Statement on the Situation in Farengeto
#1

07 June 2015

President Walsh has carefully followed the recent development of events in Farengeto and welcomes the military intervention that restored order. While civilian rule is certainly important, having order within a territory is paramount to the existence of a successful society. We also acknowledge that the Second Farengeto Republic had ceased serving the public and was unable to ensure basic rule of law within its jurisdiction.

We extend a hand of friendship to the Provisional Government and extend official recognition to it as the legitimate government of Farengeto. Our initial talks have been fruitful, and we look forward to further interactions and the future development of our relationship, both within the Southern Cooperation Organisation and the broader South Pacific.

Secretary of Foreign Affairs
Former Delegate of the South Pacific
