Good Times!

G’Day folks! I’m here today to tell you why you should vote for me to be the next Minister of Regional Affairs. Recently, the region has undergone a lot of changes. There are more to be made, too. We’ve still got kinks to be ironed out and I’s to be dotted. As we enter into a new era of prosperity for our wonderful region, we need an experienced hand to lead the most important ministry into the future. Someone who, despite some past mistakes, has always and will always act in the best interests of the region. Someone who will always put the region first, before anything else. I believe this someone is me, and with me at the helm, this ministry will be the greatest it has ever been, and with it, the region too.

I’ve got some ambitious, but entirely achievable targets for all facets of the region.

The RMB and gameside in general is an incredibly important part of the region. We need to further engage with the many people who frequent this part of the region. First and foremost, we need to increase visibility and transparency of the MoRA and regional goings on. I would like to bring back TSP Weekly, to give everyone a greater idea of what’s going on in the region at large. I also don’t see why the fun we have on the forum can’t also be had on the RMB. In order to facilitate this, I would like to start having regular games of hangman, as well as reintroducing activities such as TriviaSP. On top of these, I would also like to start having things like general trivia, and music lyrics games, as well as roleplaying and collaborative story and poetry writing (where people take in turns to add lines).

Another place I believe we can improve is our utilisation of regional chat rooms. Right now, there’s not much to be found there. Occasional chatter, plenty of inactivity, and rare voice chats. I would like this to change. This can be an integral part of our community, if treated the right way. With me as MoRA, I would introduce activities that would take place on our Discord server. Some will be fun, such as karaoke or games chats, others will be more serious, like assembly debates. I would like to introduce regular karaoke ‘nights’, and advertise these ahead of time on the RMB to generate interest and activity. The same would be done with the debates, which would be advertised well ahead of time. I would also like to start having other activity, such as quizzes, and fun voice chats, where we would talk about anything, from games, to chemtrails, to 20 questions with someone. I would also like to start using Discord in relation to games, which I will get into more detail with later.

The fellowship programme needs a major revamp. The link to the thread in the forum header is broken, the thread is filled with ancient and completely outdated and it is scarily big. There isn’t even a link to it in the regional WFE. We need a new thread, filled with new information, new descriptions, new graphics, and less confusing and misleading directions for information. Most importantly, we need a thread which has working links to both the forum header and the WFE. We also need to advertise the fact that the fellowship programme is a thing on the RMB, and open up applications to both a Discord channel, and telegram. That way we will bypass the traditional wall of joining the forum, and allow a new group of people to join, who were previously unable to do so. These people may even then decide to join the forum, after these experiences.

Further in terms of integration, there are a couple of long term projects I would like to see finally get off the ground, which haven’t, yet. The first one is the companion programme, which would involve new members to the region and forum being able to request a companion, who would help them learn the ropes of the region, and get started. The other project is the NS Handbook. The NS Handbook, would act as a guide to NS and the region, for all players to be able to refer to when they’re unsure of something. This would allow them to get more involved in the region and feel more welcome. Although both of these projects have been around for a while, I feel now is the time to finally get them up on their feet.

Culturally, I’ve got a few things planned, too. Firstly, I would like to finally get the TSP Awards over the line, and happening shortly after the start of my term. Another activity I would like to get happening early on in my term is a World Census Knockout Competition, which we have held a couple of times previously, but not for a while. I would also like to hold monthly writing contests, which would be open to both the forum and gameside, and potentially other regions, too. These would be either with a prompt, or free, and would be open to both short stories and poetry. Another thing I would like to do before the end of my term would be to organise and run another South Pacific Regional Games, which would be open to this region, and many other friendly regions.

The communications bureau would also undergo great innovation throughout my term. The most important part is the return of TSP Radio. I would like to have regular shows. I would like some to be news broadcasts, some to be discussions and some to be music shows. Anyone would be welcome to appear, and anyone would be welcome to request music. I would also like to open it up for dignitaries from other regions to appear, too. Another project I would like to finally introduce is the much promised Cabinet’s Questions. Different members of the government will answer questions from the general public, about their respective areas. This has been promised for a long time, and now is the time for it to be delivered. During my term, I would not make any changes to the SJ. I would, however, ensure that regular issues will be published, of both the SJ and the TIR. As mentioned earlier, I will also bring back TSP Weekly.

There are some other areas I see a need to improve on, too. I would like to capitalise on the presence of our Steam group, by having regular games ‘nights’. These would be advertised across the region, and everyone would get a say in which games will be played, and when. I would also like for us to start having regional games of things like Town of Salem, and Cards Against Humanity. For  both the Steam games, and ToS/CAH, I would like to use the Discord voice chat capabilities, to allow for communication and heightened entertainment during these games. I would also like to look into having a Minecraft server for everyone to play on.  Another thing I’d like to introduce would be to have sports tipping competitions on different events. We could have a tipping competition on things like the NFL, EPL, and other sporting competitions, depending on what people are interested in.

As the minister, I would be working closely with the rest of the cabinet. In particular I would work with the MoFA to help ensure foreign participation in a lot of my ideas, the LC to integrate further with the gameside community, and the MoMA to help with promotion and recruitment. I would need to work with all of the cabinet, as well as the CoA, to freshen up and improve the fellowship programme. I would also need to work closely with them on the Cabinet’s Questions.

In conclusion, I feel I am the best person for the job, although I am competing with two very good candidates, both of whom will make excellent ministers in the future. I have a lot of ideas for how to improve the MoRA and region. A vote for me is a vote for integration, innovation and improvement. A vote for me is a vote for a bright future. I hope to see you voting for me when voting opens, and either way, I look forward to continuing to work at making the MoRA and region a better place. A vote for me is a vote for good times for the region!

Sam — what would you say is the more significant difference between your campaign and your opponents'?

What do you plan to do next term if you are not elected?
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Good campaign but there are a lot of things you want to achieve. Will you be more active than you have been if you get elected?
I am Zadiner/Zak. Part of Assembly, some other stuff, Founder of some other region.
Hey, I have a bunch of issues. You don't need to care.

All three campaigns share several similarities. I feel as though mine does a good job of dealing with both 'fun' stuff and serious changes, while Roavin does a good job with serious changes, but not much with 'fun', and Zak half addresses both.

If I don't get elected, I will remain in the MoRA. I wouldn't rule out something like the LC, either.

The simple answer is yes, although I feel like I've been a lot more active than you give me credit for.

Also, if anyone has any questions, I can be found on Discord, as well as in #the_south_pacific on IRC. I'm on the forum and gameside daily, so telegrams and PM's work, too.
