STATEMENT ON BRAX INFILTRATION OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC

22 July 2022

As NationStates’ oldest extant democracy, the Coalition of the South Pacific is opposed to efforts to undermine the sovereignty, self-determination, and security of legitimate and peaceful regions. This principled stance is amplified when the region involved is the Coalition itself.

As a result, we were disappointed to learn of an infiltration and spying operation involving the placement (between August and November of 2018) of an agent by the alias ‘Brax’ in the South Pacific, authorized by members of the then-government of The West Pacific. We condemn these acts, committed by past administrations of The West Pacific, in the strongest possible terms. Indeed, at the time of these actions, there was considerable tension between senior members of the South Pacific and members of the Rahl family and others in The West Pacific. Efforts by Rahl members and operatives, regardless of affiliation, to undermine the sovereignty of other regions is nothing new and reaffirms the standing proscription against current and former members of the Rahl family as a security threat in the past following their failed coup of our allies in The East Pacific. This information about the activities of senior members of the Rahl family, along with others who are no longer associated with The West Pacific but instead with regions that have continued this pattern of espionage against the Coalition’s treatied partners only confirms what we previously understood about the threat they represent to regional autonomy and security, especially of game-created regions, including our own.

While many of the involved individuals are already prohibited from entry and/or citizenship in the South Pacific, the Cabinet shall address this as a clear act of hostility against the Coalition. The Cabinet hereby fully proscribes the player known as Brax/FaeBae under Article 1(1)c and 1(1)e of the Proscription Act for acting on behalf of a foreign entity to gain access to privileged information; and the players known as Big Bad Badger, Neenee, Davelands, and Kawaii Schoolgirls/Victoria are hereby fully proscribed under Article 1(2) and Article 1(3) of the Proscription Act for conspiracy to commit and complicity in committing acts of hostility against the Coalition. This proscription stands in addition to any existing proscriptions for acts of subversion.

After these releases, we held talks with the current government of The West Pacific, who were able to answer many of our questions about the timeline and confirm the veracity of the claims made in the anonymous forum post, as well as confirming the alias that “Brax” used in the South Pacific and that the operation has since concluded. Notably, they also verified that the operation was both initiated and concluded before the declaration of détente between the South Pacific and The West Pacific, and concluded very quickly after the beginning of the tenure of Delegate of the West The Holy Principality of Saint Mark, the Delegate who declared a détente with the South Pacific. We would like to thank Delegate of the West Giovanniland, Minister of Foreign Affairs Varanius, and Guardian of the West Dilber for their friendly and forthcoming handling of this matter. The détente between the South Pacific and The West Pacific remains in effect and we are pleased to have seen The West Pacific’s current government act in a manner befitting a region which respects the sovereignty of its fellow game-created regions. This interaction has confirmed our prior assumptions that the influence of the Rahl family’s disruptive and dangerous subversive agenda has been removed from the government of The West Pacific.

The South Pacific considers this matter closed. We wish to reiterate that the Coalition of the South Pacific will not tolerate attempts to subvert its institutions or sovereignty, nor will it allow its foreign affairs to be manipulated by an “anonymous” puppet with an apparent agenda to prop up organizations which represent a more imminent threat to regional sovereignty than the neutralized role that Rahl once played in The West Pacific.

Signed,
HumanSanity,
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the South Pacific

Jay Coop (Qvait),
Prime Minister of the South Pacific

On behalf of the Cabinet
