Corellia is a planet in the Velpan Rim.

Known for its multispecies population and advanced cargo transportation manufacturing and shipping industries, Corellia is a major hub for heavy industry in the region.

History

First settled by Velpans, Corellia was an industrial centre even then thanks to its rich resources and economically strategic position for the Velpan regime back then due to the Corellian Hyperlane, which now traverses the western part of the Empire. After being conquered by the Ryccian Empire, Corellia was rare among these worlds for having a massive Human migration flow to it due to its industry requiring new manpower as a result of the war.

Corellia continued to boom until the last succession war, which saw various battles, where the planet was contested for its strategic and commercial importance. Due to the civil war, Corellia suffered the greatest economic crisis in its history, and often suffered terrorist attacks and even erupted in a planetary civil war of its own during the last stages of the crisis. During the Democratic Revolution, Corellia ironically recovered, as Imperial forces manufactured small warships in its factories. This did not last, as the democrats took the planet in a surprise invasion. Regardless, over the centuries since, Corellia regained its national prominence once more.

Corellia dominates the shipping and cargo transportation manufacturing industries of its region, in addition to having a presence in the Ryccian market as a whole. Corellian products are said to even be popular from as western as the Chile region to as eastern as The Imperial Rim. Corellia specializes in heavy industry and shipping overall, but also has smaller consumer industry, tourism, mining and agricultural sectors as well. Corellia’s largest shipping conglomerate, the Solo Shipping Group, is so influential in Ryccian trade that it alone controls around 6%-11% of all the trade to and from Daonlathas, the capital, despite hundreds, if not thousands of other shipping companies also competing.

Corellia’s culture and demographics are as mixed as its history: around 42% of the population are Velpans, 41% are Humans (mostly descended from industrial Core and The Rim planets), and the rest are other minorities. Corellia has its own dialects of Velpan and English, alternating from all those around it.

Corellia has some of the best universities of the Empire dedicated to industry. The Industrial College of Corellia, the best Corellia can offer, ranks fourth in all the universities specializing in industry in the Empire, bringing the planet immense prestige. Only two universities in the Core and one from The Rim surpass it, an incredible feat for a planet that was, historically, in a non-Human region.

Geography

Corellia is very Earth-like, but industry has polluted it significantly. Despite this, it has a diverse set of ecosystems. Due to its wealth and good governance, however, the local authorities have tackled the issue effectively, reducing pollution year by year. The poles are miraculously clean due to local policy, as penguin-like creatures, the Avrann, have captivated natives.

Despite the pollution, some of Corellia’s soil is still extremely fertile. This is mainly where the planet’s small agriculture sector is conducted. Corellia also has rich reserves of iron, coal, and metals crucial to starship manufacturing, but they are being depleted due to historical exploitation.

Coronet, Corellia’s largest city, dominates a peninsula as a megalopolis. Some onlookers call it “The Flaming City”, due to the city looking as if that certain portion of the planet is suffering some kind of firestorm from afar. Coronet has 4 billion people, easily holding around a fifth of the population.

Planetary Behaviour and Characteristics

Corellia has a rotation of 25 hours, forcing locals to either rely on the Imperial standard, or use their planet’s hours instead.

Corellia’s orbit is 329 days, forcing locals to rely on the Imperial standard, usually.

Corellia’s atmosphere is also composed of oxygen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and industrial gases.

Corellia is 0.98x times bigger than the Earth.

Satellites

Corellia has four moons, each visible in the night: Selonia, Drall, Tralus, and Talus. They are all smaller than Earth’s Moon, with the biggest, Selonia, only being 25% of the size of it. Interestingly, Selonia is also habitable, but it only has a poultry population of 130,000 colonists mining ores, as the moon is agriculturally barren, but rich in industrial minerals.

Anoreta is a planet in the Farlands.

Known as the “Little Slice of the Core” in the Farlands, Anoreta is an anomaly, as it is as wealthy as a Core world can be. Its immigrants are actually descendents of the aristocracy from mainly the Core, but also some from The Rim, in addition to any workers they brought with them.

History

Anoreta is actually very recent. It was only settled shortly before the Democratic Revolution, when the last autocratic Emperor granted his son, who could not inherit his throne, a planet to make his own. He was given local sovereignty to rule as the Grand Duke of Anoreta, and the current Grand Duchess is a direct descendent of him.

