[IC] Prime Minister's GID-20 Speech to the Nation
#1

Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls and all associated genders, the young and the old. We are all living in strange times and coping with a situation which the country has never witnessed the like of before. It is my fault that is has spread so rapidly so quickly. I acknowledge that. I also, however, acknowledge the fact that the procedures the Government and I have put in place are working and we are way past the peak now so things will only continue to improve from hereon-in.

As a nation, since our beginning in 1850, we have seen many times and trials go past. We have witnessed, as a nation, many challenges to reality as we know it but we have pulled through as a nation, worked together, followed the advice of the Government and the President and got back to normal. In 1899, we witnessed, as a nation, the outbreak of the Flu Pandemic which lasted 9 years, lockdown continued for 5 of those years before a vaccine was discovered and we were able to remove restrictions completely by 1908. In 1944, we had the Malaria outbreak which lasted 55 years, lockdown continued for 27 years before a vaccine was discovered and we were able to remove restrictions by 1999. On 20 March, our current GID-20 pandemic broke out and we are dealing well with the virus. We have never seen a virus spread so quickly but, I believe, we will never see a virus sent on it's way so quickly.

When the Flu Pandemic of 1899 broke out, the Government were faced with a unique challenge, the Government of our Republic had never dealt with a national pandemic before. Given the times, the Government worked hard to put plans in place to keep us safe and well and they did so and given the times, a vaccine was found very quickly. Likewise, the Government of 1944 and all the following Governments elected during the Malaria Pandemic kept the virus under wraps and kept us updated on the situation and how to stay safe. We need you to trust us to get you through the current pandemic. We, as a Government, trust you to trust us. Please do continue to observe the restrictions put in place, they are there for a reason, follow the advice of our Health Service, if you have any queries, please do call any of the helplines provided. If you do not have access to shelter, please do make your way to the nearest shelter and stay there until lockdown is lifted. I'm sorry to say this but this is the last warning. If restrictions can't be kept, the Police will have special powers of arrest either granted by myself or the President, so please do observe the restrictions.

To those who are working on our behalf to keep us all safe and updated, fed and so on, keep up the good work, the entire nation are behind you and we know times are stressful now, please don't hesitate, if you're experiencing dark times, to call a helpline provided, they are there for you.

To our friends abroad, we are not currently aware of how many people may have travelled abroad during the couple of hours a month ago that lockdown was mistakenly lifted. We currently hope this number is very small and that they will be tested for the virus wherever they are currently staying as I am aware they can't get back into the country. I hope you will stand with us in tackling this virus and containing the spread. If you have any questions in relation to any of our citizens trapped abroad, please do call Government Buildings and I will try my best to get as many calls re-directed to me and my colleagues, the Vice-Prime Ministers of Qaweritoyu, as I can.

Finally, we pulled through in the past and we will pull through again. Keeping fighting and keep up the good work. We're rooting for you but we need you rooting for us too. Thank you and goodnight.
