Hiyo folks! Resentine here(again).
So, I've been plotting a playthrough of one of my games, XCOM 2, and I thought "Wouldn't it be fun if I made a TSP Character Pool?"
And so, here we are.
For those of you who don't know, an AAR is an After Action Report. Usually used for games like Paradox's Hearts of Iron, it allows the player to create a narrative for their story in a game for one that normally doesn't have a specific narrative. While XCOM does have a narrative, it leaves many of the RP elements, the development and bonds of your squads, for example, up to you. Which brings me to the important bit.
For this one, there will be no rolling, or any of the sort. It will simply be you guys RPing in your journals, or doing character interactions on your own in #Bantam_Harbor. You guys will be making the members of my XCOM team. This will be taking place on normal Earth, so no Theron or Stockholm.... Well, yes Stockholm but that's different one. In XCOM 2, the world was invaded by Aliens in2015/2016, and despite their best efforts, the world governments, and the XCOM Council, all surrendered to their new alien overlords, called the Elders. The Elders very quickly created a new global government named The ADVENT Coalition. We start in 2035, with the revival of XCOM after it's surviving officers finally get their Mobile Headquarters, The Avenger, up and running.
Below will be a brief on the state of the world as of March 2035 and on the factions in the spoilers. An Application for the Character pool will be below that. I'll let this sit for about a week and a half before we get started.
The year is 2035, 20 years after the Alien Invasion of Earth. We lost, badly. XCOM proved incapable of attenuating the alien threat and was quickly betrayed by the council nations, who surrendered to the aliens shortly after the invasion began. XCOM became nothing more than a resistance force, and went off the radar to avoid persecution at the hands of the aliens. Most of its members either submitted to alien rule and left behind their past or, some, like Central Officer Bradford refused the alien administration and went into hiding. Earth is now controlled by the aliens through the puppet ADVENT Administration, and XCOM has been long-forgotten, members silenced and records erased. ADVENT has done much to gradually improve public opinion of the aliens, most notably by the propagation of the belief that the aliens came in peace, and that the forces of Earth retaliated aggressively and with prejudice.
However, after almost 20 years in silence, XCOM has once again risen out of the ashes. Led by their recently rediscovered Commander, "Res" Saunders, along with Central Officer Bradford, Chief Engineer Lily Shen, and Head Researcher Dr. Richard Tygen, XCOM prepares for a renewed war against Earth's Alien Overlords. However, something much darker lies in the background of the Aliens activities. A secret project, dubbed AVATAR by ADVENT, appears to involved the abduction of thousands of civilians every month to be shipped off to mysterious blacksites around the world. Your objective, XCOM members, is to stop the AVATAR Project, and defeat the Aliens once and for all. Good luck.
Factions
The Resistance, though there are many factions, remains splintered and broken at this early stage. Other than XCOM, there are three main Resistance Factions: The Reapers, The Skirmishers, and The Templars. The Reapers and the Skirmishers have spent the last 10 years fighting each other more than ADVENT, with Reapers regularly picking off Skirmisher troops and Skirmishers burning down Reaper Settlements. Meanwhile, the Templars broke off from XCOM some time ago and have gone into hiding. We need to find and unite all three of these factions if we want any hope of success against ADVENT and the Aliens.
XCOM
Once the front line for resistance against the Aliens during the Invasion, XCOM has now been forced into becoming a small resistance outfit, only being able to strike at small targets. However, with the rescue and return of Commander Saunders, Bradford hopes to begin major recruitment efforts and begin dealing a serious blow to the ADVENT Coalition.
Hailing from the United States, John "Central" Bradford served as the junior commander of XCOM back during the Invasion, serving directly under the commander during the war. However, when XCOM Headquarters was invaded and destroyed by the Aliens, with Bradford and several other officers barely escaping with their lives. In the aftermath of the war and the establishment of ADVENT, Bradford went into hiding, becoming jaded and depressed toward the state of the world. However, when word that the Commander had been found reached him, Bradford jumped into action, restarting XCOM to find the Commander, and bring him home.
The only "second generation" member of XCOM, An-Yi "Lily" Shen has followed in the footsteps of her father, Dr. Raymond Shen, and became the Chief Engineer of XCOM upon his death. Lily ensures that XCOM's Command Center, the Alien Ship re-named "The Avenger", stays up and running, and has become an expert on merging human and alien technology, a skill which XCOM now relies on for survival. She is also the pioneer on XCOM's "GREMLIN" Drones, which are responsible for many duties in the field for XCOM troops, from hacking terminals to reviving fallen comrades.

Dr. Richard Tygan worked as a biochemist for one of Earth's lucrative pharmaceutical companies before the Alien Invasion. After surviving the war, Tygan was unsure of what to make of himself until ADVENT began opening up "Gene Therapy" clinics across the globe. Indulging his personal curiosities, Tygan offered his services to the ADVENT Administration to help work in the new Gene Therapy Clinics, a duty which readily accepted him. However, as he continued his work, he was increasingly troubled by how ADVENT applied his efforts. He saw increased control being exerted onto the human populace via the Clinics, and once he had received word about XCOM and the rising Resistance movements, Tygan took the opportunity to escape the ADVENT Megacities and begin work for XCOM instead.
