The white colonists, which took control of the island in 1666, brought them as a workforce in substitution of the natives (who had been wiped out by 1721) until 1838, when slavery was abolished. The white population left en masse after independence in 1956.
If you want to try and reconcile it into a more TSP-friendly canon there's always imperialism from your friendly neighbour Farengeto. Tounge
