[IC] Stories of the Imperial Navy
#1

14:57 Hours
Sennun System, Wild North

"Admiral, we are approaching the Sennun Asteroid Belt, where the Gayongo Pirate Clan are rumoured to be hiding"

The Imperial Navy was doing its routine job of rooting out piracy in lawless regions. This time, it was the Sennun System, in the notorious Wild North. A fleet of 5 Star Destroyers (4 Imperial-Class, 1 Resurgent-Class), 2 Interdictors, 3 Cruisers, 1 Corvette and 2 Frigates arrived, set to destroy this pirate organization. This was technically the military acting on behalf of the police, so it was a police action, not a military attack that the Senate would have to approve.

The Gayongo Pirate Gang had been dealt a series of defeats after the Navy came to the aid of local security forces. Now, their remaining fleet was said to be hidden here, and as they would not surrender, they would have to be destroyed.

"Thank you, Lieutenant. Send TIE Vigilators to scout the area"

"Yes, sir"

TIE Vigilators surveyed the area, and found the remaining fleet of pirates: a single cruiser, and a...no, that cannot be right...

"Sir! We have spotted their fleet! They contain a Aurotiye-T6 Cruiser, and a Venator-Class Starfighter Carrier!"

"A what?!"

A military vessel?! How could this be?!

No time for thought.

"Sir, enemy fighters incoming! TIE Fighters in different coloration!"

"How many?!"

"Around 40 TIEs, mostly TIE Fighter models! One TIE Imperial and two TIE Interceptors can be confirmed, Admiral!"

"Send 200 TIEs! At once!"

"Yes, Admiral"

The order was given. 200 of the 500 TIEs under the command of the fleet were scrambled to fight. 130 TIE Fighters, 30 TIE Interceptors, 20 TIE Imperials, 15 TIE Imperial Plus, and 5 TIE Silencers were ordered to attack the enemy.

The Admiral now ordered the fleet.

"All ships, open fire on the enemy fleet! Do not destroy the Venator-Class Starfighter Carrier, we need the ship alive! Lieutenant, send Imperial Marines to board the enemy flagship"

"Yes, Admiral"

15:20 Hours
Gayongo Pirate Fleet

"Damnit, damnit! The Navy's here! Their damned Interdictors won't let us go!"

That is the pirate leader, Jazumong Gayongo. A Velpan of the Velpan Rim region, he got engaged in smuggling and piracy in the Wild North.

"M'lord, Imperial Marines are boarding the ship!"

"Curse the Imperials! Damn them! Resist! We can't get captured!"

"M'lord, we can always escape in the escape pods..."

"You cursed grunt! They'll find us anyway! Better to die fighting than to let them arrest us! Man the guns, men!"

"Yes, sir!"

The Venator's turbolaser turrets and laser cannons began to fire at the enemy. Jazumong knew it was a hopeless stand. But it was a last stand. If he's going to get beaten, he'll take some Imperials with him.

He'll take the secret to his grave.

15:53 Hours
Sennun System

"Admiral, we have destroyed the enemy cruiser, all enemy TIEs, and we have disabled the opposing flagship"

"How many casualties?"

"7 TIEs, sir. None of the ships in our fleet were damaged beyond repair. Only the Imperial-Class Solarium had a turbolaser turret destroyed. Other ships had batteries and armour damaged, but nothing of note"

"Good. Send the report to the Sennun Police Department. I wish to board the enemy Venator. Get me a shuttle"

"Yes, Admiral"

16:10 Hours
Gayongo Pirate Flagship

The Admiral landed in the ship, protected by Imperial troops. All the pirates that had surrendered or had been captured were paraded in front of him, so he could interrogate them.

"...So, you are the last of the Gayongo. Who is the leader?"

"W-we wo-won't tell...!"

"I see. Marine Commander?"

"Yes, Admiral?"

"Kill him"

"But, sir, we have a policy of imprisonment! We cannot kill prisoners!"

"This is a special matter, Commander. These thugs have stolen a military ship, and none will tell a word! If we must make an example, we shall. Now, kill him"

Desperation set in. The pirate didn't want to die. Like most individuals in this world, he is a coward to lethal force.

"No, okay, I'll talk! Please!"

"I see. Do not kill him"

"It's him! The Velpan over there! Jazumong!"