The Reapers are one of the three Resistance factions actively hunting The Chosen. Living on the outskirts of ADVENT cities, the Reapers use stealth and trickery to best their opponents. Reapers typically wear hoods and specialized night vision masks in order to conceal themselves, and are armed with Claymore explosives and Vektor Rifles. Led by Konstantine "Volk" Volikov and Elena Dragunova.
They are one of the three Resistance factions that are actively hunting The Chosen. They are former ADVENT soldiers who learned how to remove the chip that connects them to the alien's Central Network. As a result, they have been liberated from the aliens' control and seek independence from them. The Skirmishers are led by Pratal Mox and Betos.
The Templars are a resistance faction that resulted from Psi Operatives from the initial invasion that survived after XCOM's base was assaulted. Since then, the Templars have honed their psionic abilities into their primary armaments and declared independence from XCOM. The Templars are led by a Psionic who goes by "Giest".
The ADVENT Coalition was the global government created by the Elders and the surviving human leaders. Created as a result of the Alien/Human government "Unification" in 2015/2016, ADVENT has run the world for the last 20 years, controlling everything from Large Corporations and the Military to restaurants and major industry. They've created massive megacities for the survivors of the war to live in, and maintained relative peace for many living in their care. However, along with their rule comes strict curfews, state controlled press, and a general abolishment of any civil rights. ADVENT's official voice is a man only known as "The Speaker", who serves as the voice of ADVENT's ruling body, the "Elders", a frail and psionicly powerful alien race which was known to be the leaders of the 2015/2016 Invasion.
They maintain this rule with their Military. Though ADVENT propaganda claims them as an "All-Human Volenteer Force", studies done by XCOM and confirmed by the appearance of the Skirmisher Resistance movement shows that ADVENT's main force is some sort of Human/Alien hybrid, all hooked up to ADVENT's Central Network for orders from their Central Command. ADVENT Propaganda has also gone out of their way to cover up the Invasion, instead insisting that they(AVDENT) came in peace, only to be attacked by "The Old World's Aggressive and Militaristic Governments". All the evidence we need to prove otherwise sits blatantly in the open for us. All we have to do is fly over the ruins of all the old cities that the Aliens bombed into the ground.
The Chosen
The Chosen are the most cunning enemies XCOM has ever faced, each with unique strengths and weaknesses that will adjust as the campaign moves forward. The Chosen are on the hunt for the Commander and will kidnap, interrogate, and kill XCOM's soldiers to complete their objective. The Chosen can also invade the strategy layer and ravage XCOM's global operations. The only way we can defeat them is by working with the other Resistance groups to find and raid the Chosen's strongholds to defeat them for good. There are three Chosen: The Hunter, The Assassin, and the Warlock.
The Assassin uses stealth and trickery to confuse her enemies. Preferring close range combat with her shotgun and sword. she can become invisible, use a blinding grenade; which unlike the flashbang reduces the visible terrain for the blinded soldier, launch an energy wave that will daze any soldier hit. She usually stays away from XCOM until the moment she decides to strike, dazing her target in the process.
The Hunter is a long-range specialist, which uses a sniper rifle to quickly dispatch unaware foes. He usually stays far from XCOM, sending ADVENT Troopers to distract XCOM while he uses a variety of abilities like Tracking Shot; a deadly shot which requires a turn to lock on to kill XCOM soldiers, A grappling hook to allow easy movement across high ground, sleep darts to render XCOM soldiers dazed and ready for capture.
The Warlock is a powerful, psionic specialist warrior that uses tricks and psionic powers to manipulate the battlefield as he wishes. Although all Chosen can and will use psionics, the Warlock uses more diverse powers like doing a chain stun, teleport allies at will, mind control, teleport anywhere on the map or summon Spectral Zombies, which will run at player characters and explode. If the Warlock is unable to use psionics then he can still fight effectively with his assault rifle.
The Lost
The Lost are the victims of the bio-weapons used over the course of the original invasion during Alien Abductions. While the bio-weapons paved the way for ADVENT to clean up and re-create the new city centers, colonization after the invasion is still in progress due to the presence of the Lost in abandoned cities. ADVENT deploys Purifiers in these abandoned cities to clear out The Lost in an effort to salvage resources and reclaim land.
The Lost come in swarms, and they will continue to spawn constantly on missions they appear on. Explosions will cause new swarms to appear faster, as The Lost are sensitive to sound. The Lost also take extra damage from fire-based weaponry.
The Lost are not affiliated to anything besides themselves; they will attack Aliens, ADVENT, and XCOM on missions they appear on if it is more convenient for them to do so.
All Lore and such has been pulled from both my own in-game experience and the XCOM Wiki, which can be found here: http://xcom.wikia.com/wiki/XCOM_Wiki
