A Mermaid for MoRA
#1

Hai Smile

I started out in this region making events, quizzes, spotlights, games and roleplays (some of which I put together before I even signed up to be a legislator).

In fact, regardless of my position I’ve always believed that culture is the right of every TSPer and should be incorporated into every ministry. Building culture builds community and I have tried to nourish and build TSP culture through events such as the Game of Thrones Festival and the Harry Potter and the Festival of Friends event. In addition, I also started Mermaid Tales, a cultural and themed journal that reports on SPSF activities. I'll always try to help members of our community who want to build and develop TSP culturally.

With each event or game or festival, I’ve learned things - especially how to improve upon events for players of a browser based game. At this point, this is what I’d like to see happen for RA:

1. Themed events that tie people’s interests outside of NS to their interests in the game. The Game of Thrones event showed how connections could be made between real life passions and intertwined with NS. The Harry Potter and the Festival of Friendship: Year One was one of the most successful events across NationStates in terms of attendees, activities, events, and participation. These events provide a venue to build TSP’s image as a creative, inspiring, and socially adept region as well as give our members a chance to meet and mingle and enjoy themselves. Future themes that I would like to plan around include Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.

2. Support for journalism. For many NSers the idea of writing articles is daunting process and journalism has not always been consistent in TSP. Therefore, I’d like to get a sense of what people are interested in reading and writing about through a formal survey as well as through discussions noted in various channels and threads and ask people to write as well as help them get the support they need. There’s so much knowledge and experience TSPers have and I think that journalism could be a way to showcase it.

3. Life is About Improvement. Every time I try something new, I learn something but even when I try things I already have done I learn ways to improve the process. So with each role the process improves such as using Google docs for planning and outlining or giving festival attendees the chance to take lead on spontaneous events.

I love TSP, it’s my home in a way that I could never have imagined it would be when I first joined and thought the most exciting thing was answering issues. I can do great things to build TSP culture and would love your support Smile

xoxo,
Escade

At the moment, the RA Discord is in part structured almost like a job board, in that there are roles assigned to people depending on the things they could do (for example Proofreader, Creative, Journalist, etc.); would you keep this system and if so change anything about it?

1. Have you ever drank Baileys from a shoe?
2. What's your favorite type of shoe?
3. Summer Olympics of Winter Olympics?

I think the RA Discord needs a little streamlining so I would like to organize it so that is a bit easier to navigate.  I like the job board idea and would finesse it in these ways:
1) a central job location that clarifies what tasks\positions are available and what skills and time or timeline they require,
2) differentiating between those who have skills and those who are looking for skills\mentorship as well as providing more details about what the volunteers can do (for example what does creative include and maybe finessing categories)
3) having more cross support between people (such as having a writer work with an artist to write tutorials for those interested in learning skills but not quite there yet)

1. Shoes are for admiring, wearing, collecting and occasionally throwing at a person Tounge
2. My favorite type of show depends on the season and outfit. Currently its ankles boots as they are a nice "winter to spring" boot plus look cute with way many outfits.  I also really love rose gold heels, flats and basically a lot of the nude shade shoes because pretty.

3. Summer or Winter Olympics?  I love summer, like absolutely and utterly love.  Fave Olympic sports: swimming (summer) and ice skating (winter).

1. You speak about “a venue to build TSP’s image” in your campaign — does this mean that you would plan to promote TSP’s regional affairs on GP or to the wider world more? Do you believe you would be able to accomplish this without causing further drama?
2. In the recent past, the ministry’s journalism has suffered from a lack of articles produced on time or produced at al (even if they sign up as interested in the first place). Even if you can gauge people’s demand for journalism, how would you plan to handle his problem and encourage people to write and write on time?
3. Do you have any plans for any cultural events besides festivals?
4. How would you specifically include gameside in your plans as MoRA?
5. In the past, you’ve recently had terms as both MoFA and MoMA. What were two specific things you did in those terms which you regret and would change now, and how do those affect the way you would act as MoRA?
6. Given you were completely absent and didn’t bother to help out on our most recent MoRA event, TLA, why can we expect you to be active as Minister on events which you personally do not run?

1. It's a venue to build TSP's image both with the region or regions we plan with and as well with people watching us. I think this term has seen a lot of awesome statements in GP regarding events.  In fact, even when a self-proclaimed instigator started trying to create trouble about the HP Festival most of us kept our heads cool. In fact, I'm proud to say I've grow a lot with GP responses particularly to trolls or people who try to play both sides and therefore are on neither.

So, getting back to the question at hand - feedback from people in regions where we post about events, even if we aren't in relationship with them, has been "TSP is creative" or "TSP is active" which is part of it.

2. This is an interesting issue - the last few terms have seen an absolute decline in journalism even with people in the ministry like yourself who claim to be interested in writing and producing writing related items. Therefore, what is the gap there?  Is it the type of articles? The length? The subjects?  Since you were an allegedly active member of RA, as an insider, what do you feel the issues are? Was it the MoRA's you worked under or?  I welcome honest, valid and non petty criticism Smile

3. For example? What cultural events have you been a part of outside of festivals that you enjoy? I've hosted the inter-regional games as well as an expo.  Part of RA is meeting the interests of people so if there is interest and activity....

4. Interesting question since there's an LC and you and at least one other former LC member are very concerned about people undercutting other positions. I would not undercut the LC in any way and continue to do what I do on the RMB which is provide information, invites, and promotions.

5. I think with MoFA, I've had two terms and some things that I started in my first term as MoFA only have born fruit now. So I think more patience that things will develop would be one thing from there. With MoMA, the structure was very different but one thing that I regret is not finding a capable and active person to train for the position after I left. I think one goal as a minister is to always try to help someone take lead and there were a dearth of good candidates for SPSF.

6. I'm quite interested in that phrasing. The MoRA himself was barely present and active in that event? Is that a criticism of MoRA?

Is this a critique of MoRA or are you asking me why I, as MoMA, didn't do the job that the actual head of the ministry was responsible for?   That seems a bit petty so see the previous point. You can disagree with someone politically without being petty.

I feel that your understanding that only MoRA can run or organize events is very limiting to talented people and its definitely one I'm against.  Other ministers may definitely ask me for help and if I have the time and resources I will try but are free to also run their own events without interference or someone trying to control them.

Here's my clear and valid statement: MoRA is not the controller of all regional events. They are a resource for many but do not "own" or "control" regional events and to think that would be ridiculous. I have a vision that people from any ministry or outside of the cabinet (such as political parties) could run an event without having to run through red tape and the ministry.

I highly encourage TSPers (regardless of position) to contribute to the growth of the community and make it flourish.

Thanks to everyone for questions Smile Good luck!
