Tsu for Chair of the Assembly
#11

I really appreciate your efforts to be the voice of reason in the past few months.

At times the Assembly has lingered over a vote that has a motion to vote and a second for some time and at times it has rushed right into voting when only two or three people have discussed. How do you think this issue might be addressed? Do we need more time or awareness of a debate before it is brought to vote? Should there be a mandatory 3 day discussion first or a certain number of second\third\fifths?

If ya could make one structural or procedural change to the Assembly, what would it be?

Honestly, I don't really think we need much structural change. I don't think including a set time for debate would be productive -- every legislative action is unique and needs to be treated as such.

Honestly, I believe that -- barring extraordinary circumstances -- every seconded motion should come to vote. If it fails because the needed debate hasn't hashed out the issues -- it fails. Not every bill put up for a vote needs to pass.

Likewise, however, I think it is the Chair's role to insert themselves into the debate to make sure the parties are working together before we get motions and/or seconds.

With only a few hours left 'til the polls open, I only have one more question. You're old as dirty when it comes to this game. How's that make ya feel?

... well I didn't feel as old as dirt ... but I do now :dodgy:

And actually, it's a really ... uncanny feeling. On one hand, I feel like a fish outta water around newer, more cosmopolitan players and on the other hand it's really nice knowing a community we helped create 10 years ago is still going strong.

With that, how do you feel being as old as dirt in this game? Tounge

I dig into the archives of some forums and realize I've done and said so much stuff in this game that, for the life of me, I know I'd never remember doin' or sayin', for better or worse, but the person in those archives is still very recognizably me and The South Pacific, for one, is still recognizably TSP. I hope in another ten or eleven years one of these people who founded their first nation, find themselves here, find their way to the forums, register their first account, who, like me, really find a place here for themselves, find out a li'l somethin' 'bout themselves, or just find themselves in general, can look back say the same thing to someone they've spent years of their life playin' this crazy game...And that's when ya realize that it's not just a game and those people on the other side of the screen aren't just players, they're friends.
