The United States of Izaakia takes majority shares of Izaakias two main power companies, Zephyrus Power and StarBright Energy aiming to complete a full buyout of both companies and smaller competitors by the end of the year. The aim of this venture under finance minister Charles Boulangeries Grand economic plan is to create a state monopoly that can produce excess power over 200% of current capacity through renewable energy at rock bottom prices. The scheme is part of Izaakias plan to modernise the economy and through cheap abundant power outcompete rivals whilst maintaining higher living standards.

The surviving member of the hit squad that attempted to assassinate President Blanc has been sentenced to a whole life sentence without parole on charges of conspiracy to murder and treason.

The Ministry of Education has reduced the amount of homework students get. The Minister of Education said, "School is for learning and studying, not home". His Excellency agreed with this but lengthened school days from 8 hours to 9 hours. Schools now start half an hour earlier than they did previously.

Alterran President Thomas Anderson (D) has stressed the need for stronger bipartisanship in the Federal Congress, particularly among his own party which recently divided itself into moderate centrists who support the President's progressive policies and conservatives who oppose it. Although the Democrats of Alterra, President Anderson's party, maintains a massive and overwhelming majority in both houses of Congress, the President now has to deal with internal strife among his own party members, which could prove lethal to his radically progressive economic plan for the country.

After 2 weeks away, President Blanc returns to office, disobeying medical advice from her doctor. In a speech she said that she was feeling well, however the attempt on her life has put things in new perspective. Emphasising how important it is to live life and the importance of taking action today as tomorrow may never come. She then signed an executive order which removed the exemption of elected officials from the Working Time Provision which limits working hours to 40 hours a week, stating the importance that elected officials remain grounded in society and connected to their families in order to keep them motivated and reduce the detachment from society in the political class.

Journalists have already started labelling this parliament the 9 to 5 Parliament.

A conservative legal think tank called the Justice League of Izaakia are to launch an appeal into the sentence of the surviving attempted assassin on the grounds that the sentence is too lenient. They aim to propose that although the death penalty has been abolished for almost 200 years, at the time of abolition high treason was exempt from this law, and although the death penalty hasn’t used since 1832 it is still technically the legal punishment for high treason.

Alterran President Thomas Anderson is set to unveil his new book, The Creators of Tomorrow, at the Alterran National Book Fair tomorrow. The book, which details the day-to-day life as President of Alterra, also doubles as a rallying cry for greater bipartisan cooperation and unity among the members of the Federal Congress, particularly within Anderson's own Democrats of Alterra party. The book's teaser stated that 'a politician cannot act as a creator of tomorrow, of the future, and of a better nation unless they willingly and wholeheartedly opt to cooperate with their peers'.

The Federal Convention of the Federal Republic of Besern has elected Eber Schulte to be President of the Federal Republic of Besern, replacing Atrueue Vischervonda, who is chancellor and was exercising interim power as acting president. He is expected to start his five-year term in the coming week.