Anoreta became a place of migration for aristocrats and nobles who could not inherit their family’s possessions and power. Seeing the opportunity to have vast agricultural estates and supported by their wealthy families, many moved to the planet. Their workers also migrated, lured by the promising salaries and free real estate. As a result, most of the Empire’s aristocratic and noble lineages have relatives in Anoreta. Some in the Core even see Anoreta as an integral part of their region instead of being another planet in the Farlands due to the planet’s almost identical culture to it.

Due to the last autocratic Emperor’s wishes to make his son a successful ruler, the Imperial government funded the construction of education systems, infrastructure, and economic sectors that are still the envy of many inside and outside the Farlands. Anoretans are known to be excellent professors, outstanding career military officers, successful businessmen and bankers, and superb administrators.

Anoreta is a centre for finance in the Farlands. Its banks have a major stake in Farlands banking, and the Imperial Stock Exchange of Anoreta is the biggest stock exchange in the region. As a result of having agricultural estates worked by (mainly) droids, Anoreta also exports much of its produce, including its famous Anoretan wine. Anoreta’s highly-skilled workforce also excels in Imperial education and administration, as well as in other specialized fields. Anoretans going offworld to provide quality service to other planets in the Farlands is not unheard of. The best university of the region, the Imperial Anoreta University, is located here, and it ranks #102 in the entire Empire, an impressive feat considering that the Farlands is ranked third worst in higher education.

As is expected from a wealthy world, Anoreta also hosts extravagant hotels, casinos, resorts, marinas, malls, and other places of luxury, some of the best in the Farlands. Aristocrats and top officers from the wealthiest regions of the Empire sometimes visit the planet, a stark contrast from the rest of the region. Interestingly, however, Anoreta ban the locals from gambling, pushing its inhabitants offworld if they wish to do so. Moreover, poorer citizens of the planet are granted vouchers and coupons in order to afford the luxuries of the rich in summer, redeemable only in their home planet.

Geography

Anoreta is a lush, beautiful world, dotted with lakes, waterfalls, beaches, forests, and snow mountains, the last being present in high mountain chains or in the fringes of the planet.

Anoreta’s soil is extremely fertile, providing agricultural estates with high crop yields. Anoretan wine is considered crème de la crème in the Farlands and The Imperial Rim, and of “excellent quality” in wealthier regions.

Anoreta has poor mineral resources, however. Mining companies do not invest in the planet often, if at all. Furthermore, environmental regulations set in place to maintain the natural beauty of this world make it almost impossible to turn a profit from any extraction, if at all.

Planetary Behaviour and Characteristics

Anoreta has a rotation of 22 hours, forcing locals to either rely on the Imperial standard, or use their planet’s hours instead.

Anoreta’s orbit is 451 days, forcing locals to rely on the Imperial standard, usually.

Anoreta’s atmosphere is also composed of oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, xenon, helium and krypton.

Anoreta is 0.83x times bigger than the Earth.

Satellites

Anoreta has no satellites. Resorts do make artificial projections of one if their customers wish it, however.

Mandalore is a planet of historical significance in The Rim.

Legendary for the ancient Mandalorian Empire and the capital and origin for the Mandalorian warrior culture, Mandalore has been a historical planet since millenia.

History

Mandalore was founded by mutinous Imperial soldiers and officers, who looked down upon the “softness” of the Emperor at the time. Wishing to create a new “martial, disciplined” society, proud of a warrior tradition.

Over time, Mandalore colonized twenty planets around it, who now form the State of Mandalore, a locally sovereign association of planets. As the Ryccian Empire expanded, it engaged the Mandalorian Empire to conquer its territory. The Ryccians were astonished when Mandalore defeated them in their first war, resulting in the Treaty of Constantinople, which demanded reparations from the Ryccian Empire. Seeing weakness, Mandalore invaded nine years later. In the second war, Mandalore almost overwhelmed the Ryccian Empire, even managing to capture some planets in the Core, a feat that has never been done since by a foreign power. The Ryccians launched a brutal counter-offensive, and the Mandalorians were defeated. The Treaty of Alsain resulted in the reduction of the Mandalorian Empire into a rump state, only holding Mandalore proper. The Mandalorian Commonwealth, as it was forced to be called, incited the Mandalorians to revolt, nearly routing the Empire once more. The Ryccian Empire held on regardless, and they conquered Mandalore with a sadistic fury. Since then, the Mandalorians never revolted in a large scale, albeit the Ryccians just left them alone to prevent an uprising and ruled through allied local leaders.

