Where Dragons Rule

"It would be an honor for the Serre's Pride to be the first merchants to trade with the Drakari Celestial Imperium." Raran smiled, his tail twitching contentedly. "I can't tell you when the Empyre would reach out for contact, as I do not know."

"Excellent! I shall begin transferring all relevant data to your vessel. I look forward to the day our states formally interact with one another."

"Sounds good. May your travels be safe, my friend..."

Raran disconnected his line of communications with the Drakari ship as soon as they finished transferring the relevant data, and continued to his destination in the Wasperian system. He forwarded it all to the Empyre's Ministry of Internal contacts, who sent it to the Empyre's Prime Minister, who sent it off to the Empress herself. Debate on what to do regarding the information was intense within the Empyre, and intense when opened up for public debate. The Dahxi and Human populations were massively overjoyed to recieve the news, while Shuinau and Kriko populations were relatively opposed. However, months after the final meet, the Empyre created a new ministry: the Ministry of Drakari Communications, with Growan Hartz, a notable Dahxi scientist who studied various species, intelligent and not, as the Minister. Very quickly, Growan send a communication to the Drakari Empire, hoping to get into contact with someone.

To whom this may concern:

A few short lunar cycles ago, those of your empire had come into contact with one of our merchant fleets. I talk to you today to see if you are willing to discuss relations between the Empyre and your Empire.

Best regards,

Minister Growan Hartz
Minister of Drakari Communications

Imperial Palace

For the Young Emperor, addressing matters of state the past few months had become distinctly more complicated, for better or for worse.

Between relatively recent contact with the Treecuu Star Empire and the Stoinian Star Kingdom, to keeping a watchful eye on their Ryccian neighbors, and even occasional tensions between the colonies, the Senate and the Emperor certainly had their hands full of late.

Such as it was when Cassian, his family's longtime Chamberlain and his personal aide, approached him as he descended from his throne after a productive morning of holding court.  The grey-scaled statesman smiled at his young friend before bowing reverently to him.  "Your Imperial Majesty, might I have a moment of your time?"

"Cassian, we've been over this many times already," Julianus chuckled softly as he motioned for the older Drakari to rise, "you needn't be so formal.  You're practically family."

"Forgive me, my Empe- Julianus," Cassian snickered as he hastily corrected himself.  "You know how it is.  'Tis quite difficult to break a force of habit, but that is not why I wish to talk."

"Oh?  What is on your mind, old friend?"  The crimson behemoth raised a craggy brow as he came to a halt near the base of the throne, his robes shifting in the light of the chamber.

"We have received a message from an interstellar power to the galactic west.  The Empyre Finixis, they call themselves.  Evidently, there was an impromptu First Contact after one of their merchant ships inadvertently crossed paths with a cruiser from the Corps of Exploration."

"Hmm... interesting.  Let's hear it then."

Cassian nodded as he began the playback.  After a few moments of listening, rewinding, and listening again, as well as watching the transcript of Captain Oranon's conversation with the crew of the Serre's Light, Julianus smiled.

"It seems our day just got a little more interesting, Cassian.  Prepare a response to invite one of their officials here to the Throneworld.  Perhaps we may have found a missing relative in these... Dahxi."

A few hours later, after countless rewrites and painstaking proofreading, a holo-recording of the Emperor would be sent alongside it's transcript to the Minister from the message.

To our newly discovered companions:

It is most fortuitous that our paths cross across the unending void of space, friend.  As such, I am eager to begin opening relations between our two mighty states in the mutual interest of prosperity and friendship.  I await your emissaries with open arms and a full table.

With the First King's blessing,

Julianus VII
Emperor of the Drakari Celestial Imperium

The Empress paced back and forth anxiously, accompanied by the newly-appointed Minister Growan, who merely watched curiously.

"Well, how does one respond to this? It's a nice gesture, we HAVE to prove that the Empyre is better!"

"Alari, I would beg you to relax and allow me to handle this. The species is very similar to us Dahxi. This opportunity is unparalleled."

"I wish to meet them myself. And perhaps Leaf? Kriko are very talented diolomats, provided you don't eat them."

"Yes, your highness."

Alari began attempting to write with the Dahxi's pen, suprising Growan with her strength. Despite clocking in at a measly 22cm, she managed go write semi-legibly.
To Julianus VII, Emperor of the Drakari Celestial Imperium,

Along with my Minister, who has spoken to you before, I wish to speak to you and begin discussing the diplomatic things.

Thanks,
Empress Alari of Empyre Finixis

It would not be long before a response was transmitted back.  A scanned copy of a handwritten note written in the runic language of the Drakari, with a translation thankfully provided in the datapack.

To Her Majesty Empress Alari of the Empyre Finixis,

You honor my House and my people with this news.  I will see to it that your arrival is prepared for, though I will require data on you and your entourage in order to prepare adequate quarters for you in my palace.

