First Councillors leaders debate

After having taken a small break for Gloria Anserisa Day celebrating the writing of our second national anthem, Councillors leaders took the stage to defend their respective parties positions with Magnuso Iousium, Albo Christianum and Claudio Ménouarium debating for the first time in this election on select issues.

Moderated by Anserisan journalist, Mélania Chauvum, the debate saw the Councillors questioned on one theme, international affairs.

Here is a transcript of the debate :

Mélaniua Chauvum
"Hello everyone, my name is Mélania Chauvum and I will be moderator for this debate with our three leaders present today who are seeking your vote in the upcoming election to lead your new Council of Regions, let me present them, we have the incumbent leader Magnuso Iousium for the Socialist Union, Albo Christianum for the Republican Alliance and Claudio Ménouarium for the Conservative Coalition, welcome all to this debate. Let's start with opening statements, by random selection, Claudio Ménouarium, you are first today."

Claudio Ménouarium
"Thank you. Fellow Anserisans, I speak to you today not as one of the leaders of the Conservative Coalition, not even as a former Vice-Presidential candidate, but as a simple citizen of our great nation. Anserisa is facing a lot of challenges, and I believe it is time we give a strong direction to our country, a direction that has a plan. Especially a plan that respects the regions, that is not controlled from an establishment located in one or two cities, deciding that what is best for citizens of cities is good for everyday workers in the regions. With the Conservatives, we'd give the power back to the regions."

Mélania Chauvum
"Thank you Mister Ménouarium, Magnuso Iousium, you are next."

Magnus Iousium
"Thank you. To all the Anserisan who are joining today into listening this debate, good evening. You have given us a mandate, in 2014, to lead this wonderful nation we have the privilege of calling home. And so far, we have delivered on our promise. Let us continue our work. That is all we want to do for Anserisan, continuing the wonderful work we have started in 2014 that is still unfinished and without our help, could remain unfinished and that is why we seek your support on June 1st."

Mélania Chauvum
"Thank you Mister Iousium, Albo Christianum, you are our last speaker."

Albo Christianum
"Thank you Madam. Anserisan, you know our political party. It is the party of the great Presidents, of the great administrations, of our great nation. Forged in battle against tyranny, the Republican Alliance as always worked for the Anserisan, and with this party we have become the great Republic we know today. Based on the heritage of the greats like Régulum, Nervum, Romanum, people you know on our national currency. And together with this heritage, we can start to build a Victorious Republic."

Mélania Chauvum
"Very well, thank you to all leaders. We will begin with our first theme of the debate, international affairs. With the opening of our nation to the world, only one matter remains untouched, the treaties and our sovereignty. What will your political party work to ensure treaties are signed in a matter that they respect the sovereignty of our country ? Mister Iousium, you have been selected to go first."

Magnus Iousium
"Thank you. That is a very important question. My political party, the Socialist Union has been working on the international affairs long before coming into power in 2014. We have established the Department of External Affairs and the South Pacific with the ACR-2014-02, the Anserisan Department of External Affairs and the South Pacific Act which was opposed by the Conservative Coalition I might add. And this new Department helped with the establishment of our international policy. Before our election in 2014, nobody knew of Anserisa in the South Pacific, at least not in terms of international affairs. What will we do if reelected, we'll continue the work we have started in 2014 that has culminated today with a World Forum representation, an international presence, working relations with our neighbours, etc. Let's continue the work."

Mélania Chauvum
"Mister Christianum, you are next."

Albo Christianum
"Thank you. What has been said by Councillor Iousium is true, before the Socialist Union there was not a big representation of Anserisa in the South Pacific. But it does not mean that this is the party that we should put in charge of the international representation of the nation. The Republican Alliance has asked many times to slow down the process of the Open Arms Initiative which was met with a lot of resistance by the Socialist Union who simply wants to go full steam ahead with this initiative without thinking of the consequences it could have on our sovereignty with the adoption of the Constitution of the International Criminal Court which sets a precedent on the infringement of the sovereign rights of nations, for which the Anserisan government voted yes, without a grand consultation of the Council.