The Mandalorian clans would continue to survive, providing elite soldiers for the Imperial Army. Their units survive today as the Imperial Mandalorian Army, an army completely made up of Mandalorian recruits. Due to their elite status, they are some of the highest-paid troops in the Empire, and were, historically, at the frontlines of Ryccian conquests.

When the Democratic Revolution finally came, Mandalorian space revolted, but this was crushed initially. It was only when the primary rebellion reached The Rim that they rose up once more, allowing the revolutionaries to win easy victories in these planets (a.k.a. the rebellion swept the floor with the Imperial military there). Moreover, the Imperial Mandalorian Army defected near-entirely to the rebellion, dealing a major blow to the autocratic forces.

Since freedom arrived, Mandalore was granted an enormous amount of autonomy. Self-rule in Mandalore had existed with the Ryccian puppets, but this was their first true taste of self-government in thousands of years. These planets organized themselves into the State of Mandalore, with Mandalore the planet at its center. Unlike most of Ryccia, the ancient Mandalorian system for statecraft has been partially resurrected, with clans and other traditional structures playing an important role in the politics of the Mandalorians. Their “police force”, the Mandalorian Security Forces, is the most armed police force in the entire country, something which has upset some Ryccian politicians over the centuries. The MSF is highly-trained and well-equipped, with some even saying that it could defeat regulars from the Imperial Army itself, but that remains speculation. This has led to calls to forcibly disband the MSF from these politicians, but the government has refused, presumably in order to not risk a war with the lethal Mandalorian forces.

The Mandalorian economy is based on arms manufacturing, military industries, mining, agriculture, vehicle and starship manufacturing and finance. The famous company MandalMotors is found here, producing vehicles and starships. It dominates Mandalorian space and is a fierce competitor in the northeastern Rim, but is otherwise a rare purchase outside these areas. Those who buy from this company outside these regions are usually Mandalorian expats and Mandophiles, but the Imperial Navy is known to engage in business with them for warship construction. They are, reportedly, one of the best builders in quality that the Navy contracts.

Geography

Mandalore is an Earth-like planet and holds various biomes. Among these are its forests, jungles, deserts and grass plains. The north of the planet is characteristic for seeing significant snowfall and bitter cold temperatures. The north is also known to have dense forests, with the native Veshok tree growing in large quantities.

Mandalore has vast iron and construction material reserves. The state actually owns all mines under the Mandalorian Mining Company, as it is wary of non-Mandalorians owning “critical resources”.

Planetary Behaviour and Characteristics

Mandalore has a rotation of 19 hours. Unlike normal worlds, the Imperial standard is unheard of, with locals only relying on Mandalorian time.

Mandalore’s orbit is 366 days. Again, the natives do not use the Imperial standard, instead making use of the Mandalorian calendar.

Mandalore’s atmosphere is also composed of oxygen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, helium, nitrogen, and trace amounts of methane and clouride.

Mandalore is 0.73x times bigger than the Earth.

Satellites

Mandalore has two satellites, Concordia and Beskar. Due to Concordia being a habitable moon with its own native population, it is actually an independent entity, even holding a seat in the Imperial Senate like any other planet. Beskar, however, is uninhabitable, with its only purpose being a mining centre for a special type of iron called Beskar iron, which is nearly indestructible. Beskar is under the jurisdiction of the planet Mandalore.

Walmart is a planet in The Rim.

Walmart is primarily known for its iconic company, Walmart, which operates a chain of retail stores and real estate properties across the Core, The Rim and New Daonlathas.

History

Walmart was initially founded as a private planet of the Mart family, a noble and locally important lineage that still holds the ceremonial title of “Duke/Duchess of Walmart”. Their economy, in their beginnings, was primarily made of agriculture and mining. However, the Mart family invested on their now famous Walmart Company in order to increase their profits, setting business-friendly policies. Their investment worked, and the modern economy of Walmart is centred on this company, as well as finance, agriculture and mining.

During the Democratic Revolution, the Mart family actually refused to get its planet involved in the war, something which enraged the Imperial government. In retaliation, the autocrats nationalized the Walmart Company, causing the Mart family to defect to the rebellion. It was one of the main covert financial backers of the revolutionaries, and today this family is remembered as one of the “Financial Heroes of the Revolution” for their contributions. After the war, the company was returned to the Mart family, and it stills owns it today with a 51% controlling stake. However, the Walmart government proper controls a 30% stake in the company, as it has gradually bought parts of it in the “local interest” of the Walmartian people. Apart from local taxes, some of the profits from the company also go directly to funding the government as a result, giving the locals a luxurious lifestyle comparable to the Core.

