What? We're holding a Great Council? When did this happen? I must have missed it.

There's been behind-the-scenes discussions on holding a Great Council to better incorporate our RMB community into the government. However, a final decision on if and, if so, when we're having one hasn't been made.

Well, I guess they're not as behind the scenes anymore.

Ha.  Yeah ... apparently.

The hitch is that there isn't much that needs to be changed; overall the government is stable and I'm concerned about changing that by having a Great Council. Even if we do hold one, I imagine it to be rather limited in scope.

I actually think we could easily make the changes I'm after with a charter amendment and a change to the code of law and that might be easier for all involved.

I figured a Great Council would be overkill, but I wanted to see your opinion before saying so. There are no outstanding issues with The Charter and The CoL or at the very least, not enough to go that far.

if a Great Council happens, it'll probably happen in January.

How have we moved on to discussing a Great Council?

Wait, Great Council already? I've never been on one. It should occur by petition every 6 months, right? Or am I mistaken?

However, our existing code is confusing and could be better organized. With the possibility of a Great Council happening, I've actually started reorganizing the Code of Laws, so that things are organized by subject matter. For example, this particular article has many subjects: Cabinet elections, judicial elections, vacancies, run-off elections, how to qualify for the ballot, COI disclosures, who runs elections, and when they're run and for how long.

The original idea was that the current format would be easier to read and understand. But we keep making it longer, and it's become unwieldy. I think a more formalized format, akin to the real-world US Code, would make things much easier to read. I plan on releasing my suggested reformatting when a Great Council is held. I think that's the easiest way to go about it. If we're going to hold a Great Council anyways, it may be a waste of time to do this right now.

@Punch: It started with GR

No, it's not a scheduled event. A citizen may call a Great Council whenever.

Yes -- and we don't have one now.

In any case, since everything seemed positive about my suggestion ... can I motion it to a vote?

I know it's been a short discussion ... but it's really not much of a change.