Mélania Chauvum
"Mister Ménouarium, you are our last speaker."

Claudio Ménouarium
"Thank you for such a wonderful question. Our political party, the Conservative Coalition has been against this opening since the beginning. Not because we don't want to open up to the world as some people would like you to believe, but because we know that the way taken by the Socialists is going too fast. You can't undo years of closing by removing all barriers, it will not work. Especially for our regions which are producing lots of local products which have been used in Anserisa for centuries now and could easily be replaced tomorrow by foreign products and kill our local farms and businesses established in our wonderful countryside. What will happen then, what will the Socialist Union do after that ? Nothing, it will be impossible to go back, so instead of waiting for this day to happen, why not let a political party with a regional plan, take the lead and prevent this catastrophic scenario to go forth."

Mélania Chauvum
"We will now have a few minutes for debate. I see you want to speak, Mister Iousium."

Magnuso Iousium
"Yes, I'd like to respond to the sophism presented by former Vice-Presidential candidate, Mister Ménouarium. The slippery slope described by the Conservative candidate is at most ludicrous and totally not going to happen, we have planned with the Open Arms Initiative mechanisms which demands an approval by two-thirds of the Congress for all first-time treaties than a majority vote for all modified treaties or prolonged treaties as long as the modifications where not substantial and with these measures we can guarantee that it will not be possible to destroy our regions, unless of course if the Conservatives are voting for it."

Claudio Ménouarium
"And what happens if you control more than two-thirds of the Congress ? Who is going to stop you then, that is why we need a strong opposition in the Council of Regions, to prevent this two-thirds majority going to a political party like the Socialist Union."

Albo Christianum
"I have to agree for once with my opponent, although I believe that the Republican Alliance is the political party that has the best chance at winning against the Socialist Union and it's not the Conservatives that will take the power tomorrow, compared to our party which has a chance, with the support of you, the Anserisans, to take the power and be the true guardians of our sovereignty which we had to fight to have back in our own nation and now we have to fight to preserve it on the international stage and believe me, we Republicans know how to fight.

Mélania Chauvum
"Thank you all, this was our last intervention on the question. We will be taking the closing statements, by random draw, Mister Christianum, you are first.

Albo Christianum
"Anserisan, we are going to be facing an important choice on June 1st. Either to vote for a political party which is so eager to plant themselves in the history books that they are going too fast. Opening our borders and voting against the sovereignty of the nations as if they were trying to prove a point. On the other side, a political party that is not going to be able to take the power and at best, will allow the Socialist Union to continue their work to bring Anserisa down. The only choice you are effectively facing is to vote for the Republican Alliance, a party you know got the work done in the past and will bring our glorious republic to its previous glory."

Mélania Chauvum
"Thank you Mister Christianum, Mister Iousium, you are next."

Magnuso Iousium
"Thank you for this wonderful debate. I hope you have had the opportunity to learn more about the platforms of all three political parties. Of a party that is against any change, even when it benefits the Anserisan population, such as the Open Arms Initiative, and that is willing to bend the reality to depict your government in a bad light. Of a party that can only rely on its heritage and history for it has nothing to present but the past. And of course, a political party you chose, to get the work done and that is asking your support to help accomplish its goals and make Anserisa the better world. Thank you and Gloria Anserisa."

Mélania Chauvum
"Thank you Mister Iousium, Mister Ménouarium, as our last speaker, your statement."

Claudio Ménouarium
"Thank you Madam Chauvum. My dear Anserisan. Once again you are invited to speak your mind on June 1st and elect your Councillors and your Representatives, and once again you have the chance to change the course of history, before it's too late. The loose cannons cannot continue to serve in the Congress and a strong Conservative Coalition is the first step toward slowing down the bad course on which the Anserisan boat is sailing and to change this course toward the real beautiful future I see for our nation. The regions knows it and have supported our party last time, I simply ask people to meet with the people in the regions and talk with them and then you'll see why they vote for the Conservative Coalition. Thank you and have a good night everyone."

