It's also worth noting that, as big and powerful as the British military was in the 18th century, an armed citizenry could s do something. Do these people really think they can fight a US military that has drones, fighters, bombers, tanks and nukes? Sure, they might be able to resist, but that belief that their guns are the only thing keeping the government from tyranny is just naive. A longstanding democratic culture and an engaged citizenry is what keeps the government in line, most of the time.