Geography

Walmart is a temperate planet. It has a small tourism industry thanks to its lush forests and mountains in the frigid south, but nothing else of note. It looks a lot like Earth in terms of climate, except for the more southern areas, which is colder than the rest of the planet due to the planet’s tilt.

Planetary Behaviour and Characteristics

Walmart has a rotation of 56 hours, forcing locals to either rely on the Imperial standard, or use their planet’s hours instead.

Walmart’s orbit is 11,368 days, forcing locals to rely on the Imperial standard, usually. This is abnormally long for a planet, but the planet’s tilt saves most of it from ~7-8 years of winter. Instead, the more southern regions take the hit, suffering from winter more than the rest of planet.

Walmart’s atmosphere is also composed of oxygen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, xenon, helium, and trace amounts of methane and ammonia.

Walmart is 0.62 x times bigger than the Earth.

Satellites

Walmart has three satellites: Asda, Seiyu and Beprind. None of these are visible during the night.

Josefina Algenia Valois is the Minister of Finance of the Ryccian Empire.

History

Josefina was born on April the 25th, 984 ADR, on the planet of Castiana. Her father descends from the noble Algenia family, one of the noble families of the world, and the mother is from the Valois family, who were of Tigonese commoner origin and became successful businessmen in the planet 600 years ago. As a result, she was born into the Core’s aristocracy, and was given an excellent education.

Despite her early upbringing, an event would change her life forever. At 18, her father became addicted to drugs and gambling, losing almost all their personal fortune. Since traditional aristocratic Core culture has a high degree of pride and honour, she and her family were ostracized from the aristocracy and became poor. This meant that, although she was admitted into the prestigious Imperial Academy at Daonlathas (the best university in the entire Empire to boot), she had to work in university in order to survive, and was shunned by its mostly wealthy alumni. Josefina described this as the “most transformative experience of my life, allowing me to see what the poor truly suffered”.

After finishing university, she went to business school in her native Castiana to obtain an MBA, becoming the first noblewoman in the planet to study completely on need-based and merit-based scholarships in 750 years. She was still shunned by both the Algenia and Valois families, who did not wish to have anything to do with her father. Once more, she had to chip in to survive. To this day, she is considered a political enemy of both families.

She began to work with the planet’s banks and companies when she finished business school, and gained her current wealth when she founded the Algenia-Castavile Group with her now-husband, who she had met at her time in business school. Despite his aristocratic upbringing, Josefina has described him as “very down to earth and humble”, something that may come from his nouveau riche mother. The ACG conglomerate has invested in various industries in the planet and in the Core, with its biggest success being the purchase of the Royelisse Bank, a Castianan bank previously held by the Valois family. She currently owns 47 billion credits in personal wealth.

In 1014, her political career began when she ran for the Governorship of Castiana. Her story is famous on the planet, with her commoner base seeing her not as a noblewoman, but as one of them by her experience. She was famous in her challenge of the then-financially influenced elections which had become manipulated by financial interests for seven decades, but her reasons for running were as much political as personal, as her rival was backed by the Algenia and Valois families. She was elected as Governor, and began the Grand Castianan Reform, conducting anti-corruption campaigns and got money out of politics. She also enacted business-friendly policies that increased the economy of Castiana during her tenure (in the Core, most of the population is business-friendly, so even the "Champion of the People" or whatever don't go and say "screw you business"). For this, she was re-elected.

She ran for Senator in 1022, as her second and final term would end soon. Popular in her home planet, she secured her seat with 60.1% of the vote.

In the Imperial Senate

Josefina was Senator for Castiana. She fought for legislation that would benefit her planet, but also pushed for anti-corruption measures with other Senators and Congressmen, as well as for business-friendly policies in The Imperial Rim, seen as the Final Frontier of the Empire.

In the Internationalist Question, Josefina sided with the internationalists, believing that contact with the unknown would increase trade and economic growth. For this, as well as for her economic knowledge, she rose in prominence in her party, and when the Pacifist Coalition won the elections in 1026, she was re-elected and became a close economic advisor to the new government. Due to a financial scandal involving her predecesor, Josefina was appointed as Minister of Finance of the Ryccian Empire.