Mélania Chauvum
"Thank you leaders for this wonderful debate that will surely help the Anserisan population to make up their minds. Have a good one everyone."

Socialist Union promises to bring the AEA back to glory

In a press conference held yesterday in Vivama, near the Christiano-Aberdium Launching Center, the Socialist Union announced that they would revive heavy funding for the AEA especially by selling parts of the project to private interests, mostly payload space for the new space laboratory intended to be launched in the first year after the election.

The Socialist Union billed their project to be worth about 1 or 2 billions which could be financed "in part" by the private sector.

This press conference was also part of a larger program unveiled by the party titled The Anserisan Update Initiative which is also analyzing the potential to upgrade parts of the Anserisan administration, with funding for the AEA being the major one, but also the Anserisan Armed Forces which would see a major update of its fleet.

The Conservative Coalition and the Republican Alliance had no events organized in the previous years, except for the local campaigns.

Second start of the campaign, no surprise candidates in the end

With 15 May behind, political parties have sent their official candidates lists, especially for the Councillors elections and except for those already mentioned previously in our articles, no other political parties have come up with surprise candidates in the end.

The Republican Alliance has given a press conference, again with the presence of Maria-Marcella Régulum, candidate in the Cardellina electoral district, announcing that an elected RA would be adding more funding to the University of Anserisa, especially for the extension of the campus in Brantavilla, in the newer districts of the capital.

The Conservative Coalition was campaigning in Vexilla to announce their intention to privatize the harbour of Vexilla if elected, a port that, according to the leaders of the CC, "has been neglected compared to the port of Concordia and should receive at least a revival by being owned by the private sector, like to port of Concordia.

ALA National Debate, a brief report

On 20 May, the ALA (Administracio do Locuso Anserisano) organized the national debate which faced the candidates of the three major parties plus independent candidate, Isidoro Percevum, a self-proclaimed libertarian who gained enough traction in the national election to be invited.

After the opening statements, the first part of the debate featured the theme of education. All the candidates promised more funding, especially for the University of Anserisa, except for Percevum which vowed to end public funding to schools and allow them to charge "what they need for what they want to offer". The Republican Alliance came back with their proposal to build a new campus in Brantavilla, this time promising 450 millions aureusos for the construction only.

The second theme was on the environment, with most candidates agreeing to do more, even the independent candidate, although on the means to achieve goals, such as reduction of the greenhouse gases emissions, candidates were divided with the Socialist Union proposing to fund green energy and electrification of all the public transit buses with around 2 billion aureusos in the upcoming mandate, with the Republican Alliance to fund a nuclear plant on the island of Rubecula for supplying the high demands coming from the island, the Conservative Coalition proposed to lower the taxes of the people who would buy electric cars and companies who would shift from polluting energies to clean ones and the independent who promised to lower the taxes in general, permitting people to buy the electric cars afterward.

The third theme was on the immigration policy, which was a new feature in this debate. The Socialist Union thanked its Open Arms Initiative for this accomplishment to open the borders and get more immigrants into Anserisa to allow the nation to grow even more, a shared view with the Republican Alliance that still wanted to get immigrants with high-end diplomas to have a greater benefit to the nation. The Conservative Coalition not only wanted a lower number of immigrants in the country but also people from select developed nations, mostly World Forum members. Percevum was the only candidate against all forms of immigration "For Anserisa is a paradise nation, our paradise nation, not anyone else".

Finally, the theme of the economy concluded this debate with Romana Madisum, leader of the Socialist Union coming to the front with the already planned investments, especially the billions planned in public infrastructure, mostly in public transit which would create jobs and benefit the economy as a whole. Albo Christianum of the Republican Alliance brought forward the plan of his party to create an public investment fund that would help private projects become reality, especially the new luxury resort in Vexilla. Formoso Gochium, the Conservative Coalition leader went even further with the promise to privatize some public enterprises, and to lower the taxes of the major enterprises, trying to relocate some big companies to Anserisa. Isidoro Percevum promised to put the taxes for private companies "near to zero" and the privatization of a lot of governmental agencies to alleviate the burden of the public allowing them to "buy what they've always wanted".

