Puerto Pollo scraps plans for new cruise ships terminal

The Puerto Polloan minister of Tourism has announced that the plans for a new cruise ships terminal in the capital Danjer Cove have been officially scrapped. The project was aimed at allowing bigger cruise ships to dock and was to be built outside of the city’s port. It drew fierce criticisms from locals living on the future construction site, who risked evictions, and from foreign environmentalists, but the reason for the cancellation seems to lie on much higher costs than expected.

Bruuma revives native pig breed against swine fever

The Bruuman Ministry of Agriculture has launched a new program to revive the traditional pig breed of the country, the Black Short-Snout Pig. The dark swine was one an ubiquitous feature of both family farms and plantations on the island, and could withstand well both the tropical climate and its diseases.

After independence, it was gradually substituted by imported breeds which grew bigger and could be raised in the state’s industrial farms. However, repeated bouts of swine fever in the latest years, which forced farms to put down thousands of animals, have brought the government to reconsider the original black pig.

Now a new program will be tasked to raise and gradually substitute the pink pigs with their darker and more resistant cousins.

Puerto Pollo searching international partners for restoring Art Deco buildings

[Image: 59170476-il-palazzo-bacardi-edificio-bac....jpg?ver=6]

During the 1920s, the wealthy elite of planters and traders who ruled Puerto Pollo enjoyed a lavish lifestyle, in stark contrast with the miseries of the peasants. At the time, the Art Deco fad hit the island and families and the government built lavish buildings in the style. Unfortunately, the Civil War of the latter half of the century caused the neglect of many of this historical landmarks. Several palaces were destroyed in the fightings or demolished after they became unsafe. The survivors are currently in bad shape, but the current regime has launched a restoration campaign, aiming at attracting further tourists on its shores. A call has been issued for international architecture firms and renovation experts to become partners in the venture.

Bruuma acquires Izaakian attack drones

[Image: 7A8A3C16-768A-4961-9D9D720B6C1E321D_600x300.jpg]

Ideological differences seem to matter not so much when money and weapons come into the play. According to leaked sources, Bruuma and Izaakia have signed a defense deal which has seen the voodoo-communist dictatorship acquiring a first batch of 12 D’Attack light drones from the latter.

The vehicles have been delivered to the island using Kai Fa as a front intermediary and have arrived a in the island some times ago. Bruuma decided not to acquire the Izaakian weapons systems in a bid to lower the prices, so the unmanned crafts will have to be fitted with local alternatives before they can be operating.

Brother Unclepear’s regime has also put an option for a further order in the next months. The move comes as the successor to longtime dictator Papa Unclepear is carrying on the long structural and technical reorganization of the Bruuman People’s Defence Forces that began in the aftermath of the Serevan War.

Dozens of arrest after protests in Puerto Pollo

[Image: 500.jpg?quality=85&auto=format&fit=max&s...0fa8c643a4]

In a rare episode of dissent, a few hundreds people took the street in the Puerto Polloan capital of Danjer Cove to protest against the government. The main issue they took on were the limitations imposed to business and the stagnant economy, but they also hurled slogans against the lack fo democracy.

Riot police was dispatched and charged to disperse the demonstrators, arresting dozens in the process. The government quickly labelled the discontent citizens as "agents of hostile powers" and charged them with sedition and treasons, accusation that can cost long sentences.

After coming to power nearly a decade ago, the communist dictatorship that rule the island has managed to reduce extreme poverty, but at the cost of the enterpreneurial dynamism of the middle class. The "licensing" system, which has been set up to allow limited private activities, has been deemed somewhat insufficient to produce a vibrant economy.

While there has been been a sensible growth in turism, the country still rely on subsidies coming from its protector Bruuma -  which also keep a garrison on the island - especially after the regime curtailed the illegal activities which had previously been the biggets source of income in Puerto Pollo, in an ffort to gain more international recognition.
