Changes to Parole
#211

Good point.

Still seems like an auto approval, no mention of briefs being considered in any decision (could be completely ignored). Seeing as it is up to vote now, (coincidentally was put to vote when many couldn't get access to discuss this - not suggesting anything sinister) had to support it, as it is better, but still think it needs to be amended further.

What is sinister is two proceeding motions to vote on a competing draft being ignored.

Itb seems the Assembly is only allowed to vote on proposals the Chair personally supports now.

Bel, stop trying to cause drama. There have been innumerable times where the Assembly couldn't form a consensus, kept pushing forward opposed drafts, only to have the Chair use their discretion to ensure things don't become a free for all.

If you want an automated process, then propose getting rid of the chair altogether. We don't need a chair to vote on things. We have one to moderate debate and try to form a consensus.

Actually, we have moderators to moderate debate, and we have Assembly people to try to form a consensus. The duties of the Chair as outlined by the Charter are largely magisterial.

Oh, stop defending Unibot no matter what he does Glen. It makes you look silly, especially when the behavior you defend would see you outraged if it was any other player doing it.

There is no precedent whatsoever for a Chair to flat out refuse to bring legal legislation to vote. Ever.

The democracy at the heart of this region cannot function if anything Unibot doesn't like never gets voted on.

We do not have moderators. Cabinet members are responsible for moderating their own forums.

That's just a ridiculous post, G-E. We all know what the chair is supposed to be. I'm definitely not going to get into a debate about it.

@bel: I did the same thing when I was chair, Bel. I didn't put things to vote immediately after they were seconded. I ignored motions when I felt they were premature, or that a consensus could still be reached.

Your attempts at trying to build a case to recall Unibot are so transparent and annoying. He's not doing anything a chair isn't supposed to do, so stop trying to stir up drama.

We're voting on an amendment. You can motion your preferred text to vote after that vote is finished. It would be dumb to vote on competing laws at the same time. If any of you had bothered to address the chairs concerns before tsu motioned a straightforward amendment, instead of complaining about being asked to do that, then maybe yours would have been up to vote sonnet.

Which are being performed highly subjectively in a blatant erosion of the Assembly's ability to function, never mind to the democratic principles of this region.

Is the Chair supposed to be the sole arbiter of what the Assembly is and isn't allowed to vote on? Because that is what Unibot is doing.

I'm inclined to agree, but I've found myself somewhat disappointed in certain individuals that I rarely find myself disappointed in, as well.

We had an election, the people voted, and we are stuck with those we have elected. You get the government you vote for. Lets just try and change things as best we can but we have to work within the framework we have. There is nothing preventing us from further amending the parole laws so lets just stay with it until we can get the changes that we want.

I am working on a proposal for further changes and as soon as my finals are finished i will have some time to finish it. Im basically looking to change the composition of the parole board to make sure its only about the administration of justice by having only justices' make up the board members. Also I would like to see the convict be the one to initiate the hearing by applying for it with the justice department. The justices would schedule a hearing at which point the convict would open by making a statement as to why they want back in to the region. I would allow a 3 day time frame for citizens to voice opinions, comments, character references, ask the convict questions, etc. After the hearing the judges make their ruling and we go from there.