"I see. Take this "Jazumong" for questioning"

"Yes, Admiral"

16:32 Hours
Gayongo Pirate Fleet

“Alright, Commander, I leave this to you. I wish to receive the results of the interrogation with haste”

“Yes, Admiral”

Jazumong had been captured by force. He had tried to fight off the Imperial Marines, but he had ran out of ammunition, and was hit so badly by a soldier that he briefly became unconscious. When he came to, he was restrained, and a prisoner of the Empire.

What he saw was an Inquistion. Three men, one local investigator and two armed soldiers, stood to his opposing side.

Jazumong did not flinch in the slightest.

“Let us see...damnit, the files are out of order...ah! Here! You are the rumoured Jazumong, the leader of the Gayongo Pirate Fleet. Can you understand us?”

Jazumong knew this was protocol: he knew Austral, for the darned spirits. Still, to follow the ritual, he was obliged to respond.

“Yes”

Well, this is fun. Another check on the list. Now a translator won’t be brought, and that means less paperwork. The arduous quest of interrogating this...fox, whatever, begins.

It is clear that the local investigator is apathetic and gloomy. Recent strikes left the planetary government to punish the police by slashing their wages, demoralizing the force even more.

“Sigh...alright, let’s start”

The investigator questioned him on his known crimes, his career, etc. This was, again, a mere formality. Jazumong was caught, and he had honour. The Gayongo Pirates were not only known for their crimes, but also for their honour. When they can’t fight on anymore, they usually confess to most of their crimes. And so, Jazumong did. Heist after heist, smuggling after smuggling, raid after raid, you name it.

But there was something that not even the spirits could get out of him.

“Okay...let me write this down...alright. Next question: where did your gang get the Venator-class starship? This is a military vessel, exclusive to the Imperial Navy alone. How did you obtain this vessel?”

“I refuse to comment”

“Tell us. You are defeated, done. According to these reports, your pirate fleet has suffered loss after loss to our armed forces, reducing your ships to the mere handful you fought with. Tell us, where did this ship come from?”

“I refuse to comment”

“...Very well. Let’s up this to an eleven. Do you know what happens when you are tried in a military court?”

“No, sir”

“Of course not, it rarely happens. But the military has a different code from civil laws, and when it or one of its personnel is involved as a victim or aggressor, military courts are used. Those found guilty often receive a penalty...the death penalty. But, if you confess, your jail sentence might be halved at best, and skimmed at least. In a truly best case scenario, you might receive amnesty. Now, shall you talk and/or negotiate?”

“I refuse to comment. I refuse to negotiate”

Such was the honour of the Gayongo, that, when they shall not talk, they won’t. Recruits, of course, like the one that had betrayed his leader, did not adopt this quickly. Only the regular crew members held this to heart, as they had integrated to the gang.

“...The Admiral. You, soldier, get me through with him”

“Yes, sir”

The investigator got authorization to utilize “unorthodox” methods of interrogation. You see, unlike the Admiral, who cared for the mystery of the stolen craft, the investigator wanted the case done fast, so he could get a much needed bonus, and even a pay raise. It was crucial to feed his family.

“You will talk. At once”

“I refuse to comment”

“Very well. Soldiers!”

The two soldiers at his shoulders prepared their weapons, pointing at Jazumong. Unlike most masculine organisms, Jazumong never cowed.

“...So be it. Shoot me”

“Oh, this won’t be your death, fiend. It will be torture”

“.....Foolish investigator”

“How insulting! Now you shall crack. Soldiers, begin electrocution!”

The soldiers withdrew their blasters, and took out their electro-sticks. Together, they began to hit Jazumong, both hitting and shocking this leader of bandits.

After five minutes of a continued barrage of hits that struck true, a calm.

“Halt! Shall you talk?”

“...I-I-I’l-ll ne-ne-ve-ver ta-talk…urgh…”

“I see. Soldiers, continue!”

“...Sir…”

“I have command over you. The Admiral authorized it, all responsibility shall fall on him. Now, soldiers, follow my orders, or it will be considered a mutiny!”

“...”

The soldiers renewed their offensive. For another five minutes, they attacked. Bolts of lighting harassed the criminal’s body.

“Halt, again! This is enough. He shall not crack at all. The suspect is almost dying. Now, will you talk? Will you negotiate?”

“...Ugh...N-no…”

“Hmm...did you, in case, purchase this ship?”

“I-I...re-re-fu-fuse…”

“You have, have you not?”