This electoral debate was the last one of the campaign, the next chance the candidates will have to make their point is going to be on 30 May on Democratic Equality Day when all political parties are allowed an equal amount of space to promote their political party which will be published here in Lo Diurno Anserisano

Isidoro Percevum suspends his campaign over fraud allegations

Independent candidate suspended his campaign following allegations that he used his private fortune to fund his political campaign which is in violation of the Anserisan Electoral Act, which was leaked by the ALA reporters on the evening news.

Percevum defended himself in a press conference :

I have done nothing wrong, these allegations are simply ludicrous and are probably a scam invented by the Conservative Coalition to undermine my chances of winning against their mediocre candidate. Nothing was standing against my victory in the general election and they had to invent such a fake scandal, it is so pathetic.

-Isidoro Percevum, independent candidate

The Conservative Coalition rejected the accusations made by Percevum, saying that "anyone with a brain would've been able to come to this conclusion and don't need the help of the Conservatives to know that there was fraud in the candidate's campaign".

The Office of the National and Local Elections has announced that an official investigation into the allegations has been opened.

The Socialist Union and the Republican Alliance decided to refrain from commenting on the allegations.

Isidoro Percevum's candidacy officially revoked over electoral fraud

The Anserisan Electoral Investigations Administration has released its official report yesterday confirming that independent candidate Isidoro Percevum has committed electoral fraud by using his private fortune to fund his political campaign, under clear violation of the Anserisan Electoral Act. The Office of the National and Local Elections confirmed that the investigation was ongoing and didn't take long to confirm that the allegations were indeed true.

Percevum as yet to submit an official statement.

The Socialist Union and the Republican Alliance both issued statements condemning the actions made by the independent candidate and happy that the Anserisan Electoral Investigations Administration was able to shed the light on the fraud.

The Conservative Coalition also included in their statement condemning the accusations made by Percevum earlier this week that the Coalition was behind the allegations.

Special Edition: Democratic Equality Day

In conformation with the Anserisan Electoral Act1 on 30th May, on what is called Democratic Equality Day « All media must offer equal space for all represented political parties without any modification on the submitted text. »

Also, all media are prevented from reporting on candidates and political parties from today until election day on 1st June, where only the outcome of the elections can be reported.

The following represents the views of the mentioned political parties and not the views of Lo Diurno Anserisano. The following order of presentation corresponds to the alphabetical order of the political parties as registered to the Anserisan Electoral Organization Administration in Anserisan. Each political party was given the chance to submit a text of a maximum of 200 words, with no minimum limit.

Republican Alliance
On 1st June, you will face a choice. You can continue policies that are not going anywhere or step back to a time where all the progress that we have made through the ages is gone. But you will also have one more option, a choice to go and follow a path you know, the path of the Republican Alliance. Our long republican history in Anserisa has given us one of the best places to live in the world, and we can go back to having the best place to live in the world. Of course, we can decide to live in fantasy and chose again to continue with some utopical views of the society and establish unrealistic policies and by not thinking about the consequences of our choices. At the Alliance, we believe this would be a mistake. On 1st June, you will have an important choice to make, and we think that the best choice is a vote for the Republican Alliance, a vote for a victorious republic.

Conservative Coalition
Imagine this scenario, you are in a line at the grocery store, not inside but outside, you are waiting for your daily ration because we have a shortage of food. Why is that you may ask? Well, because of the social policies we have been doing for many years have finally turned their backs on our society and our economical system has failed. Anserisa is bankrupt. Do you want to live in this scenario? We do not want that either. So that is why we believe that a vote for the Conservative Coalition on 1st June is the only logical and financially sane option in this upcoming general election. We must help our agricultural sector, we must help our local economy, our regional economy. Every major political party has been going around from downtown to downtown avoiding ever stepping foot in the rural places of our great nation. It’s a shame. With the Coalition, you can be assured that the power of the regions, the force of the regions is going to be put on full display in the Congress. So, you must send the most members to defend your interests. Vote Conservative Coalition.

