Electoral Reform Survey
#121

(01-30-2015, 08:30 PM)Aramanchovia Wrote: With Bel's proposal in the GC planning on using IRV, which is different to how we currently vote, I think it would be interesting to be able to see the results of this survey (even raw data) to get some idea on what the region feels about some of the key aspects of this style of voting. Any chance we could at least get some results prior to the voting period? I don't want to be voting on a proposal only to find out later everyone hates the key principles of it.

I think that this would be favorable yes, because Bel is trying to rush reform so he gets IRV before other proposals are considered. That means I'll have to put together the report tonight though.

IRV is a very flawed system and in my opinion, is not the system that best meets TSPers's expectations of what a voting system should be. Essentially, Bel thinks IRV will favour him (being a radical candidate, usually).

I agree but IRV/AV would be the best system for TSP. Not to difficult to understand, only elects one person and its much fairer. I do also agree that Bel wants IRV fast s it will favour him.

I am worried that Bel insists that we must have a system that favors radical candidates, since having a radical candidates, who might not be compromising, is not necessarily a good thing.

I'm not trying to rush anything Uni. We're in the middle of a Great Council and I put forward a proposal dealing with electoral reform in regards to Delegate elections. Being in the process of amending the section of the CoL that deals with elections I cleaned it up, and further announced that I'd dropped FPTP in the process.

Further, I perform best under FPTP as I can concentrate on winning a plurality in multiple candidate elections. If this was a question of self interest I would be opposing electoral reform rather than being the only person at the GC to bring it up.

You really are going to have to find some stickier mud to sling.

You perform best under an appointment basis. Clearly, IRV is a compromise for you.

Thanks Uni, looking forward to seeing some results.

Oohh, can't seem to quote for some reason but I was responding to Punchwood about forcing things:

There's a guy named Cormac who had some interesting posts regarding this. You should look into those.