“N-n...ngh…”

“Accept it: you are beaten. You are truly beaten. You have fought with distinction, but you are beaten. Confess, now”

“I-I-I...con-con...fess…”

As Jazumong fainted from his severe injuries, he was allowed to recover. The Admiral quickly worked to sweep this incident under the rug, reporting an “edited” version of the events. As Jazumong went to trial, he opened the largest corruption case in recent military history. One of the shipbuilding companies that supplied the Empire was getting into financial turmoil, and, to make a quick buck, they secretly manufactured military vessels for criminal organizations. The mystery of the origin of some pirate and overall gangster fleets having military-exclusive vessels was solved. For his actions, the Admiral was commended, and Jazumong got a partial amnesty, only serving a three-year house arrest at his native planet for his valuable information.

Even when, several years later, the cruel actions at the interrogation room were revealed, the Admiral was practically pardoned, since the Government opted to not even bother with opening a case.

And what happened to the investigator? He did, indeed, get his bonus, and fed his family. And his life as the average working Joe continued. But, when it was revealed that he used torture at his interrogation, he was demoted in shame, becoming an assistant investigator again.

Let us climb the stairs again...

Empty Space, [CLASSIFIED]
Somewhere in the Ryccian Empire

This specific spot in space was devoid of any major astrographical bodies.
A star? No.

Planets? Asteroids? Anything remotely important? Absolutely not.

This place was a secret military installation. It was top secret, and only the highest ranks in the armed forces had access to it.

To the beholder, it may seem inconsequential. It was a space station in the middle of nowhere. However, this was were the military's most controversial experiments were carried out.

A mixed staff of clones and droids manned the station. It was protected by a Star Destroyer, two light cruisers, five corvettes and 400 TIE starfighters of different classes. Maintaining this spot cost a fortune, but one the military would happily bear.

Here, right next to the station proper, a deadly weapon of unimaginable magnitude was being constructed in space. It was in the shape of a Star Destroyer, yes, but the key difference was the powerful antimatter cannon in its hull. The Omega-class Star Annihilator, as this unique ship was called, was being built in secret. In order to avoid any public oversight of the titanically powerful weapon, it was being manufactured here, in the middle of nowhere. Should the people find out about this ship, it would be catastrophic for the military.

A transport shuttle arrived in this remote location. It was a high-ranking official, and as the ship docked in the station, he was greeted by the station's director, a Vurbentan by the name of Klixo Nakta.

"Ah, Director Krennic, what an honour it is for you to visit us"

"Spare me the pleasantries, let's get to business. What's the status of Project Stardust?"

"Sir, as you can see by your window, we are nearly finished with the construction of Project Stardust. Entity X-4 is operational"

"Very well, test it"

"Huh?"

Just as if it was on cue, an aging Star Destroyer jumped out of hyperspace. It was due for decommissioning, and thus it could prove useful in its last days as a test dummy.

"Configure Entity X-4 to fire at 1% of its power against the target. When it's ready, fire at my command"

"Very well. Station to Stardust! Station to Stardust! Commence charging at 1%!"

The Star Annihilator began charging its cannon. As the power required to fire was miniscule compared to the cannon's capibilities, it was charged in fifteen seconds.

"Director, Stardust here, cannon is primed and ready"

"Sir", Director Nakta said, "the cannon is-"

"Fire!"

"Commence primary ignition!"

"Understood"

The axial superlaser fired a single particle at the derelict. As the supercharged antimatter particle hit the ship, the destructive energy hit the generator. It was ripped into tiny pieces, and thus it was completely destroyed.

The energy released from that explosion was so great that it sent a shockwave that reached the station, causing an "earthquake" of sorts.

"My stars!...Director Krennic, sir, take cover!"

The blast dissipated. The Imperial guards protecting the Director of Imperial Navy's Techology, Orson Krennic, shielded him, as was protocol, but nothing serious occured.

The test was successful. The Empire now had a weapon of catastrophic magnitude. A planet-killer. To protect the Empire from any threats from hostile savages with such an armament of similar scope, the Empire must be able to respond.

It was now complete. The Omega-class Star Annihilator was to remain in this classified military base in order to conceal it from public view. If the Senate and the Congress got wind of this vessel, they would order it destroyed immediately.

The weak-willed political class cannot be permitted to know. The Empire must be preserved, forever.