As Minister of Finance

Josefina has set economic policy for the Empire since then, becoming known for her business-friendly measures. She opposed the 1028 budget, as, in her eyes, it incurred too much debt for the deficit to be sustainable. In the Empire, the annual budget can be sent back to the legislature by the Minister of Finance, but this can only be done once per budget. As a result, she sent it back, and the legislature passed an amended version with less debt.

Taun Liat Wei is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Ryccian Empire.

History

Taun was born to a poor family in the planet of Arshun, in the region of Chile. Her family was a mining one, with both her father and mother working in the mines of the planet. She was a bright student and earned a fully-funded scholarship to study at Kamino University, the most prestigious higher education institution in the Kaminoan areas of the Ryccian Empire. There, she studied diplomacy and was hired by Chile’s Diplomatic Corps.

Taun proved herself to be a capable negotiator in her first diplomatic encounter. It was a trade dispute between six worlds in her native region. She negotiated the matter with distinction, keeping the peace and efficiently restoring trade between all six planets. She would get involved in various negotiations with criminal gangs, worlds and the like. As a result, she quickly became the Diplomatic Chief of her region, Chile.

She served in this role for ten years. Noted for her skill, she was assigned as Diplomatic Chief of The Imperial Rim.

As Diplomatic Chief of The Imperial Rim

Taun was assigned to The Imperial Rim, the most dangerous and far-flung of all the regions of the Ryccian Empire. Here, criminal syndicates flourish and companies often get into heated disputes with the central government over regulations.

Taun negotiated various peace deals with prominent gangs in the region, ranging from amnesty to a peaceful surrender. Under her mandate, crime in The Imperial Rim fell by 47% due to these successful negotiations. Moreover, she spearheaded negotiations with companies over leases on planetary resources, gaining favour with the central government due to her effective mediation for them.

Taun then returned to Arshun in order to take care of her family, especially her aging parents, voluntarily demoting herself to being Diplomatic Chief of Chile. However, the retiring Senator encouraged her to run. Having his political backing and being popular in her own right due to her prestigious diplomatic position, Taun won her Senatorial seat with 62.5% of the vote.

In the Imperial Senate

Taun sided with agricultural interests, as Arshun is a rural world. As a result, she favours less regulation in the agricultural industry, as well as better standards for farmers.

In the Internationalist Question, she sided with the internationalists, believing that the Ryccian Empire must be safeguarded with an increased and cemented presence abroad. Doing this, she believes, would help secure the Empire’s independence and way of life from foreign powers by knowing about outsiders, and obtain contacts with them for peaceful negotiation as well in the future. Her background as the Diplomatic Chief of The Imperial Rim, a coveted position in the diplomatic corps, was not lost on her party, which won the elections in 1026. Further, she had been a rising star in PC party politics, favouring the current Chancellor and his allies. Seeing her as a good and loyal asset, she was brought into the government as the Minister of Foreign Affairs (and thus in charge of the nation’s internal and external diplomacy), a position which had been lackluster in power until internationalism rose in prominence.

As Minister of Foreign Affairs

Taun’s primary achievement in her tenure has been the recent but successful establishment of contact with the Treecu Star Empire. She sent her close ally, Lak Su, as the leader of the delegation, instructing her to connect with them. As Su is her protegé, the glory of this event has gone to both persons. As a result, Taun was given the peerage of the Baroness Liat for her contributions to the Empire.

Metagaming Facts

Taun would not have ran for the Senate if it were not for the fact that Daonlathas, the capital, has far better medical care and quality of life for her elderly parents. Moreover, she wished to educate her children in the capital, which has superb educational facilities compared to the backwaters she had been in. She still does her job, however.

Unlike many Kaminoans, she (privately) has a massive ego, something which arose from her natural intelligence and her rise to the top. She thus saw herself as incredibly successful and intelligent, inflating her self-esteem enormously.

Ferul Blesforn was the Chancellor of the Ryccian Empire.

History

Ferul was born in Valetta, into the prestigious Blesforn political dynasty. His mother, Lupan Blesforn, was a Congresswoman, Senator for Valetta, Governor of Valetta, and Vice-Minister of Justice of the Empire. His father, although coming from a less prestigious family, was still a descendant of a family politically prominent enough to meet the Blesforns.

As a result of his political lineage, Ferul, along with his siblings, was instructed in the family ways since his youth. He received an excellent education and was admitted to the Imperial Academy at the capital, the most prestigious university in the entire country. After returning from his studies at Daonlathas, he studied in the Valetta School of Law and became a successful lawyer in his own merit, earning millions in his early 20s.