With the First King's blessing,
Julianus VII

Alari quickly rushed to compile data on her species and that of the Dahxi and Kriko, as well as short profiles on herself, Growan, and Leaf. Very quickly she sent the data file to the Drakari. Once she was done, she flew up to her favorite perch in her palace, and began preening her feathers in preparation for the visit.

Growan made all the physical preparations for the visit by preparing numerous things, and a bottle of Kiltargan, for safe measure.

To say that the palace was a flurry of activity would be to put it at a level of modesty that would have bordered on insulting to some.  Aides and servants all but sprinted from one chamber to the next, from one elevator to the next, all to ensure that the dignitaries would be given the finest taste of Drakari hospitality.

Cassian, ever the dutiful chamberlain and viceroy, gladly oversaw preparations.  Meal preparations, selection and shipment of the finest wines on the planet, appropriately sized sleeping quarters... none were beyond his skill.

"Lord Chamberlain," a Human aide called out as they offered the grey-scaled statesman a datapad, "his Imperial Majesty requests your presence at your earliest opportunity."

Cassian gently accepted the datapad, going over its contents as his gold-rimmed eyepiece quickly collated and filed it away before looking up at the balcony above.  Lo and behold, Julianus was there, watching the commotion with a soft smile.

"I see... thank you, Master Jeffries.  I greatly appreciate this news.  Should anything unusual come up, alert me or the Emperor immediately."  He smiled at the man as he returned the 'pad to him, with the aide smiling in return before quickly returning to his earlier task.  Cassian would turn away towards the nearest stairwell with a gentle swish of his tail to join his liege above.

"Your Ma- Julianus," he hastily corrected himself, "you wished to see me?"

"Yes.  I thought I'd let you know that all preparations regarding security details for our guests and all landing procedures have been taken care of personally.  I figured you could use some respite."

"Ah, good, good! I take it you have already chosen which spaceport for them?"

"Yes.  Ajakis Memorial Spaceport, dignitary's hangarbay to be precise.  I intend to welcome them personally once they arrive within the system.  We have a few days, though.  You and the others should take time to relax while you can.  Matters of state can be overwhelming even for the most well-prepared individual."

"Astutely put, Your Majesty.  The wisdom of your predecessors shines through."  The Chamberlain gave the younger Drakari a proud smile, reaching up to pat his Emperor on the shoulder.  "That said... I will admit to growing all the more curious about this Empyre Finixis.  This meeting should prove enlightening, if anything else."

The Dargana's Hope cruised effortlessly through the pitch-black space.  Growan relaxed among the crew members of the ship, sharing stories and laughs over a cheap human-made beverage.  His companions laughed as a human told of their exploits in minor world Searan, which was known to be a savage world full of enormous insectoids and highly poisonous plants.  The human rolled up his pant leg, revealing his fully-functional prosthetic leg.  The aliens around him gasped at the human ability to survive loss of limb, especially the smaller avianoids.

Alari herself sat at the cockpit, where the Dahxi pilot allowed her to rest on his horns, on the condition that she kept her crest and tail feathers out of his face.

Leaf themselves decided to relax among the other Kriko, warmly sharing memories via short electrical impulses through their intertwined roots.  It was a common practice for the Kriko to do, seeing as they were unable to speak as the Dahxi, Fengnau, Shuinau, and humans are able to.  Though, they were photosensitive, and could "hear" just as well as any other species.  Their way of doing so seemed different, and those unfamiliar with the species would quickly mistake them for any other kind of nonsentient plant.

"Empress, I wish to rouse you from your sleep to inform you that we are entering wormspace in T-5 minutes.  I would advise that you and the other avianoids lock yourselves down."  The captain of the ship gently shook his head, rousing the Empress from her sleep.  Alari yawned, stretching her feathers out.

"Thanks for telling me, cap."

"It's my pleasure."  The captain chuckled, maneuvering his tail to push a button on the ship, warning the others on board to buckle down.

"Next stop, the Wasperian System."

The ship will refuel at the Wasperian system, then commence another warp into the Drakari system.

Several days later
Ladon System
Pax Dracon
Drakari Celestial Imperium

When word had reached the capital of the Empyre Finixis' ship being en route, final preparations were quickly carried out to ensure their arrival went as smoothly as possible.  The Throne Fleet and the orbital defense grid were arranged into rigid formation facing the estimated arrival point to greet the envoy's vessel, eager to welcome them to the throneworld.

"Captain," a voice called out from one of the comm stations aboard the royal flagship, "we have just received word that the Emperor and his escort have arrived at Ajakis Memorial Spaceport."

"Very good.  And our guests?  Any sign of them?"

"Not ye- wait... picking up comm traffic from system scans... spacial anomaly forming five-hundred thousand kilometers ahead.  Bearing 002-mark-203.  Signal is similar to that encountered by the Revealing Light."

"Opening a hailing frequency the moment the ship appears."  The captain smiled faintly as they stepped on to the holotank in front of their seat, eager to establish communications.
