Same-sex marriage
#11

Despite Ausstan's largely conservative attitude, same sex attraction is not viewed down on by the public, and is entirely legal, though exceedingly rare.

Marriage was abolished in Sovonor in 1973, replaced by civil unions for heterosexual couples. Over the years, the provinces stopped enforcing the sexual orientation restriction, until the Rad voted to make same-sex unions officially legal in 1997.

Multi-spousal (including same gender) marriage contracts are the norm in Volaworand.  The law makes no distinction based on sexuality.  Marriage contract disputes are handled by the courts, as would any contract dispute.  While religious freedoms are enshrined in the Constitution, society and the courts largely view this as a freedom from religion guarantee.

Most Volaworandian marriages contracts are plural, with five contract parties being the most common.  Exclusively heterosexual or exclusively homosexual contracts group are uncommon, with most marriage contract groups forming sexually fluid households.  Individuals may only contract within one marriage contact group at a time.

The state withdrew from state regulation of marriage in 2017, after the system of tracking spousal arrangements became unwieldy.   All taxation forms are filed as individuals - entering a marriage contract group provides no tax benefits.

Homosexuality is known as unregistered cohabitation and their marriage unrecognized by the Peocracy.

As such a following rule that covers illegal marriages would result in imprisonment and a heavy fine, it is, therefore, a conjugated law that illegal homosexual marriage in Huawan would lead to imprisonment.

While the existence of Homosexuality is recognized by Huawan, its practice is frowned upon. The Peony has been one that exercises her acceptance but does note of her personal displeasure. Stating

"While we do not condone, we neither support. Nevertheless, they are children of The Peocracy, and would be offered equal rights. They must, of course, be accountable for their actions, as with other Paeonisians."
