What New Ideas Will Next Month’s Elections Bring?

In February, the South Pacific will hold a Cabinet election that may prove consequential when the defendersphere appears to be gaining strength. Since becoming a defender region in 2019, the South Pacific has ingrained itself within the defendersphere and solidified its position as a defender superpower.
After spending a year building its defender credentials, the South Pacific became an ideas factory and led the charge for a bloc between defenders. The June 2020 Cabinet elections resulted in a Minister of Foreign Affairs who promised to "build a bloc for defenders". While that promise did not come to fruition in that minister's term, his successor delivered the bloc – the Partnership for Sovereignty – by the end of his term in January 2021.
Even now, the South Pacific continues to generate ideas and work towards their realization. Change is coming to the defendersphere, and right now, the South Pacific is where new ideas are born for it. As we head into the upcoming elections, whom we elect to serve in our Cabinet as our next Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs will be pivotal.
The South Pacific and the rest of the defendersphere need innovators who can bring something new and worthwhile to the cause. Defenders could ratify a multilateral security treaty or develop relationships with regions that have a falling out with the raiders. Whatever the next term could bring, it is incumbent upon our Assembly to elect a new Cabinet in February who will build and expand the defendersphere with novel ideas.
