Voting Thread

I think a lot of people are confused here, thinking they need to use all 3 votes. This makes it hard for either candidate to get elected, as including RON is a vote for reopening the elections - the other two votes get cancelled out by the RON. I would be surprised if anyone gets elected this time through.

I recommend rewording the opening post to clarify it a bit more, that you don't need to use all three votes, as a lot of people who want either/both candidates elected are currently throwing their vote away by adding RON as a third vote, without realising it.

My take on it. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I believe if RON ends with the most votes, nobody gets elected. As some people are voting for RON only, anyone voting all three options is the same as not voting at all.

I don't know what the confusion is, since the opening post is almost word-for-word what we used in the last election. But for some reason, people have voted for one option more than once, too. I've clarified it the best I can.

If the RON option gets more votes than any other candidate, then nominations will be reopened. There's nothing the Election Commission can do about that. People are still able to change their votes until the deadline.

Maybe it's because there are only 2 candidates for 3 positions, that's the only reason I can think of. Really in this particular election, nobody should be using all 3 votes - this is the same as not voting at all. It's either RON or 1/2 candidates. Bit pointless voting for all 3 options. Maybe it should have read "Each voter has up to 3 votes". Guessing people think they needed to use all 3. The bolded part hopefully clarifies it, not sure how many will check back though.

I think this process is a total mess and a lot of the voters here seem to have been completely confused over how to vote with it. The instructions aren't particularly clear - even now.

We need to figure out a better way than "RON". For one thing, people seem to want to use RON as an "abstain" - so voters should be allowed to abstain if they like.

Nobody had any trouble last election. I don't buy that having only 2 candidates or having the RON option is a problem here. People know they can abstain, just like they did less than a month ago. The instructions can't be any clearer.

Several people have only voted for one person, or just the RON option. I think it's a simple case of quite a few people not thinking of the consequences of voting the RON option just because there's no third candidate. There's nothing the EC can do about that. There are three votes to cast, and if everybody casts a vote for RON, that's their choice.

People have until 4:00pm EST tomorrow to change their votes, if they want.

If the candidates don't change, I don't see the next elections goin' any differently.
