[PASSED] Amendment to Articles 1 and 2 of the Elections Act (Election Commission)
#11

Rather than remove both extras why not demote one of the positions into something akin to an assistant so that spare position can be used train and expand the pool for ECs?

There's not really anything to train here. It's a matter of creating the sub-forum, then mostly just copy/pasting a few threads with names and dates. The hardest part is the result, and that's mostly just counting.

The problem is that the other two are basically pointless, and are almost never needed or used. Then the restrictions on who can do it (you can neither hold most offices nor run for them) mean the list of available options from trusted people in the region is fairly limited, and makes those options change every election. The limited and greatly varying options makes choosing names in advance difficult, and the fact they are never used means noone sees a point in trying to fill them.

I agree with what Farengeto is saying.

That being said, I'm not really familiar with what Hileville did during coup. How corruptible is the system? From what I can tell, there is not much to corrupt. Anyone can see the votes. I fail to see the trouble in having only one EC.

I don't have experience in this area, though, so if someone could explain how Hileville corrupted the process I'd be grateful. I'm assuming that's the main argument against a single EC.

The issue @Ausstan is that private votes do occur. So one could misrepresent private votes.
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Oh, obviously. Forgot about that.

Wow, I just made myself look like an idiot.

Anyway, I still believe that having one EC is the best choice. Also, Frost made an interesting point about an assistant. I think that is a decent idea. That could make corruption much harder.

That's not quite accurate. What happened the last time Hileville served as EC is the following:

He was overseeing the March 2015 MoFA Election, between Glen and Wolf. They ended up being tied, and the only vote that could make a difference was that of an individual whose citizenship was under dispute. They had failed to meet the requirements, but hadn't been removed yet. That led to the question: did someone lose citizenship the moment they failed to meet the requirements, or when the relevant official actually removed their citizenship?

Hileville initially decided to hold the results and submit a LQ to the Court. Following some controversies, he withdrew the question, declared that the ambiguous citizen's vote was invalid, and gave the election to Wolf.

The criticism is that his job was to run the election, not decide who was or wasn't a citizen, particularly when he'd submitted a LQ, indicating that he didn't believe he was empowered to make that determination by himself.

The Court decided the valid was valid, I believe.

Then we should figure out ways to expand that limited pool of trusted people.

If Kris doesn't object to the extra work, I'd say just make the PJ the EC.

Another option is to make the Legislator Committee the poor bastards who have to deal with it.

Final option; I'm happy to be the new Feirmont on this, considering I have zero intention to run for anything.

There's not really a way to "expand" it. The list is basically people the CRS trusts won't try to rig or otherwise corrupt an election. But again the main issue is that they're never needed. They're literally never used, so nobody wants to bother with the hassle of appointing them.

Like Bel, I'm pretty sure I'm done running for positions and was planning to offer myself up as a new Feirmont, as well.
