Arby-Rhodes: Opportunity and Discovery

Out of interest, do you still play Neopets? I used to years ago, probably could find some decent items in my account still. If I can remember my password,  which I probably can't.

Your response won't effect my vote btw Smile

That is for Glen/Sandaoguo btw.

Every now and then I get bored and create an account to play games. But no I haven't really played it since I was like 15.

Regardless of my personal feelings towards Milograd and the coup, I looked at the criteria given by law, "Is he a security threat?" and "Is he willing to reform/has reformed?". Regardless of Milo's service to the region in the future there is no way anyone will elect him Delegate, so there's no security threat there. From what I've seen of Milo after the coup, including some discussions in #the_south_pacific, I've determined that he is willing to make amends for his behavior during the coup. Due to Milo meeting the above criteria, I voted to grant him parole.

However, I do believe that at the very least we need to reevaluate the criteria the Parole Board should judge it's parolees on.

There was a discussion held between the members of the Parole Board on IRC. The only reason that the logs weren't made public earlier is because the thought never crossed my mind.

Brutally honest analysis incoming:

Hobbes/Quietdad:
Strengths - Greater Transparency of government, more official communication to the region, has military contacts, won't be pushed around by foreign powers
Weaknesses - No evidence as to what direction Hobbes will take TSP except for saying "Once we start on this path I'll keep us on there."

Tsunamay/Penguin
Strengths - Help further connect region to forum, create ties with UCRs
Weaknesses - Broad statements on how to connect region with forum (no concrete ideas), abandons the GCR Security Network completely, neglects relations with our current allies.

ProfessorHenn/TheUnitedSolarRepublic
Strengths - Can expect some CSS recommendations.
Weaknesses - Platform is based around security, when we are already fairly secure in that aspect, apparent lack of Foreign Knowledge, Uses broad ideals instead of telling how they will accomplish the entire Integration portion (the second most important part of their campaign).

Arbiter08/Sandaoguo
Strengths - Offers concrete ideas for regional affairs which will generate activity, Offers specific ideas on how we will deal with Foreign Affairs,
Weaknesses - Any weaknesses of this platform would come from having a different opinion on aspects of it.

You notice the feeder within the hour and happen to be free all day - you are also aware that most of the rest of the cabinet will not be around for the rest of the day, if not for the next couple of days.

The GCR quickly attracts a small group of roughly organized people who identify themselves, on the RMB, as being from a non-descript non-NS related online community. A couple of representatives find the TSP IRC channel and are available to chat. Their IP addresses, should you check them, are reliable ISPs and unknown to you.

It quickly seems that they have a tenuous grasp on the WAD - they far exceed any endos picked up by any ragtag WA members, but could quickly be dislodged by a concerted effort from almost any GCR or UCR military (say, a half-dozen to a dozen). They have no forum set up, but do have an IRC channel with multiple OPs and a clear OP hierarchy.

You seem to be the only major GCR politician at the time, and no prominent gameplayers are in their IRC channel.

What do you do?

The first thing that I would do is join the native's IRC channel. I would then ask around for who they consider to be a leader, and query him/her. In the query I would warn them about how there may be other groups out there that want to take over their region, and state that I'll be speaking with my Cabinet about the matter, and will see if I can lend some military support to ensure their stability. I would then post a thread about it in the cabinet office, and then probably hang around their IRC channel for a bit to get to know them. After that it's all up to how the cabinet discussion goes.

Question for you candidates:

Will you endorse role-plays (sci-fi, historical, technological, etc.) made by residents and promote the well-being of this region by encouraging the thousands of nations in TSP who are rarely or never posting on the RMB and/or do not currently participate in the region's activities to start doing so to make the fun and entertainment greater and the society stronger, creating an inviting atmosphere, and making a reason for future nations founded or moved to TSP to stay in this region, and carving your names as loving and affectionate Delegate and Vice-Delegate forever in the minds of TSPers and NationStates in general?

Role-Playing is always fun. I would definitely help to promote it if there was enough interest. As for encouraging nations, I would love to help out with that Happywide
