Plans for SPSF reform
#11

How many missions have you taken part in?
The 16th Delegate of The South Pacific

I'm excited by your candidacy - you seem like an enthusiastic, fresh talent. I'd like to support you, Darkstrait and your candidacy. Furthermore, and I do not say this lightly, I would be interested in helping your proposed recruitment drive. I have until now, abstained from participating in the SPSF and the SPA before that, because of my opposition to its invading of innocent regions, but I fear my obstinance has, in part, led me to not contribute as much to TSP as I could. I consider myself one of the best recruiters in military gameplay; it's a talent of mine that has never failed me. I cannot offer my WA Nation to the SPSF, but I figure I could offer those services to your recruitment drive and that, in itself, could be of immense help to your cause. As I have advocated demilitarization, I will know for certain that it is the right path to take if even I cannot recruit us out of our current state. And I, really, do not like to fail.

What TSP needs is a leader like you, Dark - someone bright and fresh. Who is going to bring us into activity in stride, not return to old political debates over ideology and independentism.

A few questions:
What tools will you use to recruit?
Should we pull out of "war" with GGR and Gatesville?
Will you be more active in missions?
Will you collaborate mutually with the CSS and Cabinet?
Can I go on a mission?(Im itching for action already!)

Regarding your second question, Ryccia, we already pulled out of those wars.

I don't think anyone can fault your enthusiasm so I'm really pleased to see your candidacy.

I won't ask you about recruiting skills as General Henn acknowledged them in an answer to one of his questions. So with that in mind, my questions would be:

1. What do you think are the biggest obstacles to rebuilding the numbers in the SPSF? And how would you solve them?
2. Would you say that the problem of manpower is with the existing structure of the SPSF or that the structure was sound but for whatever reason wasn't properly utilised?

Thank you!

Answering just about every question asked of me in the last few hours:

Aramanchovia: What goals would you be aiming for that you would hope to achieve in your term as Minister?
Me: Well, the SPSF has been allowed to lapse into obscurity. My goals (those not mentioned here will be discussed later in this post) include large-scale recruitment, the development of a militia and/or Civil Guard, and the training of new recruits. Again, if your questions have not been answered, keep reading.

Kringle:
1. Obviously the SPSF needs more members, but the questions is how do you plan to actually get them. You will find that it is incredibly difficult to get people involved simply by posting ads on the RMB.

2. What kind of internal reform do you have in mind?

3. You are supposed to appoint to more Generals. Do you have anyone in mind? Or do you think having one General is enough as long as they can manage the responsibility?

4. What do you mean that only then it can be placed at the disposal of the Assembly? Do you think it is acceptable that Generals have repeatedly resisted and resented reforms to the SPSF, sometimes aggressively, even in view of their lack of progress?

5. What do you think of the Civil Guard proposal?

Best of luck!

Me:
1. It will be difficult to get more members, but we’ve gotten a few recruits and other people interested in this lately. A large-scale move would take time.
2. My reforms aim to basically tear down most of the current system and build a newer, better one. For example, having someone actually check the Fellowship Programme thread regularly for possible recruits. Or the creation of a Sergeant position, someone who will give the recruits basic training. Or get the number of Generals changed.
3. There’s not really a viable candidate for the empty General positions right now. Corporal Clegg is probably the most capable, but he should experience a mission or two first.
4. I don’t think that Generals should be adverse to reform if the reform won’t limit the SPSF to defending or in any other way limit the SPSF’s autonomy. Obviously if a General has a strong opinion, that will be taken into consideration, but if it stands in the way of progress, the reform will go through.
5. A Civil Guard run alongside the SPSF, with part-time “civilians”, would be possible, but recruitment would probably be difficult.

Southern Bellz: How many missions have you taken part in?
Me: Two: Anti Nazi Alliance (which failed) and Anne Frank.

Ryccia: What tools will you use to recruit?
Should we pull out of "war" with GGR and Gatesville?
Will you be more active in missions?
Will you collaborate mutually with the CSS and Cabinet?
Can I go on a mission?(Im itching for action already!)
Me: Telegrams, the Fellowship Programme thread, and if possible occasional advertisements across the top of the forum
I will remain active in missions, but my participation will be limited, since I can’t make the updates.
I will definitely collaborate with both the CSS and the Cabinet.
I’ll send you a PM with basics for a training mission; since we don’t have an official MoA there are no raids or liberations scheduled.

Hopolis: I won't ask you about recruiting skills as General Henn acknowledged them in an answer to one of his questions. So with that in mind, my questions would be:

2. Would you say that the problem of manpower is with the existing structure of the SPSF or that the structure was sound but for whatever reason wasn't properly utilised?
Me: The biggest obstacles would probably be lack of interest and difficulty of getting the word out to enough people. The only way to solve this is to keep trying to get people to join; I’m not sure if there are any better ways to do this, but I’ll do my best to find a new way.
I’m honestly not sure. One of the problems was that Crimson was not an active recruiter; that might have been part of the problem.

Do you seriously believe you have the expertise to rebuild a military practically from scratch having only ever taken part in two missions?

Not really, BUT I feel that if I am elected, I'll at least have the sense to listen to my Generals and the will of the Assembly.
Anyway, most missions are pretty similar. When you see one, you see them all. (With a few exceptions, though.)

From scratch? The "military" consisted of 2 people! How hard is it going to be to get bck to that number? Ridiculous!

DS you have my vote in the election for MoA. You seem to have the drive and enthusiasm for the job. Good luck to you.

The military has been reduced to that level over time, but in the past we've had more than a dozen soldiers in some form of service and should be aiming for more once we factor in reserve forces like a regional guard.