Ferul became a prosecutor in his late 20s, and quickly rose to the position of Chief Prosecutor of his homeworld. As his political blood demanded of him, he rose up the ranks of his party’s hierarchy and became an Imperial Congressman for The Pacifist Coalition.

As Imperial Congressman

Ferul became a Congressman at the age of 36. He was incredibly charismatic, distinguishing himself in Congressional debates and earning seats on several committees. His spotlight came when he was on a Congressional panel questioning a controversial nominee for the Imperial National Supreme Court of Justice. As a result, he gained national attention for ruining the chances of Karl Miseltine from earning the seat due to his effective interrogation for the Congressional Judicial Committee, something which earned him prestige in his home world of Valetta.

As Governor of Valetta

Ferul ran a successful campaign to become Governor of Valetta. As his family name carries weight in the planet, he was favoured in his own party and with the people, earning 57.9% of the vote. His tenure oversaw a crackdown on corruption, social and economic reforms and increased economic growth, something that made him popular and earned him his second term with 60.1% of the vote. There remains debate if the economic growth was engineered by Ferul, or if it was his predecessor’s work after a financial slowdown of the world which made him unpopular.

In the Imperial Senate

Ferul was then elected to the Senate after his two terms as Governor were up. As his reign was popular, he was elected with 62.4% of the vote.

Ferul has fought for more fiscal and political autonomy for individual worlds, financial reform, increased spending and for a more lenient national penal code. His eloquence in the Imperial Senate and political talent distinguished him as one of the most influential Senators in the nation. His rise to the top was swift, as he was nominated and confirmed as Minister of the Interior in 1023 after the previous one tragically died of a heart attack. After he was the executive candidate for the Pacifist Coalition in the 1026 elections, he was able to become Chancellor.

As Chancellor of the Ryccian Empire

Ferul has preceded over a tenure of increased spending and economic growth. In the Internationalist Question, he sided with the internationalists, believing that amicable contact with the outside world will save the Empire in the future. His most recent triumph is the successful establishment of relations with the Treecu Star Empire, marking the first time in thousands of years that the Ryccian Empire has contacted a foreign state.

Metagaming Facts

Ferul is, in reality, a clever murderer and serial blackmailer. He has threatened his political opponents and covertly ran smear campaigns against them. However, as soon as he has them cornered, he does not get them to withdraw right away. Rather, his preferred method of attack is forcing his compromised political rivals to campaign ineffectively and make serious political mistakes in lieu of outright resignation or “death by natural causes”. The death of the Minister of the Interior before him is a prime example, as it was actually an orchestrated murder after she refused to keep obeying him anymore, threatening to report him to the police and thus blackmail him. Ferul bribed her cook and utilized an obscure poison that would cause a heart attack. Since the capital had no knowledge of this secret substance and the ex-Minister already had heart complications, the death seemed natural to the authorities that examined her. This fact is unknown to most people, even to a majority of his Cabinet. Some senior politicians who are not aware do have suspicions after analyzing his political career, but nothing more, and usually dismiss the idea.

The rise of his Finance Minister, Josefina Algenia, was also a political scheme, as he saw the Finance Minister preceding her as a political enemy. A minor benefit would be pleasing his Core allies, as the politicians of that region favour her. He engineered the scandal that ousted the previous Minister and replaced him with Josefina.

What is secret to everyone but his wife are his true intentions for advancing politically. He is planning to reveal all of his crimes and misdeeds at the end of his life to finally bring down the Blesforn name and other prominent political families, as he has actually hated his family and politics all along for robbing him of his chance to have a normal life and for corrupting the people. In his death, his wife shall publish all the political information he has ever known to the public, forever tarnishing his lineage and the entire Ryccian political class.

Julius Carlius Argonte is the Minister of Agriculture of the Ryccian Empire.

History

Julius was born in Constantinople, to a Latinoid family (or one of the few noble families that utilizes Latin as a language). Only Constantinople and the capital, Daonlathas, have any Latinoid nobility left, as the ancient art of using Latin as an aristocratic language becomes rarer and less prestigious. Despite this, the Latinoid families are wealthy and exclusive, with the Latinoid community being selective of whom they associate with. Julius actually knows the current Emperor as one of his childhood friends from school (aristocrats do have the option of sending their kids to school in the capital, and they do that sometimes), and thus is one of the few Cabinet members that really takes the Emperor seriously, and the only one that is his friend.

