Unification Complete
The long awaited unification of Harmakmis and Gordista has been finalized earlier today. Since the mid-1700s,
Harmakmis and Gordista have been engaged in a cold war. In three instances did the political climate heat up to full-blown war,
once in 1767, another time in 1893, and the most destructive in 1989. From the end of the last Harmakmian-Gordistani war, did things start to turn around. Finally, in June of this year, a peace treaty was signed, signalling an end to an era that lasted for 250 years. At the end of October, the first Harm-Gord Council summit was held in Harmakmis City. The Harm-Gord Council is a summit of political leaders from Harmakmis and Gordista, as well as representatives from various nations, all to oversee the unification and develop of peace in the two nations. After bitter debate, the summit ended a week and a half ago. Soon there after, a series of meetings discussed the plans for the future of the fueding countries. Just a few hours ago, on November 15, the plans had been finalized. The following decisions were made:
  • The countries of Harmakmis and Gordista would be unifed into a single entity, called the Confederation of Harmakmis and Gordista. The individual states will be autonomous and have their own heads of state, but will have be bound by the Constitution of the Confederation.
  • A legislature and a court will make laws and have a final say on issues.
  • Harmakmis will have no changes to its power structure as there have been no problems with it.
  • Gordista will be restructured into a democratic federation, with two provinces, a democratic socialist west, and a capitalist, pure democracy east.

Elections for the Harm-Gord Legislature and Court will begin next week. Elections for heads of state will occur January of next year
These monumental decisions Mark a new age in the region and the world, where two, totally different nations can unite into a single entity voluntarily.

Voting Tallies Are In

The first official votes for the Confederation are in. Voting began last week, 11/18, as somethings are still being worked out. All positions in both nations were being voted for, as well as the Harm-Gord Legislature and the Harm-Gord High Court. Many parties had delegates, leading to good diversity in the government. Here are some notable results:

-There are 40 positions (2 Senators per District; 20 Districts) in the unicameral Harmakmis legislature (Grand Assembly/Senate). The Harm-Gord Unitary Party (HGUP; Formally Harmakmis Unitary Party/HUP) won 27 seats (majority). The Harmakmis Conservative Party (HCP) won 9, with the Socialist Party for the Common Harmakmian (SPCH) winning 3 and the Rose Thorns/Independent getting 1.

-There are 20 positions in the Gordista Upper House (10 for each district). The Socialist Gordistani Party (SGP) won 9 seats of the western district, with the other seat going to the Olive Branch Party (OBP). The eastern district had 8 seats going to the OBP, with the other two split between the SGP and the Rose Thorns/Independent.

-There are currently 49 seats in the Gordista Lower House (approx. 1 legislator per 200k; pop. ~9.7 million). The eastern district has a higher population (~7 million), giving them 35 seats. The OBP got 27 seats, the HGUP got 3, the SGP got 3, and Rose Thorns/independent got 2. In the western district, the SGP won 9 seats, the OBP won 3, the HGUP won 3, and the Rose Thorns/independent won 2 as well.

-In Presidential election for Harmakmis, Tel Jonas (Independent/HGUP) has secured his fifth and final term, which will last to 2025 (this election was on an off year for Harmakmis so they extended this term). The 53 year-old is excited to be president again and strives to make these last 7 years the best yet. Jason Fauley (HGUP) is the new VP.

-In the Gordista Presidential election, Lilu Yenkins (OBP) is the new president. The 29 year-old may be young and new to politics, but the people have confidence in her. She will be able to serve for one 5 year term. Jem Katra II (Independent/OBP/HGUP) is now the new VP, giving her advice along the way.

-The newly formed Harm-Gord Legislature had 50 seats to fill (25 for Harmakmis and Gordista each). In total, 20 seats are claimed by the HGUP, 12 for the OBP, 6 for the SGP, 6 for the HCP, 4 for the SPCH, and 2 for the Rose Thorns.

-The thirteen person Harm-Gord High Court has been voted in.
Only twelve were contested publicly, while the last seat is decided by the council. Both nations get 6 members each. All members are staunchly neutral. The legislature has voted in 47 year-old, veteran Harmakmian judge, Ronnie Bauer.

These new leaders will bring Harmakmis and Gordista into a new era of peace.

Currently, main elections for all excutive branch officials and Harm-Gord Legislators will be every five years, starting 2020. The other elections will vary per region.

Every hopes that these new leaders will unite these two nations and bring them and the world into a golden era of peace.