Socialist Union
Fellow Anserisans, we are once again, as a nation, called to vote. A great staple of our democratic system and this election, you have the choice to change the entirety of the Congress. We believe it is then time to send even more Socialists to the Congress so we can continue the work we have started for many years now. To bring our society to the level of well-being we have today. A well-being we intend to grow even further if we receive the mandate, your mandate to do so. Our only goal, since the inception of our political party was to break from the traditions that had left our political landscape sterile and to improve the lives of the people, we saw suffering just next door. That is at the core of the values of each and every candidate we have in this election and this great team that has been working for you these last years is going to work even harder, but it needs help, we need a strong Congress, with both the Council and the Convention filled with the Socialist Union. Let’s continue the work Anserisa!

Lo Diurno Anserisano will be back on the morning of 2nd June with a breakdown of the results.

1 Modifications to the Anserisan Electoral Act adopted in 1995.

The Socialist Union keeps the Congress, gets 2 more seats.

In what was a suspenseful electoral night, the Socialist Union, even trailing at some point to the Republican Alliance, won the General Election, adding two more seats, one from the Conservatives and one from the Republicans. The biggest upset was the victory over Republican incumbent, Spurio Mitchum in the Nova Brantavilla district.

Women are also the great winners with 17 elected compared to 18 men, meaning for the first time the National Convention is considered to be at parity for the first time in its history, thanks to the victories of candidates such as Maria-Marcella Régulum, star candidate for the Republican Alliance in the Cardellina district, the victory of Lorena Abreum in the Gubernata district and the victory of Cassandra Vasconcelum in the Nova Brantavilla district.

In the Council of Regions, there has been no changes in the number of seats allocated to each parties, but still new faces are making their way for the first time as Councillors, such as Claudio Ménouarium, former Vice-Presidential candidate for the Conservative Coalition, Heloisa Ésenhorium for the Socialist Union in Rubecula and Zéphyrino Massium for the Conservative Coalition in Haliétusa.

Here is the breakdown of the General Election :

Council of Regions
Socialist Union : 8 | +0
Republican Alliance : 4 | +0
Conservative Coalition : 3 | +0

National Convention
Socialist Union : 22 | +2
Republican Alliance : 10 | +0
Conservative Coalition : 3 | -2

Congress Inauguration : Formoso Gochium resigns as leader of the Conservative Coalition

Yesterday in the afternoon, in the presence of Hormisdaso Mortium, Principal Supreme Judge of Anserisa, members of the Congress were inaugurated at the National Convention Building in downtown Brantavilla.

Romana Madisum as once again been sworn in as First Congressist of Anserisa and General Representative while Magnuso Iousium as been re-conducted as Principal Councillor.

Roméo Quensum as been re-conducted as Speaker of the Council while Alicia Castellum as been elected as Chair of the Convention replacing Diaduméniano Majum, former Representative for Ortalisa. They have also been inaugurated as the Congressional Co-Presidents.

The first sitting of the Congress, following the inauguration ceremony, was required by the Constitution, to proceed with the vote for the President of Anserisa and the mandate of President Columbo Septimum was not revoked without any surprise.

The Congress will have a lot of works for the next 6 years, with 2 ordinary elections during the 6 years mandate of the Councillors, especially since the 2026 election is considered to be a Super Election when the mandates of the President, the Congress and the Supreme Judges are all coming to an end on the same year.

On another note, conservative leader Formoso Gochium announced that he will be stepping down from the leadership and announced the Claudio Ménouarium will be the de facto leader of both groups until a successor is nominated for the National Convention, in the mean time Formoso Gochium will still be the appointed leader in the National Convention for the debates.
