Forum, the floor.

He stood from his seat, turning on the microphone. Gathering himself, he spoke these words:

"Diplomats, we recognize your trials and concerns in these times. I would like to preface this by saying that me and my staff, my family, and many of those close to me have tested negative for this disease. We're watching our supply of food very carefully and following the guidelines set by our Office of Health."

"While we have made an effort to discover the matters of the disease, we have found that it is not enough to simply wait around and decide what to do. We need immediate action and a resolution that would result in our health as an international body being prioritized."

"In Eggraria, I do solemnly recognise that we have not done enough in public health funding against this disease. In fact, the disease is still in debate within our own community whether this is a parasitic or viral matter-- certainly, it seems to show the attributes of a parasite, but has spread far more rapidly than it should have. Hold your speculations, for we are still investigsting this matter."

"The first discussion I want to bring to this body is a proposed World Fund of Disease Control, or WFDC, in which this body may take their funding and outsource it to an international community of scientists to work together for discovery, research, and prevention of disease. We have seen many nations bring forth their finances towards the disease in their own borders; let us bring together our own resources to fight off these diseases of uncertain nature."

"Secondly, I wish to bring forth the discussion of travel bans. Many nations have made efforts to make travel bans, but we also must recognize we cannot put a hold on our lives. We suggest putting regulations in place for approved and restricted travel in states of emergency to uniformly tackle the issue at hand."

"While we are simply an observer nation, we want to propose ideas and solutions from our point of view to hopefully bring a solution for those most afflicted. For those with and without cases, a decision to create a powerful international cooperation to destroy harmful disease will ultimately save lives and prevent others from the potential of disaster."

Octavian paused to collect himself once more.

"Thank you, I yield the rest of my time."

He sits back down, disinfecting the microphone he just spoke into after turning it off.

We should call it the Eggrarian disease. It would only make sense, you see.

(Please refrain from making any comments in the WF-threads as long as you are not a member or observer. And if you'd make comments as member/observer, make sure, it doesn't sound like it'd come out of a certain orange politician's mouth, but more like something actually constructive to the discussion)

RE: [IC] A Disease of Uncertain Nature - Hammerstar - 05-14-2020

"We have seen the catastrophic results of the GID-20 infection in this world and have continuously led the international world against this disease. While infection rates have slowed down in the past couple of months, resting on our laurels is simply out of the question.

With the formation of the World Forum now in effect, the committee would entertain the suggestion of the World Fund of Disease Control of WFDC. A trust fund made to control and fund the research to stop the GID-20 infection, as well as coordinate the progress to prevent this disease from spreading even further.

We would also like to legitimize the current WF-Health Research Initiative, and a particular highlight to the Initiative for Vaccine Research Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals. Which would become head coordinator for the combat against GID-20 and future infections.

We call forth our brothers and sisters in the World Forum to ensure that our future is safe and secure against illness of body and mind, and highlight the key for cooperation. We therefore open the discussion for solutions to curb the GID-20 pandemic.

"Our humble Peocracy has managed to prevent the spread of GID-20 in its borders with stringent healthcare initiatives, particularly excellent access to clean water and healthcare awareness. We have also made large progress on the new drug to curb the GID-20 parasite. Yinidazole, and has recently published the protocol to mitigate the disastrous effects GID-20 has on the Gastrointestinal tract and its recent testing initiatives.

We would need the support of other member states to help in the research of the efficacy of Yinidazole against the GID-20 parasite, and propose a full region-wide meta research to ensure the safety of the drug for subjects. The Peocracy would be happy to take the helm as leading researcher for this drug.