Befitting his status, he got to study at the elite Constantinople University, the 8th most prestigious higher education institution in the country and then attended business school. As his family has vast agricultural holdings, he studied business management and agricultural science, and held senior positions involving food quality and management in the Carlius Agricultural Group, his family’s company.

Julius has actually never held political office before becoming part of the Cabinet. He was given the role of Minister of Agriculture due to his skill in his family’s agricultural company. His appointment is thought to be an attempt by the Chancellor to show off a semblance of technocratic values to his constituents, and thus Julius is the only Cabinet member who does not belong to any party whatsoever.

Metagaming Facts

Julius is usually the mediator between the Chancellor and the Emperor due to his friendship with the latter. This is one of the secret reasons why he was actually appointed to the Cabinet.

The Imperial House of Charlotte is an important historical noble house of the Ryccian Empire.

History

The Charlottes were first established over 4,000 years ago, after the sister of the Emperor of that time, Charlotte, was granted the title of “Grand Duchess of Constantinople”. She was the first Governor of the new colony of Constantinople, which was the first planet Ryccia colonized after Daonlathas.

Over the centuries, the non-hereditary descendants of this house were given lesser noble titles. As a result, almost all of the local nobility in Constantinople are actually cadet branches of the House of Charlotte or are otherwise related to them in some way, and they look up to them with great esteem.

Even after the family left the official post of Governor of the planet, the House of Charlotte continued to be influential, being one of the main political families at the autocratic Imperial Court, having many military and political positions, and holding various businesses and assets in their home world and abroad. The family owns significant stakes in major investments, banks and companies of the Core and elsewhere under the Imperial Charlotte Group, one of the wealthiest companies in the Ryccian Empire. Moreover, some Charlottes continue the now-defunct tradition of enlisting in the military as officers, but with the fully meritocratic system in place, they are not as common as they were in the higher ranks thousands of years ago.

The family has distant relatives and noble possessions in other planets in the Core. The House of Charlotte-Anoreta in the planet of Anoreta in the Farlands is the only official branch of the family that lives outside the Core and that regularly interacts with the main house. All other relatives are illegitimate, descendants of expelled members in the past, descendants of migrants to far-flung regions of the Empire, and/or migrated so far in antiquity that these cadet branches have no relation to them anymore.

Although most of its cadet branches have dropped this tradition, the Charlottes continue to be one of the few Latinoid families that exist. The Latinoids are noble families that practice the ancient literary art of utilizing the Latin language, and this aristocratic custom is fading into irrelevance nowadays.

Trivia

The Charlottes are some of the closest friends of the Arzix family, the Royal Family of the Empire. This is due to their ancestral ties dating back millennia. Due to the fact that these two houses are so distantly related by blood in the present, the Arzix and the Charlottes are known to marry each other.

Marcus Corelinus Snou is the Director of the Imperial Anti-Corruption Agency of the Ryccian Empire.

History

Marcus was born as an illegitimate child of the noble Corelinus family of the Core and to the poor Snou family. His mother had a love affair with the father, a noble who had been assigned to the planet of Antperren as the Commander of the Light of Justice, a cruiser of the local garrison. He was never publicly acknowledged as part of their family until much later, but he was able to live a modest middle-class lifestyle due to the covert financial support of his father.

Growing up, Marcus never knew his father, and was confused on why his mother did not work and instead took care of him whilst being able to live a good life compared to his friends. The father, Antonius Corelinus, although refusing to acknowledge him publicly, still wished for his son to have a good childhood, and thus convinced his mother to be a stay-at-home mom so she can take care of him full-time. As she loved her son, she wanted this anyway, so she accepted.

Marcus grew up with the “Snou” surname only, but he was told the truth at 18 years of age covertly by his own father, who wished to see him in private. Noting his immense intelligence, Antonius agreed to secretly fund his education in the Core worlds. For a person from a far-flung area of the Empire, he did incredibly well, entering Thurvel University in the capital, the ninth most prestigious university in the country.

In his college years, Marcus was an oddity, speaking with his Far Northern (OOC: Afrikaans) accent and being from a place so far from the Core. The wealthy aristocratic students thought little of him in general, despite him experiencing a lifestyle that matched theirs due to his father’s support. As a result, he was often the richest amongst his friends, who were mostly members of Thurvel’s outer alumni population (“outer” refers to any pupils who are not from an aristocratic background and/or that are from outside the Core and The Rim). He got involved in campus leadership, becoming President of the Thurvel Outer Association, a student organization that promotes outer interests and increased contact between inner and outer students.

