Gagarin is the sector capital of the Gagarin Sector. The planet is covered in ice caps except for large spots where large volcanic activity has created large tropical valleys. The planet was colonized as a hub for rural planets to form trade routes. The colony is honoured in the name of the first Terran to reach space, Yuri Gagarin, and is notable for the many Slavic ethnicities currently residing on the planet. History Gagarin was initially settled in 1588 PD, thirteen years after the Qoxex Crusade. The colonists started the foundations of the future capital in the Baïkal Valley. Later on the colonists made the capital city of Glacial City (Lednikoviy Gorod) which is build inside the ice caps next to Baïkal Valley. Within these geothermal valleys, rural towns in typical Slavic style were build and wilderness too became tamed. Gagarin became known for its rare fauna and flora and became known as a local resort world. The main focus of Gagarin would be the Slavic artisanship and the commerce with the strategic economic location. Gagarin was unfortunately during the Velutarian War. Although Gagarin was lucky enough to receive new shield generators and protected by new installations. The Navy also had one of their most famous defences which were able to significantly damage Velutarian forces. However the Velutarian forces invaded the planet and then nearly a decade of ground warfare continued until the eventual liberation lead by the valiant defender from the First Battle of Gagarin, High Admiral Chekov. During the Velutarian War Spartans held the ground and are still honoured to this day for it. Geography While other geothermal valleys have been settled as well, the Baïkal Valley is still the most inhabited. These geothermal valleys have formed due to the heat from the core making its way close to the surface because of magma flows. There is very few geological activity, hence why the geothermal valleys have been there for centuries and perhaps millions of years. These valleys host unique wildlife and plants. Hot water rivers cross between the many geysers that spur out hot warmer. Zhukov National Park inside the Baïkal Valley.
Fauna and Flora Amongst the most notable wildlife are the Dhuvai Moose and the Tauntaun. The Dhuvai Moose are large herbivores that grass in between the tropical forest. Towering at about 9 m, this massive beast can be quite aggressive when challenged. Hence why it has become a popular hunted animal. Because of their fast growth speed, like most of the animals on Gagarin, their species have no number with sustaining the hunting practices. The other animal is a bipedal repto-mammalian that has been the domesticated. The Tauntaun graze on the outer fringes of the geothermal valleys near the glacial walls. They are docile creatures and serve as mounts at about 2 m heights. Because of this, they have also been exported to other cold colonies throughout the Star Kingdom. Because of the isolated valleys the local wildlife may vary in each valley. Indicating that they once had a common ancestor, but have grown divergent over the many centuries they have been separated. A Dhuvai Moose and Tauntaun Gagarin has no natural satellites and is quite far away from its star compared to other colonies.
