Emperor Xían was the first Emperor to ascend the throne since the fall of the socialist regime in 1964. With Emperor's Day coming up later this week, the Emperor has cited it was time for him to step down. After almost 55 years his abdication will mark the end of the Xía period.

The next era will be the Kaito era. With the naming of the new era, the Kandorese calendar will also mark it's first year in this era.

Tumultuous Xía Era

The Xía era has been a very moving and vivid era. After the ruins of the restoration war, Kandorith had to open up to a modern world on it's own. A strong start in this era marked the later success the nation would achieve, but this would not be without uneventful years.

To the outside world Emperor Xían will mostly be remembered for the long and dragging Kan-Meisho war, which lasted for over twelve years. Eventually the Emperor and the prime minister met with the royal house of Meisho and brokered a peace treaty which stopped the small scale war.

The next era looks towards a peaceful and prosperous start, as Emperor Xían has opened the nation to the outside world, international trade, tourism and the world wide political stage. His rule spanning over five decades now comes to an end marking the true start of a new Kandorith including a new imperial house.

Tenkyo, The abdication of the Emperor has caused turmoil in parliament and the senate today as lawmakers are reading through very old and non-modern laws on the next monarch to ascend the throne. The debate has been ongoing for ten hours and there is no signs of the debate ending any-time soon. Meanwhile both sides of the issue have convincing points and are not ready to make a compromise.

The Debate

The current laws on Emperor abdication and ascension stem from a document written in 1460, after the first Emperor in Kandorese history abdicated. Xian being the first modern day Emperor to call upon this law and has announced he is to step down from the throne. The problem with the current ascension lies with the Imperial Family not having a son or grandson who has come to age, which would make the eldest daughter the logical choice, or even the Emperor's granddaughter.

The 1460 document states 'All our heavenly leaders, the son of Yorukai-ga the moon goddess', but the rest of the document does not state if this is solely directed at the Emperor at the time of writing the document. This document has led to a debate on whether or not a female member of the Imperial Family is allowed to ascend the throne. Many MP's have already decided there is no reason a female member can not ascend the throne, but for this to happen the law must be either abolished or rewritten. A second group does not oppose to an Empress, but does oppose either rewriting or abolishing the law for both monetary and historical reasons. The final and third group which split the government oppose the ascension of a woman to the throne as they hold the old law as an integral and vital part of the government, official religion and traditions.

The Outcome

Eventually the outcome will be marking a new era in Kandorese history, with the first official ascension of a member of the Imperial Family to the throne since the late 1800's. The debate also sparked numerous of comments and debates on social media. The largest topic on JIZA(地座) already has ten million shares and likes, where people in large numbers are calling for the politicians to disregard the old law and embrace the modernized world around us.

Another user said 'It is beyond devastating to see the current politics, who promised us a modern way of life and a new modern Kandorith dabbling in a law which is from another era and is best left behind. The law was written in a time where assassinations, internal warfare and inhuman practices were the order of the day. It is time to become a fully modernized empire and embrace the idea of having an Empress. Kandorith now has the chance to show the world what we truly stand for: Unity, respect and solidarity.'

As the final vote closes, the nation awaits the outcome in possible, for the Kandorese, the most important vote of the new government.

Transcript Announcement Ministry of Imperial Affairs

Countrymen, today marks maybe the most important date in our recent history.
At around 03:00 hours this morning the Imperial Mandate has reached an agreement on a series of news laws, effectively on direct order, marking a new era for Kandorith and a new era for our calendar.

Prime Minister Tou Shunjian has handed in the new laws to the Imperial Administration and they were ratified immediately by the transitional regency. The law allows the former members of the Imperial family to ascend the throne successfully and gain the title of Emperor of Kandorith, as it was for over thousand years until the abrupt and painful ending to the Akiharu era.

Futhermore Prime Minister Tou Shunjian has also ratified laws, allowing female members of the Imperial family to ascend to the throne if they are either the only successor or the most suitable successor of the current Emperor.

Prime Minister Tou Shunjian

The debate over the succession of the throne and ending the transitional period from the old unlawful federation to our own full democracy and constitution lasted for three days and twenty six hours, making it the longest deadlock in recent history of Kandorith.

Tou Shunjian has apologized over his failure to reach an agreement within two days as he promised and has handed in his resignation to parliament and the Imperial Administration.
Making way for a suitable successor of the Liberal Democratic Party. If indeed the Prime Minister was at fault for elongating the talks and discussions regarding the multiple issues.Per decree of the ministries and the high priests of Imakazawa and Ginza there will be a 10 day holiday period staring 10 March, the date of the coronation of the new monarch.
This date will also become the new state holiday in honour of the reinstatement of the official Imperial House of the Kandorese nation.

Keito Era

After 54 years and 278 days, the transitional period has finally ended. From this day onward the nation of Kandorith can call itself the Great Empire of Kandorith again as full constitutional power will be reinstated to the Imperial House as of today.

Which means today marks year one of the Kaito Era under Her Imperial Majesty, The Empress, Masumi.