After graduating from Thurvel University, his superb grades qualified him to go to the Imperial Academy’s law school, the best of its kind in the Empire. Unlike most of his classmates, he did not stay in the Core. Instead, he went back home, founding a law firm. Due to being the most educated lawyer in the planet despite being a complete novice, his business took off, never losing a case in over twenty years. He was especially beloved in his planet and the region when he went out of his way to represent the poor against wealthy defendants or appellants, albeit he was known to represent companies as well in his career. It is at this time when he met his wife, a middle-class teacher and tutor that he defended against a mining baron that accused her of stealing money from his home.

He provided legal consulting to the local government at Antperren. Due to his expertise, fame as a defender of the poor and growing political connections, Corelinus became the planetary Minister of Justice. It is now widely believed that his appointment was a move for the government to make themselves popular with the people after barely winning re-election, but this tactic would cost the incumbents dearly. The new Minister aggressively attacked local corruption, investigating and/or prosecuting several prominent politicians, even some Cabinet members. His removal by the Governor incited worldwide protests, forcing the leader to reinstate him to his former post.

Earning significant public approval, Marcus ran for Governor of his homeworld, securing the position with 62% of the vote. He famously eradicated corruption in his two terms, and his extermination was regarded as a model for the region of The Edge as a whole. When his tenure ended, he ran for Senator.

In the Imperial Senate

As Senator, Marcus was a vocal opponent of corruption. He was also a proponent of economic policies that would benefit poorer worlds like his. It was here that some greedier members of the Corelinus family got wind of his true origins, and tried to connect with him in order to create political links. This backfired, as Marcus exposed these attempts at obtaining influence (in the Core, blood links are valued and held sacred far more than in faraway regions, which tend to have far less aristocratic blood and customs). Due to this revelation, he was officially granted the noble titles he was supposed to be born with.

He was seen in a better light by the wealthier Senators from the Core after the incident, as the Corelinus lineage is a cadet branch of the powerful Imperial House of Charlotte. This entitled Marcus access to exclusive galas and other social gatherings of the nobility as a cadetist from the Charlottes. Despite this preferential treatment and constant invitations from Charlotte nobles and cadetists, he seldom went to any, only attending if it was politically advantageous. In an autobiography recently released, he was disgusted by this elitism that had lifted his status, being repulsed by the fact that it was only his origin of noble blood that improved his ties with Core Senators, who previously saw him as “another Senator from some backwater”, or so he put it.

After serving in the Senate and several anti-corruption committees for fourteen years, he was nominated by the outgoing government to head Ryccia’s Imperial Anti-Corruption Agency. It is now thought that the exiting party did this out of spite to their rivals to create chaos among their ranks and to make themselves look good, as Corelinus is an excellent investigator and prosecutor against corruption.

As Director of the Imperial Anti-Corruption Agency

Marcus has lived up to his reputation, being a potent force against corruption in the Imperial government. He has earned praise from various parts of the citizenry and the Emperor. The Director is the only major official the Emperor formally supports. In fact, when several legislators attempted to remove him from his post, the Emperor threatened to use his constitutional powers to veto such an idea, the first time any Emperor has dared to use their constitutional power outside of formal ceremony in centuries. The Emperor is so delighted with him that he granted the ceremonial title of Grand Duke of his homeworld, a title that officially increases his prestige amongst the nobility to a significant degree. Having the patronage of the Imperial throne and some politicians, Corelinus is able to investigate with practical political impunity, caring not whether the elite shall be furious.

Facts

The reason Marcus became a lawyer and prosecutes corruption with an unrelenting passion has been his experience with a past Governor of his homeworld, who influenced the proceedings of a sexual assault to protect his son. The victim was a cousin of his, and he vowed to chase any abuse of power if he had the chance. His encounter with corrupt Corelinus relatives only added fuel to the fire, as he remains livid that they tried to use his bloodline like hypocrites, as aristocratic culture in the Core harshly shames extramarital affairs and having children out of wedlock.

Despite being a commoner, his wife, Sarah Kielfam, is known to regularly attend the galas and parties Marcus is invited to in order to entertain herself. She has become a tad of a socialite amongst the Charlotte nobles and cadetists despite her origins. She is known to be friends with the Minister of Finance, Josefina Algenia, after befriending her at a gala of all the prominent nobles and cadetists of the Imperial Houses of the Core held every four years, to which Marcus was invited but did not attend.
