Paragon is the Sector Capital of the Paragon Sector. This planet was colonized after the Marcavani Crusade (roughly 100 years ago)and the Marcavani were used to build a giant monument in honour of Traian the Great's Marcavani Crusade. The planet, although less hospitable, was set to be an example of Stoinian perseverance and colonial expansion. History Paragon was set to be a prime example of Traian's ethnic preservation policies. Newly claimed after the Marcavani Crusades, Paragon was set to be the Stoinian epicentre for Arabic and African cultures. The first settlers founded cities near the ocean, commonly referred to as Traian's Ocean, but soon after settlers followed the rivers inland and also founded more rural towns. Eventually from these towns the Stoinians would slowly start to tame the deserts. Taming and domesticating the wildlife to help them explore the deserts. In some rural towns it is often a rite of passage for young men to go out in the desert and survive for a week. The planet's population has been very traditional, although there is a mix of cultures and religions, tolerance for each culture is the norm and many participate in each other festivals. Still Stoinian Orthodoxy is the most dominant religion on the planet, roughly 45% of the populace, with Stoinian Islam following it at 35%. Because of the many cultures in dialogue with each other, knowledge and philosophy became relevant aspects in Paragonian society. The Royal Paragon Planetary University is renowned for the many philosophers and thinkers that have come from it. Thus becoming a centre for intellectuals to come and share their ideas and believes. Paragon was spared of the Velutarian War and as one of the few sector capitals that didn't suffer the consequences of the War, they did help in rebuilding the Gagarin, Qingdao and Tozoria sectors. Geography The planet has one large ocean that is commonly called Traian's Ocean while the rest of the planet is covered in sand and rocks. The planet has very few mountain ranges, rarely exceeding 1 km above sea level. Therefore Paragon is considered very flat, but the many dunes in the deserts make the surface rather erratic. While the ocean makes land around its beaches fertile, the more you go inland, the more sand you will find alongside rock structures which haven't yet been explained on how they formed. This doesn't mean that there is no green inlands. Rivers and oasis basins have proven invaluable in the further colonization of Paragon. The Selassie River in the Rocky Valley.
Fauna and Flora The planet, while mostly dry, isn't devoid of wildlife. While many palm-like trees grow near water sources, so are many animals found there. The most known herbivore is the domesticated dhuga that serves as cattle on Paragon. Their crescent are often used for making ornate decorations. As the dhuga also tower at 2,5 m, they also serve as excellent travel companions in the desert. Although only a few subspecies are capable of surviving the hardships of the deserts, these are called the desert dhuga, while the other dhuga species are often called the oasis dhuga. The natural predator of the dhuga is the mogull lion. Paragon's top predator that lives in the other fringes of oases hunting the dhuga. They also have been known to attack cattle farms and are therefore hunted to maintain population controls. While only being 0,8 m high, it can reach up to 3 m in length. This sleek build give the mogull lion the capability to dig itself in sand and wait for smaller prey to come to it. While this method is effective for smaller animals that live in the desert, they still have to ambush their main prey in the oasis forests. The oasis dhuga and the mogull lion. Satellites Paragon has two moons: Hulud and Exila. Hulud is small and barren and thus not colonized. Exila however is the moon where the women and children of the Marcavani were exiled after the Marcavani Crusade. There they live in primitive exile for their crimes during the Marcavani Crusade. Some extremists have called for the hunting of the Marcavani like the Mardakii, but the Paragonian Government has made it clear that that won't happen. Instead saying that this form of exile is enough punishment and over a long period of time can serve as atonement for their actions. While it isn't uncommon to find many Marcavani skulls on paragon as remnants from the Marcavani Crusade, they still are seen as somewhat precious by the planet's populace. The bust of a Marcavani.
