[DRAFT] Assembly Resolution on the situation in Lazarus
#1

Assembly Resolution on the situation in Lazarus

The Assembly of The Coalition of The South Pacific has noted with great distress the situation occurring in Lazarus these last weeks, and has examined the mutual allegations of voter importation, political corruption and treason. Such allegations, if substantiated, would represent a clear and undeniable breach of the laws of Lazarus, and a complete subversion of the democratic system of government enshrined by the laws of Lazarus. We have found these allegations disturbing, and viewed them as clear indicators of growing conflict and a possible precursor of civil war; however, we had not come to any definitive conclusion nor had we chosen to express judgement on either faction involved in this dispute. Until recently we had hope that Lazarus would be able to resolve these issues peacefully and legally, preserving it's democratic system, and prevent a political crisis from becoming a civil war.

That is obviously no longer the case.

The actions of Delegate Funkadelia and his faction, namely the extra-judicial and illegal removal of their political opponents, is as unambiguous an example of an illegal coup as it is possible to imagine. Claims to the contrary are nothing but the most transparent attempts at propaganda to disguise this, and no informed and objective individual could conclude otherwise.

The alliance between The South Pacific and Lazarus is an alliance between two regions, as represented by their legitimate governments acting in accordance with their own laws; the words legitimate government are no longer applicable to the regime of Funkadelia, for this regime is no longer acting in accordance with their own laws. The South Pacific has not at any point recognised the government of Funkadelia; rather, Funkadelia was the elected leader of a government we had recognised. Such recognition was and is always contingent upon the laws of Lazarus and the terms of our alliance; Funkadelia is now in breach of both. As such, the Assembly of the Coalition of The South Pacific resolves that;

i. The Cabinet should, at the earliest possible opportunity, make clear that The South Pacific does not recognise the Funkadelia regime as a legitimate government of Lazarus
ii. The Cabinet should, at the earliest possible opportunity, make clear that The South Pacific does not recognise our treaty with Lazarus as applying to the Funkadelia regime
iii. The Cabinet should, at the earliest possible opportunity, make clear that The South Pacific is bound to this course of action by the terms of our treaty with Lazarus
